$1.5M Homemade Bar Code Scam
Talk about crazy ways to rip people off I found this story on engadget who found it on CBS. Basically the ring would create their own bar codes at home for less expensive items and then would place them on the expensive items purchase them at the lesser price and then either sell them or return them to Wal Mart at the regular price for a huge profit. As always their greed led to their demise as police found over 10 K in stolen goods and were led to the ring leaders whom they arrested.

Leslie Elizabeth Reyes
Well we have a new member of the family as my sister in law Zenaida had lil Leslie Elizabeth at 9:00 am on 12/28/04. She's a cute lil thing. She came home yesterday and is really quite easy to live with. We have been spoiling her while trying not to spoil her too much. My younger daughter is quite enamored with her and is difficult to seperate from her. I worry about seperation anxiety when Leslie and Zenaida go to Florida but hey we will face that hurdle when it comes. In other news Chepito s coming out to visit and sign the birth certificate. Poor Guy comes out in the morning and leaves in the evening, mind you from Fort Lauderdale no less to Long Beach. It will be his first chance seeing the baby as well! Zenaida is holding up well despite having to put up with my wife and Lupe lecturing her on how to take care of herself Guatemala style. If you can imagine a mixture of about 3/4 common sense and 1/4 withcraft you have what is the mixture of a womens healing for the forty days after giving birth. 40 days has some significance as my wife was told by her OB to not have any ACTIVITY for 40 days. Zenaida has to maintain a strict diet and also can do very little around the house as well. Seems to drive her nuts as she doesn't like to sit still but hey it is easier than dealing with dynamic duo known as her sisters.

Reggie White
Now I respect Reggie White for his football prowess. But I was reading some comments he made and thought if you didn't know who the speaker was you would think that it was a white supremecist. Up until the last comment think clan as you read it.

White said he has thought about why God created different races. Each race has certain gifts, he said.

  • Blacks are gifted at worship and celebration, White said. "If you go to a black church, you see people jumping up and down because they really get into it," he said.

  • Whites are good at organization, White said. You guys do a good job of building businesses and things of that nature, and you know how to tap into money," he said.

  • "Hispanics were gifted in family structure, and you can see a Hispanic person, and they can put 20, 30 people in one home."

  • The Japanese and other Asians are inventive, and "can turn a television into a watch," White said. Indians are gifted in spirituality, he said.

  • "When you put all of that together, guess what it makes: It forms a complete image of God," White said.

Motorola A630 for Tmobile
Be it open or closed. The Motorola A630 is a really cool looking phone. Basically its a pretty compact cameraphone that you can pop open to reveal a qwerty keyboard. I am partial to my Sidekick 2 but I might consider this phone if I needed to use my phone for calls more. The $249 price is with a new contract and the phone lists for $349 but hey who cares as long as it's cool.

Pride Shockwave
I was looking at the lineup for Pride Shockwave and boy am I going to have to buy this. Talk about some awesome fights. First off any card with Nog / Fedor is awesome. On top of that are four or five top card bouts. Fedor Nog is for two belts, the heavyweight title and the Pride GP title. These guys are going to hopefully have the chance to put on a show. I am fascinated by the Yoshida and Gardner matchup though I imagine it might be a lil awkward. Whu sakuraba would want to face Silva again is beyond me but I think if he keeps this up hes going to have serious brain damage. The Henderson / Kondo fight looks awesome as well as these are two guys that love to put on a good show. Finally for the lil men Gomi / Pulver should be a great fight but it would have been more significant back when both these guys were untouchable. Cro Cop will be looking to take Randlemans head off after being the cause of Cro Cops early departure from the Grand Prix. Cro Cop has a chance to prove it was a fluke like he claims. The rest of the card is strong and this should be an awesome show.

