Audiobooks
Well as you know I have been hooked on my iPod for some time now and I was curious since I had never heard one how an audio book would work for me. When I have time I am a voracious reader which has actually caused me to not read that much because once I start a book I tend to focus a little too much attention on finishing it. Finally I have been able to find a happy medium with audio books on my iPod. The first book I got was Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy which was awesome. The fact that I could listen on my way and at work was great because the book didnt keep me from doing other things. I have since listened to The Davinci Code and am now listening to Demons and Angels both from Dan Brown. I have found, as many other millions of people, that his mixture of religion and science is fascinating.

Braun Cruzer
I am always suspicious about things that try to be an all in one but I have always trusted Braun Shavers. The Cruzer is basically a 3 in 1 shaver styler and trimmer. Their website is pretty cool too.

Lakers draft a big man
Well I'm not sure what the lakers were thinking but with their number one pick they grabbed a high school senior by the name of Andrew Bynum. He's 7ft 300 pounds but hes definitely not gonna be Shaq material for a while. Its definitely an interesting choice though.

Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy
I have been curious about listening to audiobooks on my iPod and picked up the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. The book is first and foremost really good. Its almost mindblowing at times. Now for the iPod and how well it handles audiobooks. I like being able to listen to the books but being broken into mostly two hour segments means that without a means of bookmarking where I left off it is dangerous to turnaround and listen to music. I mean sure you can fastforward through segments you've already listened to but the damn thing takes forever to get back to where you were. Oh well I like it enough that I guess I'll manage.

The Difference between men and women! I laughed my ass off when I saw this photo because it is just so true. I also had a friend that said that the problem with relationships was that men go into a relationship hoping the women will never change while women go into a relationship thinking they can change the man.

Jessica Cutler
Wow talk about a weblog getting you in trouble and then making you famous. Jessica Cutler was a staffer for a midwestern senator who wrote about her sexual exploits with various other Washington DC upper crusties and then got fired from her job for it and then ended up having an article written about her in the Washington Post and now has a pictorial in Playboy that is due out sometime in the fall.

Yahoo 360
Well I had been waiting for some time for Yahoo 360 to come out of Beta or at least get an invite so I could check it out. Well the other night I was checking it out and while it is pretty coll I dont see where it really has any advantage over My Space thought it does have a couple features I havent seen elsewhere. One is an included Moblog and the other is a Launchcast radio station. I haven't tested the moblog functionality yet and have tons of trouble with the launchcast station but hey it's still in beta so I wont whine too much yet.

Samsung i730
Well now that I am hooked up with a good team at work Verizon keeps me up to speed on soon to be releases and I got a call today saying they are ready to roll out the Samsung i730. Now from what I understand this phone is comparable in size to a Treo but offers Wi Fi and also Bluetooth. My experience with the previous pocket pc was good though I didn't like the keyboard or phone functionality and it sounds like the have improved both on this model.

Oops we did it again?
Well now we have gone and done it. We keep violating peoples and now countries rights in what we call our war on terror and finally we have managed to really piss off Italy. Apparently they were investigating a man living in Milan, guessing it was for terrorist actibity, when the US swooped in and snatched him up in Milan and moved him to Cairo. Now Italy is saying hey what the F we dont go running into your country and snatch people without you knowing it so this is kidnapping. Bam!! now they ordered the CIA agents to trial on kidnapping charges. You know I support the war on terror as much as the next guy but if we are going to do crap like this we atleast need to not get caught at it.

Children of Tomorrow by Joanna Dewar
My daughter was "promoted" to 6th grade today and the graduation ceremony was the usual burn dad to a crisp affair graduations usually are. One note of excitement other than her getting a special award was that her poem was on the back of the pamplet they give everyone and I thought it was cute so here it is:
We are all children of tomorrow
The next generation, kids of the future
The next leaders for sure
Maybe the next mayor, senator, maybe even president
or maybe a Rolling Hills resident
But what will never happen
Is forgetting the date
We met our fate and came to South Shores
A performing arts magnet
Math assignments, science assignments, spelling tests
And all the rest
Those things I might forget,
But I will remember South Shores forever.

Lions save girl from kidnappers
Well I read it onCNN.com so I guess it must be true. Basically in Ethiopa there is a tradition of kidnapping young girls and forcing them into marriage. Well this girl had been kidnapped by seven men and was beaten before three lions came to her rescue and protected her until her family and police were able to find her.

