Lily Burk
Last Friday Lily Burk a 17 year old who by all accounts was a wonderful kid was killed by a 50 year old transient in Downtown LA. What makes things so scary is the randomness of the crime. From what the media is saying Lily ran an errand for her Mom picking up some papers at the Western University school of Law and was abducted by Samuel in the Parking Lot after he had been released from a drug rehab center nearby. They then drove through downtown attempting to withdraw money from Lily's Credit Card which was apparently not set up for ATM Withdrawal. She even called her parents asking how to withdraw money from an ATM while kidnapped and sounded normal according to her parents. Her abducter then killed her before leaving the car in a warehouse parking lot in downtown where her body was found Saturday morning. This was a kid who was getting ready to start her senior year, star in a summer production, and volunteered at a needle exchange program ironically for homeless people. Her abducter apparently has a long criminal history though he's never been convicted of anything particularly violent. Just a tragedy all around.

Palm Pre versus the iPhone
Well I dont have time for a very thorough write up but I figure what the hey I'll give you my general perceptions now that I have had the Pre for a couple of weeks. My sentiment that the iPhone is the best phone ever hasn't changed at all. The Pre is great and if it were not for the iPhone it'd be the alpha dog. While I expected a serious challenger it seems Apple knows what its doing when it comes to a user interface. People will song all day about the features a phone has, and many of us iPhone pundits scream about the number of apps, but ultimately what sets the iPhone does best is its not hard to get it to do what you plan on doing. I hate the thought of having to read a user manual, its an IT thing honestly I dont understand it either. I've had to google a few tomes to understand how to use the Pre already. With the iphone if it is capable of doing something it is likely able to be done without looking. Now luckily I have the best of both worlds and have an iPhone as my personal phone and a Pre as my workphone. Can't complain abot that. Supposedly the Pre will be expanding its app catalog shortly and it hopes it will then be ona more even playign field with the iPhone. It wont be though as what seperates the iPhone and everyone els is it simply works.

I have been a horrible slacker and I'm sorry =(
Well my life has been crazy busy, whose hasn't? I had a wonderful 4th of July where we spent the day at Cabrillo Beach camping out. I finally put in a lawn at the house though I am still not sure the sod is going to stick... Work has been crazy the past few weeks as I am still getting used to the new owners as well as a new admin team at the Gardena Hospital. In the next month I will have a new CEO, COO, and CQO. Its pretty exciting to watch. In the past week I got a new Blackberry Storm phone for work as it appeared we might be moving towards Blackberries only to find out we wouldn't at which time I took mentioned CEO's jand me down HTC Touch Pro and it looks like my main Hospital is going to sign with Sprint so I may end up with a Palm Pre before the end of next week. You know got to test it out befor we release it in mass. Sometimes its good to be the cell phone admin. I am really looking forward to UFC 100 on Saturday and I got a tweet this afternoon from Dana White saying it would eb broadcast for free on UFC.com. Not sure if thats just for the European cats or not but it might be worth it to look into it further. Im really looking forward to the Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir fight which will settle the Heavyweight Belt. GSP and Thiago Alves should make for an exciting bout as well though I am always hesitant about any card that has more than one title fight on it. Last time that happened was UFC 33 my first card and it was a yawner. Anyways looking forward to the whole card as I said the website for the event is incredible so if you get a chance check that out as well.
