Cro Cop in the UFC
Well it appears more and more likely that Cro Cop will be fighting in the UFC and hopefully it will be announced this Saturday seeing as how rumors have been flying lately and now they seem to have signed an opponent for him in February by the name of Eddie Sanchez. Who would have thought we would be seeing Cro Cop and Rampage on the same UFC card? Certainly not me but Im always willing to be pleasantly surprised.

Posting
Well I have definitely been slacking on the old posting couldnt even bother putting out a merry xmas post but hey everyone is entitled to a break. Xmas was a little weird since my wife and girls are in Guatemala and xmas just wasnt the same. That said though life has been hectic. Got a new Motorola Q cellphone which is a pretty solid phone and since we are slowly but surely putting in exchange 2003 at work I will be able to get stuff off the server directly rather than have it run off my laptop. I have been playing tons of ping pong including playing in a little club round robin and even bought a new racquet a Donic Waldner Dotec AR which has been really nice. MMA has been booming lately as we found out in the past couple of weeks that MMA will be on Showtime, The UFC bought the WFA and WEC meaning we have a lot more fighters on the roster to look forward to including Rampage Jackson. Got some good games fo the xbox for christmas I got Gears of War Collectors edition, Rockstar Table Tennis, and The Godfather. Since I have been without adult supervision the past couple of weeks I have been able to get some gaming in!

60 minutes covers MMA
I was really impressed with the coverage. Renzo Gracie and Pat Militech were great representatives for the sport and I think it pretty adequately covered the various elements that make MMA great.

UFC Fight Night
The UFC Fight Night was awesome tonight. I know that migjht seem like an odd statement but really I thought every fight tonight was a good one. To open the night off Shonie Carter took on Former TUF contestant Marcus Davis and Davis though taking the bout by unanimous decision had his hands full. Carter showed how tough a veteran he was by standing tough against Davis who outmatched him in every level. Carter had the support of the Marines in attendance being a former Marine himself but they couldnt carry him to victory though I was impressed with Marcus' remarks after the fight thanking the troops even though they booed him the entire night except after the fight of course. Karo Parisyan took a unanimous decision over the very tough Drew Fickett to get his career back on the winning track. Karo didn't escape without his share of wounds especially a brutal gash under his eye after a Fickett elbow. Josh Koscheck won a unanimous decision over a very game Jeff Joslin and really had top fall back on his old wrestling game to control the fight. Kos however looks like he continues to improve and I kind of hope he'll get a shot at Diego again though not til after Diego has had a title shot. This welterweight division is so deep now. Speaking of deep Diego Sanchez put an exclamation mark on his contender status knocking out Joe Riggs in quick fashion with a powerful right hook followed by a knee as Joe shot to defend himself and then unrelentless barrage of shots to Rigg's head until Big John could seperate them. It was a great victory for Diego and should cement him in for a title shot after Serra and Hughes get there shots at the belt. In what is perhaps even bigger news Sherdog is reporting that Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic has signed with the UFC which definitely makes the heavyweight division a lot more interesting. Makes me wonder what they will do with Heath Herring? I hope they did get Cro Cop it shows the UFC really is out to get the best guys and after the purchase of the WFA announced this week would be a great sign.

UFC buys out WEC and the WFA?
Wow what a week for Zuffa.. First they buy out the WEC with the thought of having two promotions so they can negotiate a second TV deal possibly with HBO and then the WFA falls in their lap so they can scoop up a stable of great fighters possibly to bolster their WEC? Among the fighters they picked up Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, who is well known for his victory over Chuck Liddell and Ryoto "Lyoto" Machida who is well known for his victories over BJ penn and Rich Franklin. Also picked up in the aquisition were fan favorite Jason "Mayhem" Miller, Urijah Faber, and Heath "Crazy Horse" Herring also well known to those familiar with the Pride Circuit. I am curious to see how these guys work out for Zuffa either on the UFC or WEC banner because honestly a lot of these fighters make for some reall compelling competition for the UFC if they are put under a different banner. It would also create a second banner that would be tough for the competition to deal with making organizations like Pride and the IFL have to work that much harder.

KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas
Well I came very close to paying scalping prices to go see night 2 of the Night 2 of KROQ's almost acoustic Xmas since it had three of my favorite artists with Beck, The Killers, and The Foo Fighters but I decided to keep with my long tradition and watch the webcast. Saved myself a couple hundred clams that way. The show was great. Beck was awesome as always, I was disappointed with The Killers who didnt sound like themselves but were still entertaining. The Foo Fighters were awesome, they played both nights by the way... Watched most of night one as well which was also great.. Well maybe I'll go the show next year. I have been to the last two Weanie Roasts and even went to Inland Invasion a couple of years ago but Almost Acoustic Xmas is special because it was this show in 2000 that got me hooked on KROQ again!

Sunday Night Football
I have really become hooked on the Sunday night football game. Basically the NFL uses a flex schedule meaning they put the best game on with Fox and CBS allowed to protect a certain number. NBC has done a great job this year, Michaels and Madden have been great so far and I have really enjoyed the games. I am almost as addicted as I am to watching Heroes on Monday Night. Tonights game was a surprise blowout whiche even more surprising was actually entertaining to watch. Yje Saints took it to the Cowboys and I am pretty pumped about New Orleans though even now I am not completely convinced. The trifecta of Brees, Deuce, and Bush are an exciting group and add Joe Horn and you have an explosive group. Add a hot young coach and who knows where they can end up.

Sanuks
Hey id be the first to admit that my preferred wardrobe is cargo shorts, snadals and a pull over sweatshirt so when I saw these sanuks at a local shoe store they peaked my interest. They are advertised as sandals not shoes but really they are more advanced than they give themselves credit for. Basically they are a lot like Nike Free Shoes for casual wear. They are really comfortable and offer a closed toe so you can wear them on a setting that you couldn't wear sandals. If your a sandal kind of person check them out..

Tough week for me in football
Wow not only did USC get knocked out of the BCS Championship by overachieving UCLA but Friday night Pedro high got clobbered in the city championship game against Birmingham 45-7 in the Colisseum. Birmingham had it all with a tough defense, strong passing game, and a scrappy running back that left Pedro without any answers. Hey but even though neither of my teams got where they wanted they both had great seasons. It is kind of amazing that USC now gets disappointed by a 10-2 season and a spot in the Rose Bowl eh?

CIF State Championship Bowl - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
The Good - The State finally has a Championship in place which almost certainly will provide for excellent football games in the North versus South structure.
The Bad - Unfortunately its still a bowl system and not a true playoff. I understand the reasoning behind it more here than I do in the BCS though...
The Ugly - I understand the complicated process that they must have gone through to set up the process for selection..But as of two weeks ago Lutheran was ranked first in the So Cal Division 2 rankings and LB Poly was ranked first in the So Cal Division 1 and they were facing each other in the playoffs. I understand having the schools classified by size, seems fair enough, gotta win their CIF Championship to qualify for selection, check there two, Problem is the CIF Conferences arent based on size and maybe they will correct this in the near future. Poly was number 1 facing Lutheran who was and being in different divisions but the same vonference may mean Poly who could have won the State title cant because they faced a D2 school who is on fire this year. Hopefully they will start realigning this in the near future so that the CIF Conferences allign better with the State Divisions...

Wow I want a college playoff for football!
I was glancing at the final rankings for the BCS and I was thinking about the posibilites there would be in the whole playoff debate. If the eight team playoff were implemented wed have in the opening round Ohio State vrs Boise State, Florida vrs Wisconsin, Michigan vrs. Louisville, and LSU vrs USC. Those four matchups alone have some great intrigue and excitement. We'd learn quickly how good Boise State really was. Florida would be facing off against the team that got the BCS shaft this year in Wisconsin, and who wouldnt want to see SC and LSU face off again? Assuming the favorites won all of those games you would have Ohio State vrs LSU and Florida vrs Michigan in the semifinals. Again great power football games a week after some great power football games. Lets just say you get Ohio State and Florid at the end of that all you would have no arguments left. But Im guessing SC would beat LSU and so theyd end up facing Ohio State in the semis and I'm guessing Michigan would beat Florida to get to the finals so it'd be Ohio State vrs Michigan for the Championship as it should be. Maybe nobody want to see a rematch as evidenced by the voters polls but hey after rolling through Louisville and Florida who could argue against a rematch?
