Wednesday, November 28, 2007MMA rankings suckI was looking at the recent mmaweekly rankings and I get upset that BJ Penn and Dan Henderson get the shaft for being great at two weight classes Penn at 155 and 170 and Hendo at 185 and 205 are both easy top 10's in both classes but Hendo was snuffed from the 185 rankings and Penn was snuffed from both divisions despite having a victory over the consensus number one guy in Gomi. Hell Penns last fight at 155 was a decisive victory over Jens Pulver. I am not sure what the crew at MMAweekly are thinking in excluding him. Sure inactivity counts but hell Gomi hasn't done anything since losing to Nick Diaz at the last pride show! posted @ 10:37 PM PST [link] [Karma: 2 (+/-)] Audi R8  I fell in love with this car when I saw it after a Clippers game in the parking lot at Staples Center. I saw it again at the LA Auto Show but was kind of rushed. At $100,000 it is both an expensive car yet inexpensive by supercar standards. It also has a long Audi Racing lineage backing it up. Basically its a mid engine V8 with the infamous Quattro setup. Well with all of the problems I was having with my xB I finally broke down and replaced it today. My lil red Yaris is pretty cool comes nicely appointed and rides a lot better than my xB did. The WEC has a light heavyweight by the name of Brian Stann who is undefeated and while I am not sure he is a direct descendent of Army Combatives I have my suspicions. I was checking out the all army combatives tournament for 2006 and while they dont use the advanced mma techniques until the final rounds of the tourney it is legitimate american rules mma. Now for a brief moment I actually considered doing some shopping myself but I'm not much of a crowd person and after cursing many of the idiots trying to park in the Kohls parking decided it would be better for mankind if I retreated to the mall across the street and killed time with my iPhone. I am still trying to get all the way through the Minutemen album I bought yesterday. Apparently they feel that the show and many of its elements are a direct rip off from them which considering one of the principal characters was named Dani they might have a point. Dani was a character in 3 RHCP songs first appearing in Californication, then By the Way, and finally in Dani California. The suit filed in Los Angeles yesterday seeks a permanent injunction barring Showtime and the other defendants from using the title 'Californication' for the show, damages and restitution and disgorgement of all profits derived by the defendants. Hopefully they wont slow things down before I can get another season out of the way. posted @ 07:07 PM PST [link] Monday, November 19, 2007LA Auto Show 2007 I spent most of my weekend at the LA Auto show and had a blast. The show is a blast and was even better because I knew one of the exhibitors this year. By far the most interesting 3 cars that I might ever be able to afford would be the Ford Edge, Mitsubishi Evolution, and Subaru WRX STI. The Edge with the new SYNC device was really cool. Ford is really making a power move with its new line up. In fact I am going to test drive the Edge and maybe the Fusion this week, as part of their promotion you get a $75 gift card if you do. As you can see by the photo my favorite vehicle was the Ford Flex which comes out next year. It features seating for 7, 19 inch rims, SYNC voice command, Voice controled Nav System, and plenty of other bells and whistles. posted @ 07:20 PM PST [link] UFC 78 While it wasnt the best UFC in recent memory I enjoyed the show on Saturday. Spencer Fischer was dominated in the first bout of the night by Frankie Edgar who used his hometown backing and dominant wrestling to beat the King solidly over three rounds. Ed Herman the fighter everyone loved to hate during his stint on the ultimate fighter walked away with a rare KO victory over Joe Doerkson in the third round. Doerkson who is an experienced fighter has lost his last two fights to submission artists by ko in his last two outings. It may be time for Joe to look at a better conditioning regimen or hang up the gloves. Karo Parisyan's victory over Pride veteran Ryo Chonan may not have been pretty but the guy has won like 8 of his last 9 bouts and probably should get that title shot he has been fighting for since he missed his last by getting injured. Thiago Silva put an end to the legend that had been of Houston Alexander exposing the holes many of us suspected in Alexanders game winning by TKO in the first round. This might actually be a good thing for Alexander as it might motivate him to join a gym where he will get a broader skill set. As for Silva his days of flying under the radar might have come to an end. In the main event Rashad Evans was able to win a decision over Michael Bisping in a close bout which was ultimately decided by Rashads ability to outwrestle Bisping. The Best news to come out of the UFC this weekend is that Anderson Silva will face Dan Henderson at UFC 82 for the middleweight title. Thsi is the second unification bout for the UFC and Henderson for the matter who lost in his first matchup at 205 against Rampage Jackson. posted @ 06:45 PM PST [link] [Karma: 10 (+/-)] Thursday, November 15, 2007Death NoteI just started reading the Japanese Manga series Death Note after the kid I tutor was so enveloped in the series I wanted to see what was grabbing his attention so. Read through the first two chapters and it really is a good read. The interesting thing is even though the book is in english it is published Japanese style in other words it goes from back to front and right to left. Who knows IFL needs to get theirstuff together they have a great promotion they are trying to make the most of. Ruud Gullit has some major experience having won a European Championship, two Champions League medals and three Italian Serie A championships with AC Milan. As a coah he is most notorious for bring Chelsea close to parity with Manchester United before failing to finalize a contract with the owners. Oddly Gullit has been declared the David Becham of managers, lets hope not last seasons Beckham. Gullit seems to have the right attitude for the job and certainlt knows what it takes to make a winner. posted @ 11:59 PM PST [link] Thursday, November 8, 2007Lost Canyons Golf CourseWell I had the chance to play in my first tournament today at Lost Canyons Golf Course and I had a blast. The facility is awesome. The clubhouse was top notch and the driving range was the first I have hit off natural grass. The course itself was beautiful and also very challenging. The day was great, played with a very entertaining group and we had a great dinner to top things off. I have tons of respect for Joe Torre and what he did in New York even though he has quite a job ahead of him in Los Angeles I think he's a perfect match for the Dodgers. Reminds me a lot of Tommy Lasorda in some ways in that he is a sort of iconic manager. Now I want to see where A Rod goes. Rumors have the Dodgers and the Angels as the top 2 candidates and honestly I'd be thrilled if he went with either team.
