PRIDE - Critical Countdown
Wow what a shame Pride was on the night after UFC as it just makes UFC seem so small time. The whole Pride setup is just so awesome compared to UFC. The quarterfinals of the Pride Heavyweight Grand Prix started off with Kazushi Sakuraba taking a unanimous decision over Antonio Schembri in a grudge match. Sakuraba was knocked out by Schembri last time out and he looked determined to avenge himself this time. Sakuraba lloked more like the Gracie killer this time compared to his last few outings. In the second fight and arguably the most exciting finish of the night Quinton Jackson defeated Ricardo Arona by devestating slam to become the Number One contender for the Middleweight title. That means we should see a rematch of Jackson and Silva some time in October. In the first of the quarterfinals matches Sergei Kharitonov defeated Semmy Schilt by TKO. Kharitinov reminds me alot of Fedor Emelianenko in his ability to do everything. In the second Quarterfinal Naoya Ogawa defeated Paulo Cesar Silva who is the Andre the Giant of Pride. Ogawa was able to get by SIlva by TKO and is the lone Japanese fighter to advance to the semifinals. In a non quarterfinal match Mark Hunt lost in his Pride debut to Hidehiko Yoshida. Hunt put up a fight on the ground but needs to work on his ground game if he plans on staying in Pride. This aint K-1 and you cant survive wthout ground skills. In the third quarterfinal match Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira proved he is still one of the best when he defeated Heath Herring by choke to advance. In the last math Fedor Emelianenko defeated Kevin Randleman by armbar but the story of this fight was Fedor getting back up from a viscious suplex to win the fight. I heard somewhere that when the finals come around the President of Pride doesn't want to see two Russians in the final so I expect we will Nogueira versus Ogawa and Emelianenko versus Kharitonov. Should be awesome.

UFC 48 - Payback
UFC put on a good show tonight. In the prelim matches George St Pierre looked like a champ to be by defeating Jay Hieron by TKO. I look forward to seeing St Pierre again as he is a very exciting well rounded fighter. In the first of the televised fights Evan Tanner handled Phil Baroni in quiet dominating fashion. Unfortunately when a team Quest fighter is doing a good job the fight is all ground and pound. Thats what happened here as Tanner did his job and took it to Baroni who has yet to take a grudge match. Matt Hughes got the nod versus Renato Verrisimo though I felt Verrisimo did more to win the fight. Not sure I agreed with the judges and kind of wonder if Dana White didn't have some influence in this as Imagine he would rather have Matt Hughes wearing the belt rather than BJ Penn who seems to be going his own way. Frank Mir defeated Tim Silva by armbar, though really it was ref stoppage when he snapped the arm. The crowd sucked and booed the fighters because it ended the way it did but props to Mir who did what he set out to. Not to mention rumor has it that Silva pissed positive again. Frank Trigg defeated Dennis Hallman in the second grudge match of the night Taking it to the who beat Matt Hughes twice. I would like to see Trigg take on Hughes again or even Penn for the belt. I was never on the Trigg bandwagon but he won me over after this fight. In the "Main" event Ken Shamrock beat Kimo with a knee which knocked Kimo out shortly into the first round. Now I know Dana White is trying to draw attention to the older fighters to bring in old fans but please dont make to has beens the main event especially when the same night the heavyweight title is on the line. In the press conference after the fight Tito Ortiz and Shamrock had to be seperated after Tito talked major crap to Frank. Expect to See Old has been Frank and New has been Tito in a pay per view near you. I liked the fights and thought the card was really good. Just didn't like the way the main event was drawn up and was disappointed with the fans at the fight. UFC as far as I can see just cant compete with Pride still!

Halo - Combat Evolved Halo: Combat Evolved for Windows is my newest addiction. I decided to try it out after playing Halo on my friends xbox. After downloading the trial version, completing the level they let you try out, and playing it online I decided to buy it. The game is flat out awesome. Now with the new version coming out for xbox I hope the version for the pc is not soon to follow. I really like the online play a lot. The only thing I dont like about the pc version is I want a control that is as good as the one on the xbox. Who knows maybe I'll save my pennies and get me an xbox.

OQO Handheld Computer
The OQO Model 01 ultra personal computer is awesome. It is a fully functional laptop tablet that is also palm sized. At 4.9x3.4x.9 inches in size it truly is small. It uses the infamous transmeta processor we have all been waiting for. In its docking station as in laptop docking ie to connect to a fullsize monitor and keyboard it truly seems like a fullsized computer. Using 802.11b netorking technology should make it easy to get on the net, especially with hotspots all over the place now plus it has usb and firewire ports for connecting to peripherals. Not being a huge fan of handhelds for what they lack i truly believe this is an awesome alternetive. Cant wait to see what the pricing scheme will be on it. Hope they let me do a test on one when they come out. Check out their awesome VIDEO which shows the device in action.

