Los Verdes Golf Course
Played Los Verdes on Wednesday and had a great time. Im sure it has to be one of the more picturesque inexpensive public courses around. Its on the back side of the Palos Verdes Penninsula and almost all of the holes have views of the ocean though the back nine was definitely better than the front, possibly because of the fog we played through on the front as well. The facilities were top notch as well and I enjoyed the day immensely.

Halo 3
Well to say I am excited about the Halo 3 release tonight would be rather conservative. I figure it was fate that they are releasing it and the foo fighters new album on the same day, my birthday. Its definitely a good day for me entertainment wise. I am debating whether or not to stand in line tonight or just go and stop by tomorrow but either way it should be a great game as it is ga=etting rave reviews. I was reading on Yahoo that it is getting 9.5 to 10 on all of the websites reviewing it. If I wasn't alreadiy taking Wednesday off to play some golf I would be taking tomorrrow off to play Halo 3...

UFC 76 Knockout?
Well there weren't any knockouts but that doesn't mean there weren't lots of surprises. Although most of the fights went the distance they were all well matched fights maybe even better than most thought. The night started with the lightweights as Tyson Griffin took on Thiago Tavares which was promised and delivered as a tactical matchup. Griffin is a powerhouse at 155 and he delivered surviving Tavares awesome jiu jitsu. Both fighters are strong on their feet as well and this fight was a brawl from the get go. Griffin got the unanimous decision in the end. Ryoto Machida also took out Kazuhiro Nakamura in rather one sided matchup to maintain his undefeated record at 205 pounds. Machida is well known for his victories over BJ Penn and Rich Franklin both of UFC fame. He has been kept on the undercard for most of his fights as he doesnt have the most exciting style but he is going to be hard to keep down as long as he keeps winning. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get handed a top level opponent next time out. Jon Fitch kept doing what he has been doing for a long time and won what I thought was a pretty decisive decision over Diego Sanchez. Fitch had won 14 fights before this matchup and apparently many consider him the top dog at 170 pounds. Honestly he looks like he a middleweight and DIego apparently took notice saying he felt really undersized in this matchup and that he will potentiall drop into the feeding frenzy of the 155 pound division. In the first of the co main events Forrest Griffin took out Mauricio Rua who was atop almost everyones list at 205 pounds. Griffin showed he has taken another step up and easily wona decision over Rua. Griffin who is immensely popular after winning TUF 1 may be close to getting a title shot as this victory erase his loss to Keith Jardine. Speaking off Keith Jardine people were busy forgetting his loss to Houston Alexander as he handled former 205 pound champion Chuck Liddell in dominating fashion. The two stood for the entire fight and Jardine avoided Liddell's trademark striking abusing him with his own exchanges and brutal leg kicks. Liddell was obviously frustrated throughout the fight and honestly I wonder if he doesn't need to look for a new team as his one dimensional attack may not be strong enough to keep him on top. Then again he has accomplished a lot and might take the road to retirement rather than try to learn new tricks. Either way it looks like the fight with Wanderlei Silva planned for December might be back on the shelf again, question is who is going to fight Silva? Im rooting for Forrest but Jardine might also be a great choice especially as it sounds like Rampage Jackson will be out until at least January... All in all it was a good card despite the plethora of decisions.

Apple iPhone Credit
You know the more I deal with them the more I seem to like Apple. I received my $100 credit just had to log onto the website put in my phone number and the serial number and voila got a text message entered that and I had my credit. Promptly turned around and bought the Apple iPhone Bluetooth Headset for $150 after taxes and shipping. I thought to myself that this was really a great move on apples part. Hey as any early innovator knows price adjustments are the norm in technology but Jobs forgot hes in the consumer business not just the tech business so he throws everyone a $100 credit to the apple store and I bet you the majority of prople do as i did and spend more than $100 so hes driving some new business and placating the whiny masses. Thats what makes Apple great they believe in the Win Win deal.

Open Letter to the International Fight League
I was reading the article on Sherdog where they discuss the fate of the IFL financially and things sure dont sound good. I am guessing that unless something dramatic changes that you will shutter the enterprise. When you started with this comcept I prersonally wasnt sure about the whole team idea but now have grown to like it.

