Saints Row
I got a xBox 360 for my birthday and the first game I got for the console is Saint's Row which though I just barely started playing is a blast so far. The prmise of the game is that you are a gangster and you need to build up a reputation so you can start taking over other gangs turf. I have only taken the first little patch over and now I have to build my rep again so that I can take over more. The gang stuff is what I magine hokey Chicago would be like though some of the scenes seem reflective of Los Angeles as well. Its definitely an adult themed game with lots of violence crime and sexual connentations.

The Graffiti Sistine Chapel
Now when I first saw this on The 9 I was not expecting it to be as earnest an artistic endeavor as it turned out to be. Paco Rosic is a graffiti artist originally from Sarajevo who has since transplanted to Waterloo Iowa where ha practices his art and has started to recreate the sistine chapel in spray paint. The homepage of his site has a cool video of his project.

UFC 63
Well once again the UFC put on a great show or better yet I should say the mma gods smiled on us and made it an exciting night. After watching the event a better title would have been proving grounds. Matt Hughes was able to prove he truly is the best at 170 pounds despite BJ Penn having taken it to him the first two rounds only to gas. Im begining to believe that the secret to success against BJ Penn is just surviving the initial two rounds to have easy pickings in the third. To those who say BJ didnt train remember he lasted twice as long for this one as he did against George St Pierre. Mike Swick proved he was for real against David Loiseau by dominating the first two rounds and surviving the third to win a unanimous decision. Swick is now a real contender at 185 and it should be interesting how the UFC handles him, Im hoping they dont give him a shot yet because I feel in my heart he needs a little more tuning befor he takes that step. Rather I'd like to see him rematch Chris Leben which would be a good test for him and would be a good sell as well. Rashad Evans proved himself against Jason Lambert finally finishing a fight with his superior conditioning and some much better striking. I believe Rashad is well on his way to being a contender much like Josh Koschek will get better as he learns the game. Melvin Guillard was outstanding again at 155 as he took it to Gabe Ruediger with his amazing athleticism and as a member of Team Punishment he should continue to grow. I wouldn't be surprised to see him fighting for the strap at 155 sometime soon. The one surprise of the night was Joe "Jlau" Lauzon's, god does he need another nickname, domination of Jens Pulver. Lauzon stopped the former lightweight champion in 48 seconds of the first round. Makes you wonder if Jens will give up his flashy game and start ground and pounding as he did to domination his last time in the UFC. Really had to respect how Jens took the defeat though as he refused to make any excuses for himself and was quick to say Lauzon was the better man that night.

Latin Sayings
I always thought my clans saying "Timor Omnis Abesto" which translates to "Let Fear Always be Far" was one of the cooler Latin sayings and then I was watching Miami Ink last week and saw a girl got tattooed with "Illegitimi Non Carborundum" which translates to "Dont let the Bastards Grind You Down". Now honestly I havent checked that the translation fits but it looks right.

silversun pickups
Iwas watching the current network and they had a pod on a band from silverlake district silversun pickups. They are an upcoming band but more interesting to me was the strong connection to alternative music. The spaceland club has hosted beck, the white stripes, to name just a few. I was surprised to see how much home prices have gone up in silverlake which I always imagine as in becks guero song.

Blackberry 7130e
I know this is an older phone and being a Treo fan I figured that I was just never going to like a blackberry but finally I have found one I like. The 7130 is the smaller form factor blackberry, though now that the pearl is coming not for long. It doesnt have a seperate key for each letter but much like typing on the smaller keypads of cell phone you can utilize a double tap to sort through letters so it is really not that inconvenient. I like the features of the phone and have enjoyed it thoroughly the last couple of days I have been using it. The design is much more phone centric than the Blackberry 7250 I had been carrying around for the past couple of months.

Pride Final Conflict
Wow the show tonight was tough. The semifinals and finals of the open weight grand prix was great. I was really pleased to see Cro Cop win it all. I just hope he didnt mess up Wanderli Silva so that he wont be able to fight in November against Chuck Liddell. I was impressed with Josh Barnett especially in his win over Nog. Silva looked completely overwhelmed in the other semi as Cro Cop rolled through him. Murillo Ninja won his comeback fight after breaking his arm against Mark Coleman and Ricardo Arona won his fight against Alistair Overeem. It was a great show and I am looking forward to the show coming to the states but have to imagine the rules will completely change the product.

