Safari on Windows
I have been playong around with Safari the Apple web browser that is in public beta release now. So far it seems to be just another browser but I intend to find out some of its better tricks. I am strongly considering getting an iMac for home. I am very impressed with the new models and like the pricepoint. Besides Safari also included in the download is Bon Jour which allows devices to configutr themselves and announce their presence on the local network. It is a very powerful solution from what I have been told and I am anxious to see how it works on Windows. In other Apple news Steve Jobs is having an announcement on September 5th and I hope he finally announces iChat for my iPhone but iSuspect that it is the new iPod from what the rumormills have been tossing around.

UFC 74 Undercard
Well after I watched the main ppv on Sunday and realizing that the undercard had some pretty solid matchups I watched the undercard this morning. The Clay Guida vrs Marcus Aurelio fight was a solid fight though the judge who scored it for Aurelio must have switched his scores around as there was no way anyone saw Guida losing that fight. Guida is a ball of energy who ought to have the nickname energizer bunny.

In another prelim Frank Mir announced his return with a big I'm back by tapping out Antoni Hardonk though I'm not so sure. Mir finished Hardonk quickly in Mir fashion but Hardonk has no ground game so once he got it to the ground it was easy pickings. I'd like to see Mir take on some stiffer competition maybe a Heath Herring or someone who isnt going to fold so quickly on the mat.

In the fight that has been causing all sorts of controversy Renato Sobral took out David Heath in decisive fashion though apparently some words had been shared during the week and when Sobral caught Heath in the final annaconda choke to which Heath tapped he held it and the Mazagati told him to break it and he held it all in all maybe an extra few seconds to send a message but it didnt go over well with the crowd and Rogan emphasized it heavily. To me it was long but I dont think it was so long it was dangerous or anything though it is bad for the sport's image.

UFC 74
While I was at my good friends wedding last night UFC 74 was taking place in Las Vegas. You know you have to be a great friend for me to miss a UFC.

The pay per view started off with Patrick Cote taking on Kendall Grove. Grove used his hieght advantage to make life dificult for Patrick who has been known for his less than stellar UFC record though I always remember when he was the next big thing from Canada not GSP. The two fighters clenched up a lot and had some brief exchanges and then Grove threw a rough looking knee and Cote responded with a hook that took Grove down. Cote jumped on Grove took his back and tried to finish him with a rear naked choke to no avail finally just pounding out the stoppage.

Joe Stevenson and Kurt Pellegrino had a three round battle of back and forth see saw action which finally saw Stevenson distance himself with his conditioning in the third round where he just punished Pellgrino with his notorious ground and pound to take a unanimous decision.

Roger Huerta was given a tough assignment with BJJ world champion Alberto Crane. Huerta it could be argued is one of the faster rising stars of the UFC. He has won all four of his fights this year and was the first MMA fighter to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated. Huerta really did prove himself in this match as he was rolling with Crane on the ground against the various dangerous Crane but he punished Crane with some viscious shots every chance he got. It was obvious by the end of the second round that he didn't have the gas tank that Huerta did as Crane looked like he could barely stand. Crane did take Huerta's back and Huerta used the big screen to aim his shots behind him which helped him stop a beatdown Alberto Crane in the third round.

Next up was the co main event with George St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck. I hadnt realized that GSP has moved to Jackson's camp in New Mexico, sure I knew he had been training there but not that he had made it his camp. Wonder if Diego minds that? Both are top tier at 170 but GSP is well liked and Koscheck is not. Surprisingly GSP came out and took Koscheck down and laid some pretty solid ground and pound. Kos reversed the positions after grabbing a leg and using it to get a single leg takedown but GSP was much busier from the bottom. They flashed to Diego in the break between rounds and boy did he look pissed talk about someone who hates Kos. Second round GSP took Kos down again and this time was really working for submissions from the half guard and then side control and then worked most of the round for a Kimura. The third round was much more of a standup affair until Kos went for a single he didn't get. From then on GSP dominated by ground and pound to a solid decision victory. GSP even threw in a plug for an event in Montreal.