The problem is all of there shows are tape delayed. I cant get excited for something that took place weeks or months ago. I think this is the root of the IFL's failure. Put the actual events on live tv. Hell if production costs are weighing you down pick a base of operations run all your shows from there to cut down some of the other costs and run with the ball. More people will want to watch your product if its live and then they will talk about the fights and people will watch the reruns in your nicely produced show.

I was thrilled to hear about the IFL Grand Prix. Air it live! You'll see your ratings triple. You've built up some solid fighters who people want to follow like Ben Rothwell, Chris Horodecki, and Bart Palaszewski for example.

Heres another suggestion. Make the Grand Prix just that its a Grand Prix. Dont make individual champions out of it. Murilo Rua became a star after winning the Pride Grand Prix and he has yet to become a champion and still is considered the best fighter at 205. Individual Champions will just confuse your product, confuse the way you present and schedule the fighters down the road. Keep it simple! The Grand Prix champions will be just that, Grand Prix champions! It waould be akin to the MVP in other sports. Don't muddle between a team and an individual sport. You decided you wanted a team based product so stick to it. Air your events live and you will see that the fans support you and consequently the advertisers will support you. I honestly believe you are good for the sport and you treat your fighters in a way that regular promoters can't. Your model has some promise you just need to get it into another gear!

Mark Ecko is my hero
Mind you I hate Bonds. I am a Dodger fan so I am supposed to. Below you can see what I voted Mark Ecko should do with homerun 756 ball!

Helio Ocean without the Helio for AT&T
pantech_dual_slider (631k image)

I know my daughter is going to go crazy for this phone. She was very excited when she saw the Helio Ocean and was rather upset when I explained to her I wasnt going to let her change carriers. The AT&T version runs on the 3G HSDPA network, has Windows Mobile 6 as its operating system, has 1.3 megapixel camera and looks like a pretty solid phone.

I though the Trojan's tribute to Mario was awesome. Mario was really well thought of in Pedro a humble hero. Heres the video if you missed it.

Lobsterfest
After having lived in Pedro for many years I finally caught the lobsterfest. While I can see why people get worked up about the fest it was 8.00 yo get in and a lobster plate with a full lobster was 17.00 it wasnt anything super amazing for me. In fact I enjoyed splitting a lobster with my buddy as an appetizer and then had a sandwich from Silvio's Brazilizn BBQ for my meal. There were tons of cool booths and live bands. All in all it was a cool experience.

MIO C220 GPS System
mioC220 (91k image)

As GPS Systems seem to be getting more and more features they seem to not be going down in price. I have been looking for a bargain GPS hoping to get just navigation since I dont need the other bells and whistles that many are offering. The MIO c220 offers exactly what I was looking for just the basics and a cheap price tag at $179.00 I tried out a GPS System but at $400 it was just too much price for what I really wanted it for. Might have to pick up one for my Birthday if I can get over my xBox withdrawals.

UFC 75
Well I was able to catch the fights on Spike tonight. The fights to me lived up to the hype. Rampage won a close decision over Dan Henderson in the unification bout that went the whole five rounds and was a seesaw fight. The decision I didn't agree with was the split decision victory that was given to Bisping over Hammil. I felt Hammil dominated all three rounds but as they say don't let the judges devise the fight ss something like this could happen. In another surprise Cheock Kongo won a decision over Mirko Crokopf. Marcus Davis salvaged a win by armbar after getting his bell rung. Houston Alexander proved his win over Keith Jarding was no fluke by taking out tough Alessio Sakkara in the first round. All in all it was a great night of fights much better than previous overseas efforts by the UFC.