Apple Newton
You know despite the success of the iPod and Mac another great faikure/success was the Newton which was one of the first PDA's to hit the market but despite its plethora of functions and abilities which still aren't matched it was a device that came before it's time and ended up getting discontinued. However Newton fanboys fail to give up on the device and have kept surviving devices alive and continue to develop software for it. I have always wondered with the success of the iPod why Apple didn't try to resuscitate the newton and rumors abound that they mat have done just that merging the ipod, a cell phone, and a newton into an iPhone. Now I am not sure how much to buy into this other than there are some patents filed by Apple to indicate that this is indeed coming down the pipe. With Tuesday's upcoming announcements at Apple's showtime event, movies on iTunes ssound like a sure bet, there is speculation the iPhone will be announced as well. Should be interesting on Tuesday!

Hostels
I was wondering around the web and found a mention of the surf city hostel in Hermosa Beach so I decided to check out the Hostel situation in So Cal. I found hostels.com which allows you to book accomodations around the world. Most of the places cost around $20 a night and have accomodations that rival hotels but are naturally focused towards youth.

Plantronics 640
I never thought I would switch from my Motorola HS850 Bluetooth handset. It always worked great but today I made the jump to the Plantronics 640 which bills itself as the ultimate bluetooth headset. It might just the first advantage it had was I could pair two phones to it at a time. Considering I constantly carry two,one personal and one for work this was big. Second nicety which helped sell me was that you can use major cell manufacturers chargers with it so I can charge it with my razr car charger if I want or need. Lastly which might actually fall under the second nicety but I'll seperate it is that it comes with a clip on, which is also the charger that comes with a AAA battery attachment so you can chareg the headset off the batter for additional talk time. I haven't been this excited about an accessory since I got my gyration keyboard and mouse.

Blackberry Pearl
blackberry-pearl (16k image)

Well it looks like Blackberry has gone through some sort of renaissance after I checked out there newest handset the Blackberry Pearl. The Pearl looks slimmer than any of the newer Blackberry handsets , it is comparable in size to a closed razr!, offers a 1.3 megapixel camera, SD card support, and forgoes the standard trackwheel for a trackball. The product itself is much sexier than anything else that Blackberry has put out and I can only hope they come out with one for Verizon someday, though right now it is exclusive through t-mobile.

Annual Credit Reports for Free?
I know I had always heard that you could get copies of your credit reports for free but it seemed that whenever I tried to get one I had to sign up for some credit monitoring service. Well today a friend turned me on to Annualcreditreport.com where you can get a 3 bureau report which you can then print. No services to sign up for, though they are offered. Its a great site.

Steve Irwin
You know it was weird this week hearing that Steve Irwin the infamous Crocodile Hunter had died. At first I was surprised and then I wasn't. Here was a guy who was literally in the face of death all the time. From crocodiles to snakes to just about any kind of animal he would get in its face to bring it to us. I have to admit I always thought he would continue to be there to show us great things in the wild. The fact that he was killed bya stingray was odd but hey he knew he took risks and obviously enjoyed and had come to grips with the fact that one day something could go wrong and he could die. I feel for his family especially his wife Terri who is left to raise her two small children. Its a shame he had to go but he was doing what he loved and his shows brought me a lot of personal enjoyment, even though I'd wince everytime a snake would almost get him. He did a lot for our world and to bring animals in a positive light and for that he will be remembered.

My old Schwinn Cruiser
schwinn_cruiser (31k image)
I dont know why but all of a sudden I got a rush of sentiment for my old schwinn cruiser I had in 7th grade. It was a beauty and had a paint scheme similar to the one above except I had the 5 speed version. I have been casually looking around for one but doubt I will come across one like it. The rootbeer paint makes it kind of rare from what I understand. Update This bike sold for $440.00 on an EBay auction got any old cruisers in your garage? The people who auctioned this bought it ata Garage sale and just put new tires on it. Think I'll get me a cruiser new at the shop you can get a single speed new for $220.00

SC Back Rolling Again
Well he post Reggie and Matt era began today as USC tarveled to Arkansas for what was potentially a dangerous game for them. Arkansas was still pissed about SC's 70-17 romping last year. Well fortunately for SC fans the trojans were able to get it rolling with some turnovers from Arkansas and rolled to a 50-17 win. Maybe the drop off wont be that huge afterall especiall considering that when we lost Carson Palmer to the pros Matt stepped in and took right over maybe the great history of SC will continue.
