DirecTV and Tivo making up?
DirecTivo (17k image)

I am one of the few with DirecTV with Tivo and my reluctance to move over to the DirecTV branded DVR is going to pay dividends as finally in early 2008 I will get some of the features that regular Tivo owners have had for awhile. Mainly overlap protection (what is that?), deleted items folder, but most importantly DirecTV's remote booking feature.

Dualing Monitors
dual_monitors (900k image)

I was lucky to have a second monitor as it was late tonight at work and I didnt want to miss the Galaxy's qualifying game in the Super Liga match with FC Dallas. It was being webcast by the MLS so as you can see above I could work and watch at the same time. I have the same dual monitor setup at both Hospitals. The quality of the webcast wasn't the same as tv but hey it was clear and I was able to see the Galaxy go up 4-1 by halftime. This has been a great tournament so far.

Update

The damn game ended up being to 6-5 with some very concerning moments but the Galaxy held on to qualify fo the semi-finals. Glad I didnt have to miss it.

KG going to Boston?
celtics (22k image)

Talk about what a difference an offseason makes. Boston traded their number 5 pick for shooting guard Ray Allen which while it wasnt going to guarantee championships it was a huge move forward. Then news is coming out that Boston has traded for Kevin Garnett, who was supposed to be the Lakers savior might I remind you. I have to wonder about the chemistry between Pierce and Allen but KG should be a smooth addition and take Boston right back to the top of the Eastern Conference.

Galaxy play poorly against Chivas
Well it was an entertaining game in the second half but Galaxy did not play well again and might I add again with out Beckham. The game was moved to the Coliseum to accomodate the added fans expected though from the looks of things it could have been played at Home Depot. As was to be expected the Galaxy was playing an away game at home, there are far more America and Chivas fans in Los Angeles than Galaxy fans. Any way Chivas took it to L.A. 2-1 and sit atop group A with 4 points followed by L.A with 3, Dallas with 2, and Pachuca with 1. Group B plays tonight and I am looking forward to seeing DC United versus America. In the other matchup Houston takes on Morelia.

IFL Championship and Grand Prix
Well we are now to the point where the IFL season where things get interesting. The team competition semifinals are August 2nd as the Anacondas face the Silverbacks and the Sabres face the Pitbulls. The Anacondas and Silverbacks actually have a rivalry btreing to make it interesting. The Silverbacks who are two tine champs knocked the Anacondas out of the last playofss and the Anacondas responded by beating them during the regular season. Then on September 20 the team Championship is decided in what was a didappointing change of venur to Hollywood Florida from the Forum in Los Angeles. Then on November 3 the much anticipated World Grand Prix gets started with the top 4 in each weight class facing off for individual honors. The World Grand Prix Finals will be held December 29th. My only complaint is that IFL needs to start airing the events live instead of a week or weak tape delay. The excitement of watching fights you already know the results of is limited and I think its a logical next step for the product.

Superliga 2007
Well it looks like the US is really trying to drive up the poularity of soccer. Not only do we have the whole Beckham phenomenon but there is now going to be a a mini league of four US teams and four Mexican teams to determine a true North American champion. Galaxy opened the tournament well beating Pachuca 2-1. Check out the website at www.superliga2007.com.

My Job
You know its funny I realized the other day that I have pretty much reached the point in my career I have been trying to reach for some time. Basically for the last 9 years I have worked for the same company though in many different capacities, in two different locations, and for two different owners. When I started in 1998 I was in the ER as a unit secretary at MHG. After a year I was promoted into nursing administration as a administrative secretary. Did that for a few months and after I made employee of the month I was given a job in Support Services at East LA. As it turns out that was a significant step. I was going to school at Dominguez majoring in Business with an emphasis in MIS and was learning about the facility. After about a year the Hospitals did a restructure and I was moved back to MHG where I was working in Support Services both in Dietary helping transition the department in house and then as the administrative assistant. Then I got another big break when the I was offered a job as a PC Support Tech in IT. Now I have hel about every position in the department since Networ Specialist, Applications Analyst, Project Manager, I.S Manager, and now Director of IS. Of course the job is interim but I haope they make it permanent...

Beckham makes debut
Well the wait for David Beckham is finally over as the media darling made his debut as a sub I'm the 78th minute and even got off his first corner kick in the closing minutes but to no avail as the Galaxy came up short losing 1-0 to powerhouse Chelsea. The night was full of fanfare as Paul Oakenfold opened the night with an hour set.

Brit Mania tomorrow!
Well not only does the Harry Potter mani officially come to a head tomorrow and though their is some doubt Beckham mania should also start tomorrow. Though his start tomorrow is in doubt due to his ankle injury I doubt the Galaxy could afford not to start him though some might doubt they could afford to risk reinjuring their advertising bonanza as well. Honestly Im almost as excited about the Galaxy taking on Pachuca on Tuesday as I am about them playing Chelsea tomorrow. As for Harry Potter though I listened to JK Rowlings reading I dont even know if I will buy the new and last Potter book as I havent really followed the books but rather the movies. Maybe I will break down for curiosity's sake.

