UFC 39
Wow what can I say about Ricco Rodriguez. I have been a fan of his saying he looked to be shaping up to be a heavyweight version of Tito and he proved it tonight taking out Randy Couture in the fifth In other notes BJ Penn defeated Matt Serra to go on to the lightweight championship against Karo Uno who beat Din Thomas with the ground and pound taking a unanimous decision. There were a few other exciting fights as Phil Baroni walked through Dave Menne in the first round, Gan McGee a 6 foot 10 inch fighter who trains with Chuck Liddel beat Pedro Rizzo who couldn't continue after the first round. Sean Sherk continues to look tough as he took it to Benji Radach and should be getting a shot In the sloppiest fight which I was disappointed watching for its lack of sportsmanship was Tim Sylvia defeated Wes Correira who calls himself cabbage and he didn't perform much better than his namesake would have. He took way too much punishment and kept throwing back but the fat boy needs to shed some pounds if he has any mental faculties after tonights battle.

De Colores
Yeterday was awesome spiritually for me. I am going to be a catechist at my, or one of my, local churches and yesterday we had our orientation. The priest gave an awesome speach on the models of the church and how each person has a different interpretation of what the church means to them. We then discussed our year schedule. They also gave us a catechism book in a very nice ceremony. Then last night I went to an Ultreya in San Fernando and talked about what Cursillo has meant to me. It went really well and everyone seemed to like my talk. It was an awesome day!

Pride FC Shockwave
Wopw what a huge spectacular. This was like a superbowl of mixed martiak arts with the way it was played up. There were 91,000 fans at this show. The fights were great as well. The first fight of the night Vanderlei Silva defeated Tatsuya Iwasaki by TKO. This was a quick fight as Silva backed his opponent into a corner and beat him down. The second match was more interesting as Jerrell Venetiaan defeated Daijiro Matsui by Decision. Now I know a decision wouldn't normally be that exciting but Venetian who is a stand up K-1 guy fought Matsui in a Pride style fight and was able to escape when taken down. I would like to see Venetian fight more in Pride. The only reason this match was a split decision is because Matsui is Japanese as there was no was a reasonable person saw him winning this fight. In the third fight Gary Goodridge defeated Lloyd Van Dams by TKO in the first round. In this Pride style fight Van Dams proved he couldn't handle the ground game. Once Goodridge took him down there was nothing Van Dams did other than cheat, he fishhooked Goodridge a couple of times! In the first K-1 style fight of the night Ernesto Hoost drew with Semmy Schilt. I dont see how Sammy didn't get the nod here but hey they probably didn't want to hurt Hoost's feelings as he is a legend in K-1. In the next fight again K-1 style Jerome LeBanner defeated Don Frye by KO. In fact this was a little scary as Le Banner really rocked Frye which one doesn't see often. It was nice to se Le Banner's concern as Frye was slow getting up. In the best match of the night in my opinion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira defeated Bob Sapp by Submission. I didn't think Minitauro was going to survive Sapp's bombs but he did and these two guys went round and round the whole fight. In the most overhyped and frustrating match of the night Hidehiko Yoshida defeated Royce Gracie by Technical Submission which can be loosely translated as referee screw up. Royce didn't tap and he wasn't out but the ref stopped the fight and awarded the fight to Yoshida. In the main event Mirko "Cro-Cop" Filipovic defeated Kazushi Sakuraba when Sakuraba couldn't continue after getting beat down for two rounds. Makes you wonder how long the japanese will treat this guy as a demigod when he cant survive any of his matches. Overall it was a great show though and was really entertaining.