Teri Schiavo Part 2
Well I was pretty vocal in this post back in March when Teri Schiavo's feeding tube was removed. I think they did the right thing and after the autopsy I am certain that they did. Not only was Teri's intellectual faculties completely gone but she was also completely blind so the belief her parents held that she saw and reacted to them was obviously not possible. Sure its rough to have to starve to death and in reality they probably could have just let her live on, but is it really necessary?

Kobe and Phil back together again!
In what must have been the most commonly known potential hiring Phil Jackson has signed with the Lakers again. I was going to write resigned and realized what it looked like. So I wonder if the Lakers told Kobe. Probably went something like this; Hey we tried it your way and didnt make the playoffs and when we tried it his way we made the finals so just shut the hell up.... Oh sorry thats what I would have said. I really think Phil has his work cut out for him and while sure he's banging the boss's daughter I have the feeling Kobe has the boss and general manager in his pocket. Needless to say I dont believe unless Phil can do something magical this year it doesnt look like theres a huge change in store for Laker fans but he does shine a brighter light on the situation.

Michael Jackson Innocent?
Well I was somewhat shocked to hear Jackson was found innocent but at the same time I wasn't. I mean really we have an established precedent of stars getting off on high profile crimes that an average man would have convicted for. Now of course I dont want to sound like I was completely sure he did what they accused him of but he really does seem to invite attacks on his character while at the same time that could just be a sign of his innocence. So now we have OJ, Robert Blake, and Michael. Makes you wonder will prosecutors think twice about going forward with cases against high profile individuals for fear that they wont be successful and will end up coming out soiled for the efforts.

Lost my Treo - A good experience?
Well On Thursday I was at CSUDH for my daughters play. Enjoyed the girls performance and when I got home I noticed my Treo had fallen out of its clip. Well I checked the car saw it wasnt there and figured I'd head back to the theatre in the morning to look for it. When I got to the University in the morning I went over to the Police Station and asked if they had received my phone. The dispatcher said that none had been turned in and then a really nice officer offered to walk me over to the theatre to look for it. Well I remembered my seat number so it wasnt hard to figure out it wasnt there. The officer told me to come back and see him if I needed a report.
Once I got to work Verizon was awesome and turned off the old phone and activated an old standby I had. Then forwarded me to Centurion to file the insurance claim. This was the only negative part of my experience. They wanted everything short of my kitchen sink but I understand they need to cover themselves and really I could have gotten it done with a couple of calls.
Well I decided to put off getting a report til Monday since I had the backup phone which I like a lot. Well this morning the janitor for the University theatre called me to tell me she had my phone and hadnt turned it in because she wanted to make sure I got it, apparently there is some confusion in the police dispatch some times. Well I told her I would be at the dispatch to pick it up at 8:00 so they couldn't lose it and when I got there it was waiting for me!

Jessica Simpson
I dont know if its because of the rumored breakup of her and Nick but Jessica Simpson seems to have decided to take a walk on the freak side with the new Dukes of Hazzard movie. I had seen photos of her in the pink bathing suit but had not thought that they were part of her freaking in a music video. Wow she isn't that shy lil christian girl anymore. Oh well Id rather her wash a car over Paris any day.

Well I love my music as much as the next guy and this year was really exciting going in because most of my favorites came out with new albums this year. Coldplay released X&Y last week and I am impressed. It seems to amaze me that they get better with every album much like Jack Johnson has. If your on the fence about getting this album I highly reccomend it.

Ipod2car
Well as you know I tried the Itrip and wasnt impressed. Theres no good way to use a fm modulator in LA. Im guessing a hard wired version will be best. Ipod2car looks like the best solution other than the factory solutions that are already out there. The system is pricy though floating around at 200.00 Not sure if I'm that addicted to my ipod.
Found another product which does the same thing its called Neo iOn. It is also pricey at 190.00 but its good to go with the Scion.