Next up was the main event as Gabriel Gonzaga versus Randy Couture. Randy did what Randy does best his clinch work and dirty boxing were great but the big moment came when Randy took Gabriel down and their heads came together breaking Gonzagas nose. Gonzaga was bleeding and breathing heavy fron that point on. Rounds 1 and 2 were pretty much all Couture. In the third Gonzaga came out and threw a big head kick which Couture shrugged and then another he took and shrugged off throwing Gonzaga back in his infamous clinch and then down to the ground where he got the stoppage. Honestly I am not sure it would have turned out any different even without the broken nose.

The card was solid all of the fights were strong and I enjoyed it I am really looking forward to what is the begining of avery busy month. Tuf looks absolutely crazy this time around. On September 8th we have the UFC 75 card from England with Jackson vr.s Henderson and Bisping vrs. Hammil. Then we have the Ultimate Fight Night event on September 19th. Then on September 22nd we have UFC 76 which is headlined by Liddel Jardine.

Walk Score
Well I tell you this probably wont catch fire but theres a website that will help you determine how walkable a neighborhood is before you move into it. WalkScore.com uses google maps to calculate how many of your chores you could complete within walking distance of your residence. Pretty interesting concept but there were some serious pitfalls that they bring up like it calculates distances straight line i.e. not the actual walking distance rather but if you could fly directly to the target.

Two local heros make good on their reputations!
Today was an interesting day for two local heros. First off Reggie the Alligator broke out of his pen in the LA Zoo and was found several hours later at a loading dock I'm betting trying to get aboard a truck headed to Harbor City. He was returned to quarantine while they reinforced his new quarters and then returned to his fancy digs.

Our other local hero David Beckham got a chance to finally play his real game as he scored on a free kick that was clasic Beckham and he provided the assist to Landon Donovan on the Galxy's other goal as they moved on to the finals of the Superliga where they will face Pachuca whom they defeated once in the group stage.

Nike Amp+ watch
nikeAmp+ (22k image)

Recently appearing on the FCC website, the Amp+ gives you normal iPod nano controls along with a scrolling LED that displays information on your Nike+iPod running status.

Seeing as how I am completely addicted to both Nike and Apple products I will probably explode when I put this thing on but it would be nice to have a Nike+ remothe control when I am doing my workout. At 80.00 its still a good value as it is a cool watch ipod and nike+ remote. I have just started regularly working out with the Nike+ kit and it really is a great motivator. Afetr my walk today lance Armstrong congratulated me on completing my longest workout.

Macally mSleeve
Macally_mSleeve (18k image)

I have been searching for just the right case for my iPhone and I thin I may have finally found it. The Macally mSleeve is a simple protective case that envelopes your phone in leather using am interesting design to snugly protects its valuable cargo. Im biased towards a case that will both hold the phone and not snag in ones pocket. A lot like a front pocket holster...

LA Invasion
Well finally after many years of having to suffer out in Devore KROQ finally moved their late summer concert from the 909 to Carson and the Home Depot Center. The lineup is an interesting mix with Smashing Pumpkins, The Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver, Kid Rock, Chris Cornell, Cyprus Hill, Parry Farrell's Satelite Party, Hot Hot Heat, Against Me and Parrymore. Its great for me because its about 20 minutes from my house on my old college campus CSUDH, and I dont have to deal with that dust bowl known as Devore! KROQ always put together a good show and invasion is always one of their more eclectic offerings.

RIP LAC-MLK
Well the final nail was driven into the casket Friday as MLK was refused accreditation once again leaving LA County no choice but to close the famous medical center in South Central LA. Im sure poor Kenny Hahn would be turning in his grave if he knew what had become of his onced beloved Medical Centers Daniel Freeman and MLK. Its a shame because given the resources that MLK had it should have been an example of what a medical center should be not of what it shouldn't. The constant mismanagement has put the citizens of LA County at an even greater risk as MLK was one of our few remaining Trauma Centers. The Department of Health Services feels like someone will want to take over the facility and reopen it as a private entity which sounds a lot like wishful thinking to me but we shall see.