Fedor Emelianenko (Russia) vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (Brazil)
Hidehiko Yoshida (Japan) vs. Rulon Gardner (USA)
Wanderlei Silva (Brazil) vs. Kazushi Sakuraba (Japan)
Dan Henderson (USA) vs. Yuki Kondo (Japan)
Takanori Gomi (Japan) vs. Jens Pulver (USA)
Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic vs. Kevin Randleman
Makoto Takimoto (Japan) vs. Henry “Sentoryu” Miller (USA)
Stefan Leko (Germany) vs. Ikuhisa Minowa (Japan)
Paolo “Giant” Silva (Brazil) vs. Choi Mu Bae (Korea)
Yoji Anjo (Japan) vs. Ryan Gracie (Brazil)
Ryo Chonan (Japan) vs. Anderson Silva (Brazil)

Well after several years of trying I was finally able to win my leagues fantasy football championship. It was a lot of luck during the regular season followed by some actual work in the playoffs to tie it up. I finished 4th in the regular season after dropping my last two games due to disregard. When I made the playoffs I started doing my research and was somehow able to pull off a couple of miraculous wins. Really after looking back though it was the first two weeks that I dropped and picked up players since the draft making two changes the week of the championship and four the week of the semi finals. Oh well managed to pull it off. Now lets see if I can get a healthy team in basketball.

Christmas & Dance Dance Revolution
Well Xmas was well spent with the families. As si tradition we went to my parent's house to eat xmas eve dinner and to open presents. Then we were off to my sister in laws house for some tamales and the abrazo at midnight. The girls did pretty well getting mostly bratz and polly pockets. They also cleaned up with a portable dvd player thay can use in the car, which should make the road trips a lil more bearable. They got Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 2 from Santa. Its the dance game which came with a pad so you have to match the dance moves that are on the screen. It almost kills me since Im so out of shape but its fun. They also have a workout option which I'm going to see if it doesnt work out for me. As long as I dont have to go out to embarass myself.

Evolve Cars
Well I was browsing around the web checking out my two favorite cars out there. The Volvo S40 and the Scion TC. Both cars are fairly cost efficient but then I saw the evolve S40 which is just awesome. I did a lil researching at www.evolvecars.com and found out they do some awesome things to the fairly plain jane volvos. Check out the Evolve S40 which they have just tweaked to the extreme witha turbo that gives 400hp at all four wheels. All I can say is I want one!

Heres a lil tidbit about Evolve Cars:

Who is EVOLVE?
EVOLVE was created with one goal in mind: to transform new Volvos into high-performance vehicles while retaining their extraordinary standard for safety. EVOLVE contributes the finest in motorsports technology to bring Volvo enthusiasts the race-level performance, distinction and comfort they desire in their automobile.

Majerus walks out on SC Gig!
Well as you can see by my last post just when I started to get excited about possibillities of SC basketball Majerus has apparently had a change of heart and asked to stay on at ESPN. This sucks why would you say you had decided to come and then suddenly turn tail and run. I wonder if we are going to have a kobe like revelation, oh no Majerus isn't married so it couldn't have been Karl hitting on his wife, hmmm. I heard that at his meeting with interim coach Stair he had a salad and a bowl of soup, hey I know what the problem is hell he cant stand the thought of giving up his food. Hell its like Ricky Williams trying to give up his extra curricular pot smoking. I mean hell who wants to do something if we have to be healthy to do it. Ricks worried about having to eat healthy. Can you imagine the papparazzi chasing him around taking pictures of his meals no wonder the guy doesn't want to come here. For Christ's sake let the man eat in piece, good grief who cares what he had to eat the other day. Hell next they'll want to know what he shit.

USC Basketball
I think USC has finally taken a page from its football success and is going to make a success out of its basketball program as well. By hiring Rick Majerus the Trojans are definitely sending a message that they are tired of being second fiddle to UCLA in socal hoops. Majerus was awesome during his tenure at Utah and has been very classy about not upsetting a team that lost its coach shortly into the season. Majerus has decided to be an assistant for the rest of this season letting the current coach run the team until seasons end when Majerus will take over. Already they are saying that with the Majerus hiring USC should have an advantage at recruiting over UCLA.

