Inter-Clasico Chivas USA versus CD America
In what is really a new twist on what is an old Mexican Soccer tradition Chivas USA of Los Angeles played CD America of Mexico City in what they called the inter-classico. I figured that since it was two classic rivals there would be some spirit to the game but it was amazing to see how the fans reacted. The stadium had more than its fair share of yellow for America which was surprising considering Chivas USA was the home team. In reality most true Chivas de Guadalajara fans didnt think the US version would do the tradition proud but in a surprise twist they upset America winning by penalty kicks after 90 minutes of play. It was a great game and a great environment and I had a lot of fun.

Sea World
Went to Sea World with the kids and my in-laws yesterday. The park is a blast, with a nice mixture of shows, rides, and animals it was like getting a little bit amusement park and a little bit zoo. We had a good time though driving the two hours too and from San Diego makes it a really long day.

You know it was interesting how I luckily got to go see Pearl Jam last week and thoroughly enjoyed myself. It was a great experience and reminded me of how much I had enjoyed their music several years back and how good they really are today. So I have been exploring iTunes and getting their albums while also trolling through Soundgarden, since I am a fan of Audioslave and never really had or couldnt recollect a lot of exposure to them. It was strange how I felt a sort of connection between these two bands that didnt seem to exist and then as I was checking out the imix's I fell upon a Chris Cornell's greatest songs which featured music from Audioslave, Soundgarden, and Temple of the Dog. I was intrigued so I checked out their page and it turns out that back in the day prior to Pearl Jam blowing up big Members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam had worked together as a project to honor Andrew Wood the singer of Mother Love Bone who had died of a heroin overdose. Eddie and Pearl Jam sing crown of thorns which was a song on the Mother Love Bone album. Chris Cornell was a housemate of Andrews and was hit hard by his death and started penning a couple of songs, and as it turns out Pearl Jam consists of several members of Mother Love Bone which in its own part was made up of Green River and Malfunkshun. Anyways Andrew died two weeks before Mother Love Bones album was to be released. So back to the story Cornell pens the songs and asks Stone and Jeff, Andrews bandmates and soon to be founding members of Pearl Jam if they wanted to record the songs. The project surprisingly didnt gather much attention, they only played one official show, until later when Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger and Pearl Jams's Ten exploded and people were dying for more music from the bands.

iPod Rescue
Well with all the cracked screens and dead batteries it looks like there is a small cottage industry in iPod repairs. I am interested in getting the whole nike+ ipod training system but it only runs on a nano, or at least I cant find anything saying I can use my iPod video, of course I also cant find anything saying I couldn't...But anyways I didnt want to have to buy a new ipod which my cheapest option was going to be like $150.00 especially painful considering I have a nano with a cracked screen that otherwise works great. So I looked on the web and found a cool site called iPodResq.com where for 105.00 they will ship you a next day box that you ship your ipod back to them they repair it same day and ship it back to you voileau screen repaired.

Pearl Jam
Got a chance to go to the Pearl Jam show on Sunday and they were awesome. They played the forum and started at around 9:00 and didnt finish til close to 11:30. I enjoyed the show so much that I bought a recording off their web site and stuck it on my iPod. Not a bad deal and something that Pearl Jam has a different mentality about than other bands is the selling of each and every live show they do. I know Jack Johnson has an equally open mentality about the sharing of his shows but Pearl Jam will actually record them for you and sell you a copy for $10.00

UFC 61
Well I have to admit that bitter rivals wasn't the greatest UFC and other than UFC 33 this may have been the worst show I have seen in some time but hey I still love it. The interesting thing is that even though the show wasn't that great the buzz after the fight seems better than ever before. The big news of course was that barring some unfortunate events Chuck Liddell will face Wanderlei Silva in November. Now of course coming the month after Anderson Silva made his debut I am actually starting to believe that the UFC is getting a little more serious about bringing in the best competition.

The card broke down like this:

Drew Fickett defeated Kurt Pellegrino by submission Submission (Rear Naked Choke) 3 1:20
Cheick Kongo defeated Gilbert Aldana by TKO (Doctor Stoppage) 1 4:13
Jeff Monson defeated Anthony Perosh by TKO (Strikes) 1 2:22
Hermes Franca defeated Joe Jordan by Submission (Triangle Choke) 3 0:47
Joe Stevenson defeated Yves Edwards by TKO (Doctor Stoppage) 2 5:00
Frank Mir Dan defeated Christison by Decision (Unanimous) 3 5:00
Tito Ortiz defeated Ken Shamrock by TKO (Strikes) 1 1:18
Josh Burkman defeated Josh Neer by Decision (Unanimous) 3 5:00
Tim Sylvia defeated Andrei Arlovski by Decision (Unanimous) 5 5:00

Fox News
I was on the news the other night when I was interviewed about the high bacteria levels in the water at Cabrillo Beach by Susan Hirasuma of fox news the other day. It was pretty cool to actually make the broadcast as I had been on camera before but my ugly mug never made the cut. I have had several people who spotted me from work which was funny because I figured a Sunday night broadcast would probably be the least viewed. I a tivo'd it to keep my fleeting moment on tv.

Once again a very proud uncle!
My brother and sister in law just had child number two this morning a healthy 7 pound 7 ounce baby boy. Its going to be a huge change for Leslie who is quite used to being the queen bee and being the center of attention but hey I got over the resentment of my lil brother by the time I was 18 so their's hope. Not sure what they are going to name the little dude yet but I will keep you posted.

Update

Lil Dude is named Christopher David which interestlingly enough is the name of my two cousins from my dads side of the family.

World Cup
Today was doubly depressing for me. I was bummed when the US didnt make the elimination rounds but I still had England to root for. Well today Portugal knocked them out too and to add insult to injury France knocked out Brazil. The semifinals are going to be great as Germany takes on Italy on the 4th and France takes on Portugal on the 5th. If I had to pick favorites I would say it would probably be Portugal and Germany in the final but I definitely wont look past France again especially after the game they played today.