Drifting and Rallying - Tanner Foust
Let me tell you that I dont understand why drifting isn't an X-games sport. It sertainly makes sense as one and hell this year they had an asian x-games where drifting would have made definite sense, donr get me wrong I love rallying as well the two make up my favorite racing sports. Well as I was checking out the drifting and in particular 350z drift cars I came upon Tyler Foust. Talk about a lucky dog the guy races in both Rally America and Formula D. Not only does he do well in both series, he's in first in the standings in Formula D and fourth in Rally America, he is also the host of import racers on ESPN and Redline TV on Speed Channel. Did I mention he won the x-games gold last weekend?

RIP xBox 360
Well I finally have gamed my xbox into submission and it has given up the fight. Not sure what component finally died it goes well for a few minutes then all of a sudden makes a crackling sound and comes to a screeching halt. Pisses me off because when I originally bought my xbox I had a couple of weeks of the disk not reading so I brought that one back and got this one. Maybe they'll come out with games for the ipod to tide me over.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR
2006LancerEvolutionMR (11k image)

Talk about a straight up ready to fly car Im a big fan of the Lancer Evolution MR which was built to fly. At first I was pretty pumped about the Sunaru WRX but the Evo looks to be king. The car is not only tricked out on the outside with sharp looking body kit, racing wheels, and brenbo anti-lock brakes but on the inside it has alluminum pedals, recaro seats, and momo steering wheel.

UFC Video Game by THQ
Well I was browsing around looking for any sings of life the UFC Video Game might still be in the works. The video for the game looks awesome but it is with a bit of a caveat as its not actual gameplay rather a basic trailer of Chuck and Page knocking the snot out of each other.

Hopefully they will announce a release date soon.

New iMac announced
imac (53k image)

Well Jobs didn't announce my new iChat app for my iPhone it was a Mac day and in particular a redesign of the iMac. The new iMac is definitely a much sleeker animal. Its still got the Leno chin as engadget describes it but it is much thinner.

After watching the presentation online I am very impressed at what you get for 1199.00! The model has the 20" panel, 2.0ghz intel core duo, 1GB ram, 250GB hard drive all decent specs for an all in one. Mac is making it tough for me to stay a pc guy.

I am curious to see with Apple on a kick to make their devices earth friendly by making the components of aluminum and glass, how long will it be before we see the mac book upgraded accordingly. Hmmm?

WEC
The WEC fights couldn't have come at a better time for me as I was midway through some serious UFC withdrawals. Honestly though I am really starting to like the WEC as much as I like UFC. I was really excited to see Paulo Filho who ran through the 185 pound class there and he started off taking the 185 pound strap by taking out Joe Doerkson by TKO in the first round. The fight was surprising as Filho is a super jiu jitsu practitioner with some viscious ground and pound but Doerkson wouldn't be taken down. So Filho gave up on his gameplan and threw some wild punches catching Doerkson and winning by referee stoppage. In the other big match Carlos Condit submitted Brock Larson to retain his 170 pound title.

Aim for iPhone
Well while I not so patiently wait for a real aim client for the iPhone I have found a pretty good substitute for the mean time with Mundu. Its actually a web application but it runs really well and other than I got dropped once tonight it seems pretty much like using aim. While it doesnt have the option of alerting you with noise or using it outside a web session it is pretty strong and I like the interface which is more like iPhones sms with different colors for each side of a conversation.

One of the things I like most about the Current Network is that it covers urban artists like Justin Bua. Bua is an urban artist and professor at USC and his art is both classical and graffiti edged at the same time.

Software that impacts my life
I was thinking about this today, and have recently and really there are only two applicatins that I think are really an important part of my daily life. iTunes and Outlook have to be those two applications. Sure you could count windows cuz I wouldnt be able to get to either without it but I dont really consider that an application. Outlook basically runs my life for me and iTunes basically lets me entertain myself. I think that is what makes the iPhone so powerful is that basically it combines a tool for both. Really Internet Explorer should be included in the bunch but I consider that a part of Windows correctly or not.
