Healthcare CIO/CFO Summit 2007
Well I am back for my first official day of work today and I got hammered pretty hard. I spent the last two and a half days at a CIO/CFO/CNO summit in Rancho Mirage at the Rancho Las Palmas resort. It was a very nice setting but the summit actually turned out to be a lot of relaxing and working at the same time. The time was split between networking, meeting with vendors, and sessions on hot topics in healthcare. Basically we were booked for every moment of the summit. I was really tired today but all in all it was a very rewarding experience and I would do it again!

RDM+ for iPhone
RDM+ is an exciting new product that allows you to control a remote desktop from your iPhone. I tried it on my computer and while it is not as strong a product as gotmypc or log me in it does run on your iphone. Im going to test it until they try to amke me pay for it and then I'll make a final decision on it.

I'm Blocked in China
blockedinchina (56k image)

I'm not sure what vibrantly controversial information I spew on my site that might make me trouble for communist youth but seeing as how I dont get much recognition for my website otherwise I guess I should take this as a compliment. I was watching a pod on Current about the The Great Firewall of China when I found out about China's firewall policy and they even use email filltering which kind of reminds me of work.

Citizen M Hotel
Saw this on engadget and I like the concept so check it out;

citizenM hotels are developed using prefabricated rooms (14 sqm internal floor area) with a uniquely functional and comfortable interior. The public areas are traditionally constructed. citizenM hotels can contain from 100 to 300 rooms. Due to the efficient building layout this roughly corresponds with only 3,000 to 7,000 sqm gross floor area (GFA) respectively (average of approximately 26 sqm GFA per room). As a result of the building system the on-site construction time is limited to 6 months

Panasonic SDR S10 Camcorder
panasonicSDRS10Camcorder (15k image)

Digital Camcorders are slowly going to take over the imaging world. Check out the example above! And look at the description below. I just checked and it is running for a little under $250.00 at Circuity City.

Panasonic's SDR-S10. It's small (a mere 0.40 lbs.), it's black, it's "water resistant," and it's cheap, with an MSRP of just $399. It's also drop-protected from a height of four feet - so feel free to knock it off your table every once in a while - just don't drop it off the ski lift. The choice of SD/SDHC memory cards for video recording made it possible for the company to pack a full-fledged camcorder into PDA-sized body (slightly thicker but slightly narrower than a Treo).

Sigg Water Bottles
siggblackwaterbottle (14k image)

While I am certainly not the greatest environmental defender in the world I have learned to do my part. I have aslo learned that I have to drink lots of water to keep my badly abused machine in close to running condition. Sigg Swiss Engineered Water Bottles allow you to balance both needs. Turns out all those damn fancy water bottles we buy fill up landfills quickly as we dummp about 40 billion a year. You can use a fancy designed Sig bottle and buy dispensed water and keep your hydrationa nd environmental concerns at bay so I suppose that is a true win win!

Tarma Designs
tarma_necklace (6k image)

Found a cool new line of jewelry I like, now dont get the wrong idea here its for the most part manly stuff. Tarma Designs makes a variety of "personal art" maybe I better just let you read their vision;

Tarma is a company that designs, manufactures and sells unique, high quality, personal art that celebrates the spirit of adventure and a love of the outdoors. Guiding our enterprise is a commitment to meaningful social and environmental issues.

SO basically they mak earth friendly stuff you can wear, another donism getting to the point eh? Anyways I saw soem of their stuff in Backpacker Magazine and then checked it out on REI.com.

KNotts Halloween Haunt or Knotts Scary Farm for us old timers
Took my daughters a couple of god daughters and a friend of my younger daughter to Knotts Halloween Haunt last night and I have to admit it was a lot of fun. The girls were a little overwhelmed by the spooks at times and bot they do their job well. The place was so packed though there was barely time to get on many rides and we didnt make it into any of the mazes. There were several "spook zones" where employees in masks would try to scare you silly with a variety of spooky techniques. Around midnight it got to be a bit much for the girls as they laid the fog on pretty thick and there were plenty of gouls in the Ghost town. All in all I had a blast though I definitely get a little claustrophonic with all the people.

The Killers - Sawdust B Sides and Rarities
You know I am not much of a fan of gimicky albums but the first two samples off of this album sound really good. The Killers released Shadowplay this week on iTunes and apparently it is a remake of an old joy division song. The next song comes out next week and is called Tranquilize and it features Lou Reed. You can listen to it on their site. The whole album drops on November 13th but you can start preordering next week as well.

Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks Heres The Sex Pistols
Its funny but I have not been this thrilled about a release especially one that has been out for so long as I have been for this album on iTunes. I got hooked on the Sex Pistols when I was 15 and in England and played that tape endlessly It brings back some pretty cool memories of that trip in England I took running around London with my cousin. Cool stuff and its amazing how an album can stir up those old sentimental memories.

Microsoft® Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000
ms_wireless_mouse_3000 (10k image)

I finally got around to buying a wireless mouse, basically my laptop travels with me everywhere figured it'd be nice to have a mouse that did to. I really like the mouse a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 not that it does anything different but just seems to work well? It is smaller than most mice I use so maybe that is the difference for me. Its amazing how the little things can make a big difference though.

Why I love College Football
Hey I know it can be frustrating and heartbreaking but hey whats better than college football. Who would have predicted that at this point in the season Arizona State would be the only undefeated team in the Pac 10 conference and Souther Florida would be number 2 in the BCS?

Beckhamless Galaxy looking like a possible playoff hope
Now 5 weeks ago nobody would have given the Galaxy a snowballs chance in hell of making the playoffs. Now as the season closes down the Galaxy looks to have a slight chance to make the field after winning five games in a row. The Galaxy say thay have finally gotten to gel as a team which is the sudden turnaround in results. I say I believe them. They sit 4 points behind Kansas City and Chicago with a game in hand i.e. they have one more game to play than either of those two teams. The experts seem pretty confident that KC is in so Chicago looks to be the victim of choice for the Galaxy to try and knock off. The Galaxy have two games to pick up the needed points with a Thursday meeting with the New York Red Bulls who just tied up their spot in the playoss and then a much anticipated matchup with the Fire. So basically the Galaxy would be in clean with 2 more wins and could tie for the last spot with a New York tie and a Chicago win but they would have to then play Chicago again in a one game knockoff to get in the playoffs, Can they do it? A few weeks ago I would have said no now I am not counting them out...

This isn't your daddy's LPGA
First off let me say that when it comes to female sports I respect them with the same guile that I respect men's sports. That said I am about to make what may sound like a very sexist observation but here goes anyhow. The LPGA tour has changed a lot. What used to be a sport with women who weren't much more attractive than the their male counterparts has really polished up. I was watching the Samsung Championship, which NBC still cut short to show a 1-4 Notre Dame play a game that best could be hyped as a Catholic University Championship and at best was a crappy Notre Dame playing a ranked Boston College when BC usually wins when the roles are swapped. These lady golfers are portraying a whole new image as most were very attractive and played some damn good golf. Lorena Ochoa who is basically the Tiger Woods of the Ladies game as Annika Sorenstam has now dropped off the radar is a very attractive lady who is sponsored by some big time companies. I know women's golf has some negative stereotypes but honestly it was an intesresting day of golf and a pretty strong round to watch. Dont be surprised to see some of these ladies bumping up into the big time consciousness some time soon.

Xbox why do you torment me so?
Well as I picked up my fourth new xbox yesterday after my third got the infamour 3 rings of death after my nephew put it through a marathon session. My first had a bad disk reader so i brought it back a couple of weeks after I bought it after occasionally getting to play it. Then my second xbox was pretty good. It didnt give me any grief for almost a year before it started freezing up after about 3 minutes of play. I brought it back and got my third (with a second insurance purchase so now we are in about $500.00 with the original purchase and two replacement insurance purchases. My third died after a marathon Halo session with my nephew which begot the three rings of death. Now fortunately I was able to transfer that boxes insurance to the new one which supposedly has been designed better than the original. The clerk at the shop was telling me he thought they were going to be discontinuing the insurance program because they have taken a bath on it and I understand there stance but the sucks if we have to work direct with Microsoft to get our damn units back.

Honda's new toy
honda_crz (24k image)

While looking at the picture I definitely see CRX and am apparently not the only one as this is hot on the rumor trail as the new CRX. The car is really nice looking and features 19 inch rims and a hybrid gas electric drive so its practical as well as cool which makes it a winner in my book.

Randy Couture Retires Again
Apparently after feeling disrespected by UFC management seeing Pride newcomers offered buckets of money and hearing that Fedor Emelianenko had signed with another organization, Randy Couture resigned from the UFC and relinqueshed his heavyweight title this week. Randy seems to have plenty else going on for him right now and hopefully though it probably wont be anytime soon he might have an opportunity to face Fedor to determine who the worlds best is.