LA Galaxy Looking to be the real deal!
galaxyy (17k image)

I know I am not the only one writing about Beckhams arrival this week to the Los Angeles Galaxy but really there is more to be excited about than his arrival. Abel Xavier was the first big piece this year to be added to the squad which already had US star Landon Donovan in its ranks. Not only does my team have the most star studded squad in the US now but it has a great stadium and finally a cool uniform that one might actually want to drop some coin on. One of my biggest frustrations has always been the Galaxy uniform and now they have one of the better uniforms in the world. The team looks legit now and I think it will make a difference and have to wonder how much Beck had an influence on the sudden uniform change.

Apple iPhone
Well I finally got my hands on the iPhone I have been wanting for quite some time now. It was fun this weekend as everytime I took it out of my pocket I would get stopped by someone else who was interested in one as well. The phone all in all is great. The internet surfing is unique in that it is more like browsing on a computer than a phone and the display flat out blows any competitor out og the water. Rumors abound that we should be expecting updates any time soon including a much needed instant messenger client and the abillity to send pictures by text. I have found that I use the speaker a lot ot listen to songs at work and really the size limits have not posed as big a deal as I though they would. The camera is not great but also is not bad but the damn display of your pictures is awesome. As it stands Id say it was woth the $600 pricetag but really it depends on the anticipated updates and whether they indeed show up some time soon.

Nike Core Backpack
nikeCoreBackpack (520k image)
Its not often a product has an opportunity to make a big impact in my life, Cellphone, Laptop, Car etc... that I had a pleasant surprise when I bought a Nike Care Backpack. I work in Information Systems and pretty much have to have my laptop around at all times so I carry it in a backpack. I dont know if you have seen most of the laptop bags around these days but they typically dont manage the weight well. I really like the Core Backpack because it feels like I am carrying a much lighter load, plus it has a ipod pouch not customary cd player pouch. Its a very solid backpack which I highly reccomend.

Padron Cigars
I was wondering as I used to have a hankering for a good cigar here and then which were the good ones now a days. Turns out one brand dominates in the U.S. Padron Cigars were rated the best by consumers across the board. Padron dominated almost evry category but in special interest to me the Padron 3000 was the best cigar under $5. Not a cheap habit nor a healthy one but hey? I have always wante dto learn cigars and wines but have never had a chance to learn either. Maybe this year I will get a chance.

The BMW 1 Series
bmw1series (23k image)

Not sure how I happened to fall on this info nor why I hadnt heard of it earlier but BMW is going back to the future with a new series line marked the BMW 1 Series. Back to the future because basically they did the same thing 40 years ago with the 1968 BMW 2002. Build a smaller car and jam a bigger engine into it. These vehicles will share the same powerplant as the 3 series. Sounds like a lot of fun hopefully I'll have my iPhone by then and I can afford one of these after it.

WEC
Now ever since Zuffa bought the WEC I thought it would be an organization for the smaller guys but honestly I have really enjoyed the fights they put together and the fact that their events are on the versus network which is free for me. Now they have Paulo Filho fighting for the 185 pound championship which gives them some serious credibilitity giving them now arguably the best guys at 185 and 145 pounds. Filho is number one in many peoples minds and an argument could be made for his ranking there with an undefeated record and victories over some very tough competition.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08
Well I have gotten along pretty far in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 and was excited to find out that Tiger Woods 08 would be following along shortly. The game comes out in the end of August, I believe the 27th and has some exciting new features. One is the game face engine will allow one to upload pictures of oneself and create a player in your image. The other is a gamernet site where you can upload challenge be it single hole to a full round and challenge others on gamernet to match you. The game sounds amazing though I have heard that my putting game is going to take a hit as I can't use the old putting assister to tell me where to aim any more. In the new version you line up your put and ypu can see where it will go once by hiting the bumper button but no repeats, yikes my game is definitely gonna need some work. Really looking forward to this and it definitely should be able to tide me over til Halo 3 is released.

UFC 73
Well aptly named stacked this card was by far my most anticipated ina long time. The first fight of the night was Heath Herring vrs. Rodrigo Noqueira and like its previous two versions this fight didnt disappoint. Herring had Nog in big trouble in end of the first and the onset of the second but was never able to tale advantage letting Nog take the decision. Sean Sherk and Hermes Franca fight for the lightweight belt was more of the same as Franca looked close to knocking out Sherk at the begining of what seemed like each round only to get taken down and dominated the rest of each round. Tito Ortiz vrs. Rashad Evans was also interesting as Tito would have had the win had it not been for a point he had deducted for grabbing the fence which made the battle a unanimous draw. Finally Anderson Silva proved to all of us that he is a lot better than most of us give him credit for as he made some beautiful transitions on the ground and ended up tko'ing Nate Marquardt in the first round. Kenny Florian took it to Alvin Robinson taking him out in the first round with some of his viscious elbows and ground and pound.

Gaffey St Diner
I found out my local town has a celebrity well more than the ones we already know about. The Gaffey St Diner was apparently featured on the Food Network. Its typical Americana food and its right off the 110 freeway.

Casio Exilim EX-V7SR
CasioExilimEX-V7 (12k image)

I know I posted about this camera already but I finally got one today... It really does have all the improvements I could ask for. It really reminds me a lot of how Palm made improvements in their line getting user feedback and then improving the product. My previous Casio Exilim I had problems with the fact the telescoping lens would open in a pocket and get broken and also it wouldn't have a strong enough optical zoom for many pictures. Well with the EX-V7 the took away the telescoping lens and upgraded the optical zoom from 3x to 7x and even added an anti shake technology to top it off and it looks really cool.
