UFC 44
Wow, this was an awesome pay per view as it finally cleared up a lot of areas of doubt in the UFC as well as the light heavyweight division. Randy Couture prioved he is the man to beat by handling Tito Ortiz for all five rounds and becoming the undisputed champion of the light heavyweight division. This is by far the strongest division in the UFC as not only do Couture, Ortiz, and Liddell sit atop the rankings, Rich Franklin handled his opponent in decisive fashion making a strong argument for himself as did Vitor Belfort at UFC 43. In the heavyweight division Tim Sylvia defended against another giant Gan McGee knocking him out shortly into the first round. I had my doubts about Sylvia but he seems to have made his claim as champion legitimate now with this victory. Andrei Arlovsky staked his claim as a ontender easily handling Matyushenko by ko in the first round. Nick Diaz beat Jeremy Jackson in a rubber match between the two, nothing kinky now theyve just beat each other once each, by submission in the third round by armbar. Karo Parisyan proved to be really entertaining in his defeat of Dave Strasser but with two losses to Sean Sherk I would hold off on throwing him in with Matt Hughes anytime soon. Jorge Rivera beat David Loiseau in another key matchup at Middleweight. Some of the biggest news though may be when they had on Pride rep who said they would be sending Sakuraba over to fight in the UFC. This legend seems to need a change of location and maybe Bustamante would come back to take on a legend of Sakurabas stature. In a dark match Kaol Uno was knocked out by Hermes Franco throwing the lightweight class into further disarray. All in all it was a great show with some very entertaining fights. I look forward to the continued teaming of Pride and UFC which seems to be the best thing for the sport as a whole.

Midnight Club II
Well I have found a new PS2 addiction in the form of Midnight Club II. I had originally heard that the game was not that good but I dont know who gave it that review because I sure as heck am hooked on it. The game features street racing in a vasriety of forms, against a variety of opponents, in three differnet cities. First you start in Los Angeles and race your wat to be the city championship beating a racer named dice. Along the way you get help from a couple of the characters you beat namely Moses and Gina. After beating a variety of racers in Los Angeles you move on to Paris where you take on greater challenges and learn a new city. The cities are very realistic allthough the damage you take to your car isn't, Thank God. Hollywood Video is making a mint on me since I rented the game because of aforementioned bad review and haven't want to return it. Anyways I'll let you know when i finally get through it all.

David Blaine
Well I can say that I am truly amazed by this guys brand of magic. I watched a special on David Blaine yesterday on TLC and I was just shocked. This guys street magic is really cool. Now I understand that he is sitting in a box over a river in England as we speak but what i am most interested in is reading his book. The book even features a contest to win or better yet a challenge to take.

DeLaHoya vrs Mosely
Well boxing has anothe debacle on its hands after this one. I wathed the pay per view at a friends house and was really disappointed in the outcome. I thought DeLaHoya held Mosely at bay for the entire fight and felt he did what was needed to win it. He jabbed Mosely and seemingly kept him at bay just as he had planned to the point that even Mosely's corner was telling him that he was behing and to try and knock Oscar out, despite their later statements that we had taken it out of context.

Then I started to think about it. All during the fight we had been led to believe that Oscar was doing what needed to be done by the ringside announcer who was obviously very impressed by what Oscar was doing and not by what Mosely was or was not. However I do believe that Mosely caused more damage to Oscar who looked like he might go down at several different points in the bout, and consequently that may have been what the judges voted on.

Im really not sure how this will play out. I agree with the anoouncer who said he didn't believe the decision will be overturned because it would open a huge can of worms for the commision. I am also suspect of George Foreman who thought it was a conspiracy against Arum for having taken some fights out of Las Vegas and to Los Angeles, but he does know more abouth the behind the scenes action we all hear of.

I would love to go back and watch the fight without any of the commentary and see if I would see it differently. I wonder if the announcer didn't lead us to a conclusion that could have been not as onesided as we thought.

Jury Duty
Well I havent had a chance to post since I finished jury duty so now that I can talk about the case I figured I would fill you guys in. First off the details of the case. Essentially what happened was a female was turning left on a green light and a police officer who was rolling code ran into her. It was on Rosecrans where the Cosco is if you were wondering.

Well to start things off I actually should go back further, beyond the jury duty even. I have always been one of those guys who when he got a jury summons would throw it away. Now that the county is on a one day system they have a far greater need for ptential jurors since if you go for one day and dont get in jry selection you are done for a year. So I get a second summons saying that I missed my date and face penalties if I dont make a new time to do my duty. So finally I go to the court and set up my day 8/19.

On 8/19 I show up and they really have gone out of their way at Torrance to make jurors feel comfortable. The jurors area really was quite nice. So we were entertained b the jurors coordinator who was funny as all hell. Then we proceeded to sit around until 2:30. Now Im thinking I have it made since they have called out several juries already and it is getting o be towrds the end of the day. Bam they call for 55 jurors for division D on the third floor for a civil case.

Im thinking okay this will be cool theres 55 and I am towards the end of the list. So i was sitting there rading my magazine and the judge talked to all of the potential jurors who needed to be dismissed prior to the attorneys starting and I would guess there were nearly 5. I figured they wouldn't get to me as I was like 51 of the 55. Well as you know hey got to me and two days later they had gone through the 55 and another 15 or so before they named the jury, I was juror number 9. I really had tried to get thrown off. I told them I had medical experience, since they had trowna nurse off and talked about my security experience, since one of the parties was a police officer. No such luck.

The trial started and I realised it didn't matter what happened as both sides had expert witnesses who said one side was right and the other wrong. It was actually frustrating as you couldn't be sure who to believe. The actual witness who probably was the most key to the case was the one non professional witness and i was a lady who corroborated one of the sides version of the events to push the advantage to their side.

In the end we decided the lady was at fault for the accident. She had been seeking 1.2 million because she lost abusiness and figured she would have lifelng back pain. The police officer had asked for 375 k for his knee injury and potential knee replacement. The city had asked for 10 k for the damage to the police car a the work comp fees. We decide the only one with a right to damages was the city.

Giant Revive
Giant Revive

The new Revive by Giant is turning heads and changing opinions everywhere it goes. Dubbed the ultimate comfort bike, it puts the rider in an ergonomically correct position that takes pressure off the hands, shoulders, neck, back and bottom.

Sounds almost like it is too comfortable to provide exercise.

Verizon Push to Talk
Verizon Wireless Push to Talk is a competitive service to Nextel's direct connect radio service, or at least Verizon claims it is. I am really looking forward to getting my hands on one of these to see if it stands up to Nextel. The Verizon version uses voip, or voice over IP and sounds similar to instant messaging in that you can see if a contact is on line or not. If the phones are a small as they appear to be it may also provide a competitive edge to the phones nextel offers.