Telenav and Nextel
I dont know if you have heard the new Nexte Cellular commercials where they talk about sattelite navigation but I was immediately caught. So I was checking out the website and came across the Telenav Software which does exactly as the commercial claims. Basically it is a premium service which allows you to get GPS navigation with your nextel phone. The service varies in price depending on whether you order it directly from telenav or if you want it as part of your nextel bill. For those paranoid bosses there is TeleNavTrack which allows you to locate your employees. While I have a serious big brother complex the website puts a nicer spin on the product:

TeleNavTrack helps you improve the productivity of your field workers and mobile assets. It does this by providing you real-time access to your fleet's status and visibility into their activities.

GPS tracking and dispatch:
TeleNavTrack allows dispatchers to view the entire fleet's status, so they can make informed dispatch decisions. Dispatchers save time further with automatic and easy-to-use communication tools to drivers.

Detailed activity reports:
TeleNavTrack provides detailed reports on your fleet's activities to help you identify areas of improvement. Whether it is improving drive times or more accurately tracking worker hours, TeleNavTrack provides you an integrated solution to improve productivity at all levels!

Roxanne's Home for the Holidays
Well there is an interesting twist that happened yesterday in the saga/good deed that is Roxanne's Home for the Holidays on KROQ. The band Incubus and particularly Brandon the lead singer called in yesterday to say that he was putting the version of Roxanne that he sung with Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers on Itunes and that all proceeds would go to Roxanne's home for the holiday. What a great thing for them to do with such a wonderful tie in. A tidbit about Roxanne and the help KROQ is providing this holiday season:

21 year old KROQ listener Roxanne needs your help! Both her parents recently passed away and left Roxanne and her three younger siblings living in an uncompleted house. Before her father's passing this fall an addition was begun to expand their two-bedroom house into a more livable space. Currently there are rooms literally open to the elements with plastic sheets keeping the cold out. Because so many items are needed to complete the project we've listed a few very simple ways you can help. The Home Depot Torrance location will direct all mail and donations to Roxanne and/or contractor. Click here to see photos of Roxanne's house and the start of the rebuilding.

Click here to purchase a Home Depot gift card. Enter Roxanne's information, provided below. Then enter your credit card info and the donation amount. A gift card will automatically be mailed to the Torrance location for her to put to use. This method is the simplest because you can pay by credit card. Only Roxanne will have access to the funds. We prefer this method for donations under $100.

Stupid comment robots
I have been noticing an increase in robots that place comments in greymatter websites, in particular mine. I really look forward to the occasional comment I get and to find out its the equib=valent of spam is pretty annoying but I have to admit its both ingenious and a waste of time at the same time. Its great that you can promote your site with a robot who does the work for you but it sucks that you trash the site at my expense. Also who would be dumn enough to click through one of these links. Some comments are obviously ads as they have no shame and just plug their product. Others are a lil more intelligent and try to post a pertinent comment with a link hidden in their comment. Consequently I have turned off the html in my comments so as to prevent this from happening or to at least make it blatantly obvious when someone posts a junk link. Really I could probably do away with comments altogether as most people seem to prefer karma voting to comments but the few decent comments I get I really like.

KROQ - Almost Acoustic Christmas Night 2
Well once again I wasnt able to find a way to go to Acoustic Christmas so I watched on the web much to my wifes displeasure. Oh well Mans gotta do what a mans gotta do! Which by the way probably doesnt cover you on concerts the day after you flew solo to the work xmas party because your wife was sick but hey.... Enough about me. I logged into the concert on the tail end of Papa Roach's set which was great. I was amazed, concerned, about how uhmmm ....... mature he looks now. He was one of the bands playing the first acoustic xmas I watched that really cemented my converion again to alternative music. Next was Sum 41 and they while still youn have really grown up as well. There music seems to get better and they were really strong as far as putting on their show getting the crowd going which in this kind of setting Im sure they were getting tired. Next up was Social Distortion. Now I am stupid but I didn't realize all the songs that Social D does that I really like. Mike Ness looked like he was someones ex cholo dad from ELA up there singing Rockabilly Punk Classics one after the other. I would love to see them again if the chance presents itself again.