Yahoo Mail Yahoo Mail has received a desperately needed upgrade in serveice. Thanks to the new GMail from Google which will be offering one gig of storage when it comes out. Yahoo revamped the interface and increased mail storage from 7 mb to 100 mb which seems to be plenty for me. I use yahoo as my primary mail account as it is so I was pleasantly surprised when I logged in today.

Pride Critical Countdown
The next card for Pride looks to be awesome. The second round of the heavyweight tournament has some awesome fights with Fedor Emelianenko vs. Kevin “The Monster” Randleman in what should be another awesome test of Randleman as Fedor is arguably the best in the game. But hey who figured Randleman would get through Cro Cop the way he did. In the second bout of the tournament we get Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira vs. “The Texas Crazy Horse” Heath Herring. Nogueira like Fedor is on the top of his game and we will ahve to see the Heath of old with his "A" game for any surprises here. In the third bout Paulo Cesar “Giant” Silva vs. Naoya Ogawa I expect to see Ogawa move on unless Giant Silva has really improved his game. This is typical Japanese trying to stack the deck as Ogawa is the last remaining hope and Silva although huge is the least polished of the final eight. In the last match of the tourney Semmy Schilt vs. Sergei Kharitonov I am not sure who to go with as Kharitinov had a real strong showing but Schilt is always dangerous. In the other matches for the number one middleweight contenders match we get Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (USA) vs. Ricardo Arona (Brazil) to face Wanderlei Silva in October for the belt. In other matches my hero Kazushi Sakuraba (Japan) vs. Antonio “Nino” Schembri (Brazil) in a grudge match for Sakuraba who was knocked out by Schembri last March. Finally we get to see one of the greats from K-1 in the final matchup of Hidehiko Yoshida (Japan) vs. Mark Hunt (New Zealand). Hunt is a K-1 legend while Yoshida is a former Olympic Judo Champion. Yoshida drew/won? Royce Gracie but complaints were filed which had the match turned to a draw. SHould be a huge contrast in styles as Hunt gets some tough competition his first time in Pride. Looks like an interesting card.

Gunner Palace Gunner Palace is a documentary about the war in Iraq. There is a truly awesome trailer of a soldier playing the star spangled banner on the roof of Gunner Palace. I really want to see this movie. It looks powerful.

Harbor Boxing Club
I was driving through San Pedro the other day and noticed Harbor Boxing Club on 15th and Pacific. What an awesome way to get a workout eh? The only drawback, club dues are only 35.00 is that with an open membership you can only train when there is nobody else there, I'll have to see what they have available but it sounds like a cool place to work out.

UFC Sudden Impact UFC Sudden Impact is the newest edition of the UFC line of games. It has received mixed reviews so I will probably rent it before I buy it but it looks exciting with tis new career mode. Speaking of the UFC its next event #48 is looking to me to be a yawner. Shamrock vr.s Leopoldo as the headliner? Who cares anymore? The tainted Heavyweight champonship of Tim "Is this his third strike?" Sylvia vr.s Frank "Pretty Boy" Mir would have been more respectable if it had been Arlovski and Mir. I think Mir gets knocked out early in this one. Matt Hughes vrs Renato Verrisimo is interesting but since its a much more important bout for Hughes I cant see him losing it. Phil Baroni vrs Evan Tanner II is another "GRUDGE" match with very lil heat behind it. Baroni is entertaining despite a fairly crappy record and Tanner is pretty classy so this will be interesting. Since Baroni doesn't perform well in grudge matches I'll give the nod to Tanner. Dennis Hallman vr.s Frank Trigg looks to me to be the best fight of the night. This truly is a grudge match from a previous WFA fight where Trigg basically kicked Hallman in the nads and Hallman couldn't continue so Trigg got the nod. Hope Hallman kicks his ass in payment but both these guys are awesome and should put on a good show. Matt Serra will take on a really strong Ivan Menjivar in another good looking match to top off the night as I see it. Looking forward to June 19 mainly because I'm an addict and cant get enough mma. Til then.

Life and Stuff
Well I just got back from my daughters play. Its a performing arts magnet so the production was actually pretty good for an elementary school. I am jazzed about the Lakers knocking off Minnesota and squaring off against Detroit. At least for us old folk, theres a sense of rivalry there from the Magic Era. Of Course none of the players are around from those days, but hey. Still really enjoying the xB and my t610 phone. Other than that I have been trying not to waste money, got a car to pay for you know.
