UFC 60
Well I have to admit I was a lil depressed that I couldnt go watch UFC 60 but the pay per view was great and it saved me $960.00. The pay per view started with Mike Swick taking on Joe Riggs. Now I have to admit I thought this would be the fight where Mike Swick got beat down so bad that he would have to retire but quite the contrary he did to Joe Riggs what he did to his previous three opponents and tore through him quite quickly taking him out with a guillotine choke! Next up was another up and coming fighter Brandon Vera taking on Assuerio Silva. Now it seems the UFC is not sure whether Vera's going to be the next big thing at Heavyweight or Light Heavyweight but I figured this match was a lot like Rigg's for Swick and indeed it was especially since Vera choked at Silvia with a Guillotine in the first round as well. Next up was the yawner of the night as Diego Sanchez was stifled by John Allesio who kept Diego from taking him down but also didn't mount any offense per se. Diego had a flash at the end of the match to get the decision. Dean Lister took out Alesio Sakara in what was an entertainin but brief match. Lister afterwards made it clear he plans to drop to 185 which should make things interesting. Next was the main event of Hughes vrs Gracie and as common sense would dictate Hughes rolled through Gracie in quick fashion dominating the standup first and then the ground game. It was a very decisive victory much as most of Matt's fights are.

The dark matches turned out to be almost as good as the ppv matches. The lightweight division is really starting to catch fire as Spencer Fisher tool it to Matt Wiman in a see saw battle that finally ended with a Fischer flying knee. Also in Lightweight action Melvin Guillard took it to Rick Davis knocking him out with one f the sickest sounding punches I have heard ever. In heavyweight action Gabriel Gonzaga took it to Fabiano Sherner knocking him out in the second. In other action Jeremy Horn got the victory over Chael Sonnen by arm bar in the second in a match which didnt make television.

American Apparel
You know its not often that I am impressed much by a simple t-shirt much less one that I buy at a show. Definitely I have never been impressed enough to look one up on line. The t-shirt I bought at the weanie roast was different. The cut was really cool and the fabric just seems nicer. Then when I read the label not only did it say it was made in Los Angeles but was sweat shop free. American Apparel has been a huge success focusing on just what I mentioned. Check out their website I highly reccomend their products.

KROQ Weanie Roast & Fiesta
It just dawned on me that I hadnt made an entry about the Weanie Roast and Honestly this one will I'm sure be a little strange. The show was a blast, the weather was great, the crowd was fun to be in. Memorable moments were AFI, who I was familiar with but hadnt heard live. They were great and I was amazed at how much of their music I actually know. Matisyah was great as I expected but the sound crew never could get the volume right so the guitar was overpowering and tended to drown out Matisyahu but hey these things happen. Hopefully he'll come out with a Live at Stubbs 2 for the Youth Album. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were great live and I have always wanted to see them play and would still like to see them do a full show but the highlight for me was surpise guest Dave Grohl who played some foo songs acoustic. The man never ceases to amaze me. As always the Weanie Roast was a great success.

Mac Book Dual Cor
macbook_bw (21k image)

I have not been more excited about a new model of computer than I have been about the Apple MacBook It comes in 3 varieties the first is White in color with 1.83 ghz processor/512mb RAM/60 GB Hard Drive/Combo Drive for $1099, the next model up is also White with 2 ghz processor/512 mb ram/60 gb Hard Drive/Super Drive for $1299, and the last model is Black with 2 ghz processor/512 mb ram/80 gb hard drive/Super Drive for $1499. All models ship with the new remote, iSight Camera, iLife Software, and Front Row. I have always liked the form factor of the MacBook though I wonder why someone would pay $150.00 more for a black case but apparently Apple feels they can get that and it has worked as a color scheme with the iPods so run with it. Besides with the new great marketing campaign that Apple has been running it will be interesting to see what kind of impact Apple can make with these new MacBooks.