Finally the big, well not really, and then yeah surprise of the night Incubus. Incubus was another of the bands that played the Acoustic Xmas that converted me to Alternative as well as a lil band named Linkin Park. Incubus was awesome as always. Then came the big surprise of Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers of the former cult favorite The Police came out and played a few songs with Brandon playing the part of Sting. Brandon could barely hide his excitement as he sang De Do Do Do, De da da Da, Message in Bottle, and finally Roxanne to top off the set. It was quite possibly the best set Ive seen up to this point. Little did I know it was going to be challenged in short time. But not by the next band Velvet Revolver, they were good but really they had the tough assignment of following Incubus and preceding Greenday. I really like Velvet Revolver, especially sice I was an STP fan and GnR fan in the day. However I found I really only got pumped up by the old STP songs Weiland sang like he had more or a different energy singing them.

Greenday was next to close out the show. Everyone had been dropping hints that they would play American Idiot straight through and tuh duh they did. The Set was awesome. Billy Joe has an energy on stage that cant be matched. I have trouble when people say that Aerican Idiot is great but its not historic. I havent heard an album that was a s strong in quite some time and now Im even more impressed since I have heard it live. Better hope no one who is voting at the grammys heard this show they will be biased now.

My Xmas Party
Well I was a good boy this year and went to my work's xmas party. It was at the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles which was really nice. The Bonaventure was the IT hotel when I was a kid I think because of the elevators though it is obviously a very nice hotel. The party was great typical xmas party affair, no gossip unfortunately. My buddy Espy got her 25 years of service award which was the main reason I went.

Centre Street Lofts
Well as I drive to work I pass this huge sign for the soon to be Centre Street Lofts. The project is essentially in Downtown San Pedro and is a combination of lofts, retail, and condominiums. The units aren't huge but look like they are nicely designed. Should be interesting to see what the finished product looks like and what kind of retail they actually draw in.

Fox Television
Now I'm not a big television watcher but I've heard enough good stuff about Fox Sunday and Mondau night that I decided to take them both in this week. Unfortunately I now think I'm hooked as Sundays lineup of the Simpsons which Ive always liked in sinfull kind of way, Malcolm in the middle, and Arrested Development are hilarious. They make a good 123 punch and I really liked Malcolm and Arrested. Now Monday is the 12 of Trading Spouses and The Swan. This is another powerful combo of really interesting reality shows. Trading Spouses is Fox reality's dimented way of f'ing with families by traing the moms off to totally different families to see what kind of crap they can stir up. The Swan is like Extreme Makeover of the ugly, emotionally damaged woman who we the bash into pieces by throwing them in a beauty pageant program. I had actually been following the Swan and Trading Spouses by listening to KROQ as they have a bit where ghettofabulous Loquecia breaks down the fine points of both shows. Anyways its a real fine way to waste two evenings a week!

As a side note I noticed that they put both women on The Swan on Nutrisystem diests. I was curious what the diet was and after researching found it to be really interesting. Essentiall you dish out around 300.00 for four weeks of food prepackaged and ready to heat. Basically it is good carb good fat diet you just heat and eat. Sounds like a good way to go except if you have a family which happens to be my case scenario. Oh well maybe I'll give it a shot if I can save up the dough.

Mozilla Firefox
Well on top of me catching up on some posting I decided to try Mozilla Firefox as a replacement for Internet Explorer. At first glance the transition is easy as it imports my bookmarks and history over. The interface is really simple. I tested it briefly and so far I can tell you that pages load much faster than IE and supposedly it is much safer than IE as far as adware is concerned. Speaking of opensource software I am also using Open Office. Im really pleased with it though Open Office has a long ways to go to compete with MS Office if you dont want to shell out the dough for MS office it is a suitable subsitute

Pat Tillman
Pat Tillman, has been the center of recent controversy as it has come to light that he was killed by friendly fire and not the taliban as originally stated. Apparently the Army decided that it wouldn't be good for their most high profile soldier to have been killed by our own troops. Apparently with all of the bad press that was going on with the prison in Iraq they kind of slid the news out the press back door in May. Now the family is asking some tough questions and they are talking about reopening the investigation of his death.