Plus you can chhose from a Titleist Driver or Scotty Cameron custom fit putter, $300 gift card, or the Pinehurst #2 Centennial Experience (Caddy and gratuity included). The prices range depending on season for Fall which is September 6 to October 20 its $976 per person double occupancy and $1268 single occupancy. Steve Jobs is making nice to early iPhone buyers
Sure the news that Apple was dropping the price of the iPhone to $399 afterinitially selling it for $599 was a lil hard to swallow, though honestly it is still the best phone out there as far as I am concerned. Apparently Apple has heard the gripe and in an open letter to iPhone owners Steve says that Apple will be offering a $100 store credit for any apple retail store or the online store. The details are being worked out. Sounds like if I qualify I might be getting the bluetooth headset I have been looking forward to....

Apple's Big Announcement
Well the bug announcement was today and while there were some bug ones I was disappointed to not hear that iChat for the iPhone was not one of them. Apple started with its entire line of iPods and revamped them. The shuffle is still 1 gb and all but the colors were changed. The nano has a completely new body and comes in 4gb and 8gb model;s which now have all of the functionality of the iPod video and runs $149 and $199 respectively. The iPod video is now officially called the iPod Classic and comes in 80gb and 160gb versions and costs $249 and $349 between the two of them. The final addition is the iPod touch which is essenrially the iPhone without the phone shouldn't that make it the i?Anyways it comes in 8gb and 16gb models and has wifi to boot. On top of the hardware announcement Apple did have some software announcements as all of us iPhone owners will be able to create custom ring tones for 99 cents each. Apple will also be rolling out a wifi iTune store so you can by music on the fly and coming soon they will be partnering with Starbucks on a special service where you cam browse the music that is playing in the store and purchase it from your device as well. Pretty cool stuff but I still want my iChat.

WEC
I only caught part of the WEC card I'll catch it tomorrow for sure but I did see the two title fights. They were definitely good fights for the champs as they both retained their titles as Chase Beebe won a dominant decision and Rob McCullough knocked out his opponent in the first round. I am really impressed with the product that the WEC has become and even though it has that stupid Tapout show I am pulling for the Versus network.

Will Phil play next week after beating Tiger today?
golf_phil_tiger (61k image)

I turned on the Deutsche Bank tournament today and in fact it was exactly as the PGA could have asked. Tiger and Phil playing in rhe same group battling for the tournament at TPC Boston. I was captivated and watched the tourney through the end of their round. I had read that all the tournaments where Tiger has a shot in the final roind get great viewership and if he doesnt you can ear the crickets sing. The PGA has the same opportunity next week as Phil and Tiger would be paired together during the first 2 rounds as long as Phil plays which could be up in the air as he said in an interview after the tournament that he felt he should play but he had asked for some things in the Fed Ex Cup and none of them were enacted so he doesnt feel particularly obligated to play. Should make things interesting this week.

San Francisco
Went up North with the family for a weekend trip. My sister in law lives in Richmond so she invited us up. Turns out the Bay Bridge was closed for repairs from Friday evening to Sunday morning so it made getting to things a little more complicated but still no big deal. On Friday we wandered around China Town and Little Italy. Ate luch at a pretty hip resturaunt called Pan Ta Rei. It was pretty decent Italian food and I had a nice seafood pasta and those little cream filled pastries for dessert. On Saturday I fulfilled a lifelong dream when I went to Alcatraz and got my picture taken in one of the cells. Its a thing from when I was a kid but I always wanted to do it. We also toured Angel Island in the Harbor whic housed a couple of forst and an old chinese immigration station. All in all a very interesting day. Sunday we drove down taking the 1 and boy it was a beautiful drive but took forever. Problem is once you comit you comit. We did the 17 mile drive around Pebble Beach which was beautiful. As a golfer I am not sure if I was more excited to see the course or all of the other beautiful sights. The Champions Tour was having an event there so it was cool. After 15 hours of plugging away we made it back home.

Nike golf
Well I think I finally got my golf bag together how I want it. I picked up a Nike SQ Sumo Driver, which makes a really strange noise when I hit it. I also picked a Sumo 3wood and 5wood which I was hitting as well as my old driver. To top things off I upgraded from a Nike Ignite Blade style to a Nike Unitized Tiempo which is unique in that the putter is all one piece in other words no seperate shaft which adds increased feel. I know i am throwing all my eggs in the Nike basket but so far I am really happy with the clubs I have.