Showtime TV
By far one of my better purchases was adding Showtime to my Television packages. Now honestly I added showtime just to get the Elite XC mixed martial arts events but I have become hooked on some of their shows in particular Californication and Dexter. Californication has an over the top mix of gratuitous sex and dark twisted humor. Basically the showtime website describes it best;

Famed novelist & NYC transplant Hank relocates to LA after his acclaimed book is optioned, but it later becomes a crappy romantic comedy, which sparks a horrible case of writer's block. He's struggling to get his career back on track with the help of his agent/best friend, raise his pre-teen daughter, all while pining for his ex-girlfriend, who is now engaged to another man. It may sound desperate, but he enjoys life and owns all his various vices — drink, drugs and women — with a refreshing sense of honesty and unapologetic candor. He's holding it together while falling apart, and he doesn't mind it one bit.

Dexter is even more dark and twisted but all the same very entertaining. Basically Dexter is a serial killer but with one difference from most serial killers he lives by a code and kills other killers. He spends his life hiding his dark side from the police officers he works alongside of. Michael C. Hall who was well respected in Six feet under but I really like this show much better.

I have also toyed with other shows on SHowtime including Brotherhood which is essentially an Irish version of the Sopranos and Weeds which deals with a former wife of a DEA agent who sells drugs from her suburban paradise to pay the bills and the trouble she finds on that twisted path.

Weight Watchers
I have been working through my first week on weight watchers and so far it really hasnt been that bad. It is a little extra work for me but I really dont mind to be honest. I weighed in last week at 230 punds which politely means that I am close to 80 pounds overweight at the least, though honestly I cant picture myself getting down to 150 pounds I am definitely going to give it the good old college try. I am using the online tools which is a big help because I can look up food before I eat it and honestly one of my biggest problems is that I have no nutritional sense what so ever. Wish me luck I am going to weigh in on Tuesday so I will let you know how I did for week 1.

I'm a Nike kid
my_clubs (900k image)

Now if you know me this obviously won't come as a surprise. I religiously drag my Nike Core backpack around and think its the best all around backpack for my money seeing as how it does evrything I need. Might help that it has a pouch for everything I carry with me like my iPod. Laptop, and a bunch of electronics as well. I also became a huge fan of the Nike Shox shoes when I got a pair for my birthday. They are super comfortable and as part of the Nike+ line they work for motivating me to hit the road as well. My golf ensemble is all Nike as well. I carry Nike Slingshot cart bag, have a set of Nike Ignite irons SW to 3H, Nike Sumo SQ Driver, Nike SQ 3 and 5 woods and a Mike Unitized Tiempo Putter to top it all off and play Nike Juice Golf Balls when I can find them and One Platinums when I can't.

In the back of my mind I wonder is it marketing? Sure Nike is the king when it comes to promotion. Look what they have done to make icons out of Michael Jordan. Tiger Woods, and Lance Armstrong. Michael and Tiger have even spun off their own lines. I dont think it's my infatuation with any of those guys though I have to admit I have always admired them but probably anyone who follows sposrts does. Could it be they work with one of my other favorite brands Apple? Doubt it though I really like what the Nike+ line of products does and my next purchase will probably be the Nike Amp+ watch because it fills a strong void in the system. So then what is it? I'm guessing my brand loyalty falls back to my personality. Nike makes good products with a youthful edge that typically are strong performers and I am a creature of habit. I know Nike products typically fulfill my needs I purchase them for and therefore am willing to take a risk and try a new one when they come out.

Nike Amp+
nike-amp-plus (68k image)

Nike finally released the Amp+ which serves as a controller for the Nike+ system and a pretty cool looking watch. The LED pattern on the front changes to show the ipod functions and also the time of day. Its a pretty cool mesh of both retro and modern features and has a kido of artsy look to it as well. Its a pretty nifty idea for a remote control and seeing as how I was already a huge fan of the Nike+ system as a motivator to walk every morning I am glad to see this product come to fruition.

Nike SQ Hybrid Irons Set
nike_SQ_hybrids (7k image)

I was looking through the 2008 catalog for Nike Golf the other day and think I found the set of clubs for me. In February Nike is releasing a sumo2 hybrid/iron set with a 4,5,6,7 hybrid and 8,9,P,A which with my newly confirmed 31 handicap should be right up my alley.