Farenheit 9/11
Well I finally got an opportunity to view this controversial film. It came out on DirecTV pay per view the other day. The film was definitely eye opening though I must be pessimistic as I wasn't surprised by any of the revelations. Bush is crooked much like I expect almost all candidates are. I think the problem is we get crooks who swing on the conservative side of the pendulum or on the other liberal side. What I would like to see is a good down the middle candidate who took the best of both parties and made it work. Now Im sure this will come as no big surprise but I actually voted for Bush this time though I voted for Gore and Clinton prior to him. I flip flop parties actually choosing the candidate who best matches my needs at the moment. I amnot like many people who have a party line and stick to it and this election was all about protecting the United States from terror and I think we are much more vulnerable with a Curry led country.

In other notes I was amazed to see that many hard core liberals are considering immigrating to Canada to escape our current conservative Bully president for another four years. I find it interesting that people would rather move to a liberal country rather than fight for what they believe not to mention that Canada is very similar to the US and has its own set of problems. Im sure this is a dream come true for Bush not only has he secured the presidency but he is losing his parties greatest rivals to the country to the North.

Speaking of Michael Moore he was on the news last night saying that the democratic party needs to find its own superstar. Rather than a policy specialist they need someone with star power to attract voters and then he threw out names like Harrison Ford. Now Im not sure about you but every time I have heard Harrison Ford talk he sounds like he's stoned, unless hes in a movie of course. However I have to agree with Mr Moore that the democratic party needs someone with star power. I strongly believ this is what differentiated Clinton from the last two candidates.

Matt Lindland Version 2.0?
I was surprised when reading Sherdog.com that Matt Lindland Also known as Captain boring to most UFC fans was stirring shit up in London. Matt is a great fighter whos only real two losses were to Bustamante and Terrell. I remember Weir from his quick knockout of Eugene Jackson. Now Lee Murray fresh off a loss to Anderson Silva is famous for his fight with Tito Ortiz in a London Bar. Anyways here's the excerpt:

Matt Lindland proved to be too much for the popular Mark Weir as the American pounded out a first round victory. Weir started well, showcasing the incredible speed of his punches and kicks, but Lindland was not phased, crowding Weir against the cage and working methodically for the takedown. Weir remained calm, defending well from his guard, but was unable to sweep the American. Lindland, for his part, picked and chose his shots, eventually landing a hard elbow that opened up a deep cut on Weir's face.

Despite the booing of the crowd, the doctor ruled that Weir was in no state to come out for the second round.

Lindland proved to be just as entertaining on the microphone as he is in battle, as more fireworks exploded after the fight. During Lindland's post-fight interview, he announced that there was another Brit that he wanted to bash. The crowd's reaction was a mixture of cheers and boos as domestic champion, Lee Murray, rushed to the ring.

Murray had to be restrained as Lindland taunted him about his "rodeo" clothes and offered him some peanuts. "What is this, a circus? Are you a f**king monkey? You want some peanuts, monkey-boy? Are you a clown?" Lindland said.

Murray, never the calmest of individuals, was incensed, responding with a torrent of expletives, as well as calling Lindland a "bald monkey" and suggesting that he should buy himself a wig. "I'll smack you up, you ugly p***y, and send you back to America," he said to Lindland.

Lindland seemed to be enjoying himself, questioning whether anyone could understand a word the angry Murray was saying, and finishing by saying to him: "Look at you, you're hopping mad! Who's the monkey? Who's the monkey, Monkey-Boy?"

The crowd loved the exchange, and the thought of a Lindland-Murray showdown is mouth watering.