UFC 53 results and 54 preview
Well I missed the UFC this weekend but may take a look at it this week. From what I have heard it was a great show. The result were:
Nick Diaz defeated Koji Oishi via KO at 1:24 in round 1.
David Loiseau defeated Charles "Chainsaw" McCarthy via referee stoppage at 2:10 in round 2. Loiseau hurt McCarthy with a spinning back kick to the stomach and followed with a flying knee.
Nathan Quarry defeated Shonie Carter via referee stoppage at 2:37 in round 1.
Paul Buentello defeated Kevin Jordan via guillotine choke at 4:00 in round 1.
Forrest Griffin defeated Bill Mahood via rear naked choke at 2:18 in round 1.
Rich Franklin defeated Evan Tanner via doctor stoppage at 3:25 of round 4. Franklin is the new UFC middleweight champion.
Karo Parisyan defeated Matt Serra via unanimous decision.
Andrei Arlovski defeated Justin Eilers via referee stoppage at 4:10 in round 1. Eilers twisted his right knee and went down. Arlovski pounded away until the ref stopped the fight. Arlovski keeps the Interim UFC Heavyweight title.
In some other really exciting news some bouts that are rumored for UFC 54 are:
Chuck Liddell vs, Jeremy Horn
Randy Couture vs, Mike Van Arsdale
George St. Pierre vs. Frank Trigg
Diego Sanchez vs. Dave Strasser
Matt Linland vs, Joe Riggs

iTrip Mini
Well I have been fine tuning my iTrip mini to work in the old xB and think I have it just about perfect. Its pretty cool how it works it has stations that are downloaded to it thsn you can select like songs and then that station is the broadcast station for your iPod. Its not perfect by any means but it does get the job done. Any FM modulator would have trouble in LA with all the radio stations we have not allowing for any free space.

Slingmedia Slingbox Personal Broadcaster
Wow talk about a cool idea, if it works well, Imagine being able to stream your home television to anywhere with a broadband connection. Thats what the Slingbox claims it can do. Cell phone, computer, whatever if you have broadband you can use this to watch it. For example I have a DirecTV Tivo at home. I could plug it into my slingbox, which functions a remote control might I add, and then go on a business trip and not miss a sho I Tivo. I could log in from a pc cafe and watch my shows or live tv for that matter. Basically all that is reccomended is a router, boradband, and video source for it to work. Im not sure how you would find your device since it is behind the router but it sounds simple. For the computer to watch it on you just need a pc with at least 128 mb ram and 512 mb storage space and a beoadband connection. Slingmedia refers to the capability as placeshifting as Tivo is refered to timeshifting. TV is getting way to easy to watch.

Korn and Head parted ways?
Well I had heard that Brian "Head" Welsh had gone his own way and left Korn but I never heard why. Today I decided to check out what was up on the Korn website and was surprised to find this message:
Korn has parted ways with guitarist Brian "Head" Welch, who has chosen the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior, and will be dedicating his musical pursuits to that end. Korn respects Brian's wishes and hopes he finds the happiness he is searching for. Jonathan, Fieldy, James, and David are personally closer than ever, and are currently in the studio working on their 8th record, the follow up to their highly successful Greatest Hits album. The record is due to be released this coming September.
So as a Korn fan it was concerning to hear "head" had left the band but if he is closer to God then more power to him. Munky is a great guitarist and I always felt kind of took a back seat to "Head" so it will be interesting to see how he steps up on this album.
As for "Head" well Brian's new website is http://www.headtochrist.com/ and is actually quite inspiring. I am amazed that he would take this kind of turn and found it to be pretty cool actually. I look forward to seeing what kind of music he comes out with as an EP is on the way according to his site.

Now you all know that Im a diehard KROQ fan but theres a new radio station that is getting my attention lately. Latino 96.3 has a cool mix of Reggaeton and Spanish Hip Hop which is pretty awesome. The station was apparently reformatted and is so new they dont even have DJ's yet. Its actually nice not having to listen to people talk but Im sure that will change shortly.

Sony PSP
Well I finally got my hands on a PSP. The device is really nice. It feels pretty good in the hand and if you first impression is to watch a movie on the thing it seems absolutely amazing. I watched a few Trailers that come on the demo disc and was really impressed with the video quality and sound. But then I decided to play a game on it and thats where my utter infatuation ended. The PSP is a good enough gaming device. The game was NFL street and the graphical quality was good enough to please me but the loads time were really long. It was a lil frustrating to the point you want to holler. Now mind you I am a little spoiled and all in all I am impressed with the device but will probably wait for the price to drop some before I would consider getting one.
