Welcome to DMDewar.com
Welcome to my soapbox, well maybe, but not so much. I'm not real preachy I just use this website pretty much for whatever I feel like and have for the last five years. It's kind of like my notebook that I happen to share. Basically I cover anything of interest to me which is mostly tech toys, MMA, alternative music, golf, and occasionally stuff that is going on with me.
A little about me? Well my favorite movies are Inside Man, The Usual Suspects, Training Day... My favorite tv shows are Dexter, and Californication. I am a sports junkie following the Dodgers and Lakers religiously and root for the Chargers by default since we dont have a pro football team. Basically any team from the Los Angeles area. I'm been married 16 years and have two daughters 15 and 13! Enough about me though!
Enjoy the site!
Thanks again!

RIP Captain Phil
I had a real tough time last night after watching the Captain Phil episodes last night. It hit close to home with my father passing in June. So I stayed up late and watched more depressing Captain Phil episodes. The guy was an amazing character and along with Sig and Edgar from the Northwestern was one of the bigger characters on the show that has been so successful. His kids look ready to fill the void as they have essentially frown into fishermen on the show and look to continue the family legacy, I hope.

Lebron chooses Miami
So we finally have the "Decision". Lebron is joining Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosch in Miami hoping to pry the championship trophy from my beloved Lakers. I have to admit that this whole Lebron media circus hasn't sat well with me. I have grown tired of this whole look at me circus. Im looking forward to the new super team in the East but I have to admit the Celtics have been quietly adding superstars to their roster having signed Jermain Oneal and Shaquille Oneal. Sure Miami has the three but there is still Orlando who is very strong and Chicago which has added some strength with Carlos Boozer. The one thing I have noticed is the shift in power from the West to the East. I have to believe the Lakers will cruise to the finals next year with Oklahoma City looking like a possible 2 seed after the tough time they gave the Lakers last year. And as for the possible super team they might face in the finals, well the Lakers had their own experience with a super team that didn't go so well...

HTC EVO
Well I have been horrible about updating and honestly wonder about keeping my blog anymore but I have put such time into it over the years I hate to give it up! I bought the new HTC EVO and have to say I am thrilled with it so far. I don't even have 4g here yet. The phone performs well even though I could use a little better battery life to make it through the day. I figured I would have a tough time liking another phone after my iphone but so far I'm not feeling any great loss with the evo.as far as applications I recommend anyone who has android download swype. It's a great text entry method whereyou slide your finger over the screen. You may have seen it on tv for a samsung commercial for the world record texting speed. It its surprisingly accurate too! I am really enjoying the tool as it makes any phone more usable.

Nike+ heart rate monitor
Not that its any more likely to get me to run but the Nike+ heart rate monitor is rumored to be coming out on 6/1/10. Now in all fairness the Nike+ system is the only thing that has gotten me out and running consistently in quite some time. I like the system and the motivation it provides.

Kin
So I was perusing the web yeterday when I cam across the Kin. Kin offers two phones the Kin One and the Kin Two. The one looks like it was designed with women in mind as it reminds me of a compact mirror size form. The Two is a typical touch screen phone with a physical keyboard that slides underneath. The underlying differnce of these phones is their huge social network integration and the fact they run on a windows platform which may be hinting at what will be coming in Windows Mobile 7. Initial reviews are not super great as the phone doesn't quite live up to expectations. It does well with the social networks and has a nice camera but doesn't run as well as a phone and lacks strong support for third part email like yahoo and google. Most of the excitement seems to be stemming from the fact these phones are a hint of whats to come. I got to take a look at them yesterday as I was picking up some phones at the local Verizon store and they aren't half bad.

MLS Expansion
So the MLS finally announced that they are going to Montreal in 2012 after opening up Vancouver and Portland in 2011 bringing the total number of teams to 19. Montreal was a logical choice but seeing as how all premier leagues have 20 teams it makes sense that there is one last expansion team in the MLS near future. Apparently the Commissioner of the MLS feels a second team in New York makes the most sense. We'll see how well that goes but I like how well the league has been growing!
