Welcome to DMDewar.com
Welcome to my soapbox, well maybe, but not so much. I'm not real preachy I just use this website pretty much for whatever I feel like and have for the last five years. It's kind of like my notebook that I happen to share. Basically I cover anything of interest to me which is mostly tech toys, MMA, alternative music, golf, and occasionally stuff that is going on with me.

A little about me? Well my favorite movies are Inside Man, The Usual Suspects, Training Day... My favorite tv shows are Dexter, and Californication. I am a sports junkie following the Dodgers and Lakers religiously and root for the Chargers by default since we dont have a pro football team. Basically any team from the Los Angeles area. I'm been married 16 years and have two daughters 15 and 13! Enough about me though!

Enjoy the site!

Thanks again!

Sling Player for iPhone!
Well the Sling Box is the best thing to happen to TV since Tivo, and now its feeling its true impact on the best thing to happen to cell phones! The Sling Player App for the iPhone has been around for a while but it was a WiFi only app! Now its been released in a 3G version as well so now you can watch your Sing Player anywhere on the iPhone! Now I really want to get me a Sling Box!

Winter X Games
Well I had a great time this weekend watching the Winter X Games as a kind of warm up for the upcoming Olympics. I love the X Games in general but in particular the winter variety.

I have also been catching up on my hockey this year especially since the Kings have been playing so much better. Im going to have to score some tickets for a game this year and check them out in person.

Got a new laptop for work today! Nothing fancy but very practical. Its a Dell Latitude and I have a docking station at either hospital meaning Im not having to sync between my desktop files anymore. Since I've become addicted to my dual monitor setup the docking stations have become my new best buddy.

Lakers have been playing solid ball but I worry whether they truly mena spirit they had when they went all the way last year. They did take out Boston in a great game Sunday so maybe Im just worried for no good reason.

Apple iPad
ipad_hero_20100127 (121k image)

Well I have to admit I'm concerned I'm becoming a bit of an Apple fan boy. Sure I've owned every generation of iPhone that has come out and several iPods. But on the other hand I've never owned a Mac. So I have to admit I was excited about todays announcement of their new tablet which they have labeled iPad. I had hoped for a netbook version of a mac knowing we were looking at a tablet device. I think this device will hit that mark since it appears to be more than just an oversized iPhone. It will include the core iPhone apps of email, calendar, music, etc. with wifi and at a premium 3G radio connectivity. So sure the apps have more potential with increased viewing real estate on the 9.7 inch screen which sets it around the size of you average netbook screen with what looks like an amazing display. Apple has produced iWork apps specifically for this device in an effort to gap it from the iPhone but not so much as to believe you can replace a laptop with it. It is targeted to fall in between the iPhone and a Mac. It will be capable of doing what most people need a device for at home which is audio, video, photos, and books. Imcurious to see if they will work out a way to print directly from the iPad or will you have to email items to a real computer to do that. All in all its an eciting device. Apple will price the wifi only model at $499 for a 16GB model to $699 for a 64GB model and 3G enabled devices will run $629 to $829 for the extra radio. Battery life is claimed at 10 hours in use and 31 days on standby. Apple also announced 3 accesories a dock, dock with keboard, and a case. I also understand it will run with an Apple bluetoot keboard as well. The price is steeper than most netbooks but the device seems worth it!

Bad Bad Blogger
Well life has been keeping me busy but all is good. Tomorrow we hope to hear about the inafamous Apple Mac Tablet. The rumors have it as 10 inch tablet/netbook using a beefed up version of the iphone os which if my memory serves me right is a slimmed down version of the Mac OS. Its definitely going to have a reader function as today a textbook publisher spilled the beans about the new device. I cant wait to hear about it tomorrow!

Busy Busy Busy
Well it was another wonderful week.

-Had my friends from work over for a little Xmas get together Saturday. It was beautiful weather so we hung out on the patio and barbequed. Not very xmasy but hey.
-Watched the CIF State Championship bowl games on Friday and Sturday. Disappointed that Crenshaw couldn't take out De La Salle as I thought they had that game before their start was injured, Serra was great in bringing a title home to Gardena.
-Great WEC on Saturday. Love watching the little guys take it to the octagon. Not sure why the UFC doesnt just absorb the 135 and 145 pound divisions.
-I loved the Sing Off show though typically Im not into the whole talent/reality show thing. Nota was definitely the group to win!
-I got a Motorola ROKR bluetooth headset as a gift. Its very cool and I am enjoying the lack of wires!

Wow what a weekend!
:) Well UFC 107 shaped up to be a great card and none of the fights I was interested in disapointed me. BJ Penn manhandled Diego Sanchez over 5 rounds before putting a stop to it in the last round. I think he was sending a message of I can go 5 now and still dominate the division.
:O Frank Mir destroyed Cheick Kongoin about 45 seconds. Things that impressed me the most were that Frank came in at 265 pounds without looking fat, and he outstruck Kongo before choking him out catching him with a huge shot.
:) Kenny Florian looked awesome as he laid it to an always tough Clay Guida. It was a good night to be a BJJ guru turned striker.
;) Saturday was my work Xmas party but I had to put in a little work running the powerpoint for the CEO's speech, before partaking in a few rum and cokes. All in all it was a fun night and I had a great time.

Ahh Thanksgiving Weekend
smile Well its been nice to have the long weekend...Managed to get the old section of my patio replaced so now I just need to replace my back fence and I should be happy with the house...Of course everytime I finish something I find something else to do.
sad My elbow is still bugging me but I bought a support for it which seems to make it pretty bearable seems to be some kind of tendinitis but who knows.
smile Well I was thrilled to see Toby Gerhardt and Stanford beat up Notre Dame though honestly I think both schools take the high road when it comes to college athletics and deserve a ton of support. To all the defenders of Notre Dame and Charlie Weiss who use the escuse they are handicapped because of their standards just had to look across the field last night for an example of someone else who has the same standards.
smile Finished reading Super Freakonomics this week, actually in a bout of coffee enduced insomnia. Its a great book and I reccomend it to anyone looking for a different perspective on the issues surrounding the world today. Using the Kindle reader on my iPhone really makes me want to get a Kindle though...
shocked USC took it UCLA in the battle for Los Angeles last night but the game wasn't particularly exciting and I think was more of an indication of where both teams need to get to!
big grin Got the new Blackberry Storm 2 which I like a lot though the touch screen is a little frustrating at times with my fat fingers.