Google map for Blackberry
Well I have to admit that I am pleseantly happy with Google's software for the Blackberry as it managed to get me home today. I left a consulting job this evening and realized I hadn't gotten directions home. So got directions on the maps and it probably saved me a good 20 minutes off the route I would have taken. It is basically the same Google maps software that is out for windows and its a good tool and best of all its free.

Lycos Phone Beta
Wow talk about where the future Lycos Phone Beta might be something that catches on. It gives you VOIP with a phone number in the United States for free. Incoming calls are free and if you verify you get voicemail to email and fax to email as well. Out going calls to anywhere in the US is one cent per minute. Not bad imagine we will be seeing yahoo and google coming out with phone service anytime soon?

Wow two for One Special Today
Well we found out just as we suspected that Halo 3, which this trailer is of, will be released in November 2007 so as to best compete with the Playstation 3. Also we found out the PS3 will be priced at $499 and $599 respectively. Now microsoft and Sony may as a team effort build up the Nintendo offering if they can just price it nicely. In other news that was exciting, at least for me, 24 has been added to iTunes hopefully they will throw all the seasons up there so I can catch up as well.

Lakers Exit but there's still hope for Los Angeles
In some ways this is a very strange year for Los Angeles. What normally signals the end of basketball for us is now a new begining. It used to be that when the Lakers made their exit from the playoffs we were looking forward to next year and all of the posibilities, but not this year. L.A. can focus its adoration on the clippers and cheer them on to new heights. Theres lots of people who dont like the clips but after all they have done to get where they are I cant help but root for them. Im actually kind of glad they aren't facing the Lakers as it would have been like a 7 game road trip at home! I think they have a good shot at going deep in the playoffs, though it wont be easy. Hopefully the Suns wont single handedly destroy Los Angeles hopes for a season!

Ferrari of the Air
PiaggioAero (53k image)
Ever wonder what Ferrari would make if they made airplanes. Well it turns out the Piaggio Aero P 180 Avanti or piaggio I should say is owned by the Ferrari family. The P180 is an awesome little turboprop but as all things Italian it is really pricey. Its four hour range would let you cover the western united states but the plane itself would cost you 6.2 million!

BJ Penn on Current
There is a great pod on Current Network about BJ Penn and the sport of mixed martial arts. It was actually a great piece that focused on the fact that mma fighters weren't mere meatheads who liked to hit each other.

Sports in Los Angeles
With the Lakers trying to get past Phoenix so they can face their crosstown rival Clippers, and not looking so great at it last night might I add, I found out there was a new and to me somewhat surprising pro sports team! The Riptide of Major League Lacrosse will be playing out of CSU Dominguez Hills though not in the Home Depot Center but rather in the Track and Field Stadium. I for one love Lacrosse as it is a mix of a variety of sports with 1) Football/Hockey hits 2) Soccer like field control and 3) Basketball like pivot play.

In other LA news the governator was out trying to get not one but two NFL teams from the league, one expansion and another that would move here. Must be using that great negotiators tactic and asking high so he can nickle down to less! Meanwhile the only LA football team the Avengers have had a pretty rough year and with only 3 weeks remaining in the Arena Football League and a 3-11 record they are pretty much playing for pride alone.

The Galaxy are trying to repeat as MLS champs and are sitting in third place in the Western Conference standings. Hope to get out and see one of their games this season. I love the Home Depot Center and the environment it provides for soccer. Our other LA team Chivas USA seems to have improved over last year and picked up one of my favorite players Ante Razov.

Lack of Activity
Now I know I have been slacking on the old posting as of late but isnce we have two local teams in the NBA playoffs and since it looks like if the Lakers can get by Phoenix tonight its going to be all Staples all the time in the next round as they will face the Clippers in the true battle for Los Angeles. I may have to break out the double Mickey one finger salute shirt for this series if it happens.

Also I have been busy training Jiu Jitsu in an effort to drop weight and get in shape. We'll see how that works out.
