UFC news and etc.
Damn I just realized that I never posted about UFC 52. Im not aure how in the heck that happened but damn it was an awesome show. There were a couple of great title fights and plenty of good strong matches. The results were:
Mike Van Arsdale def. John Marsh by Decision
Joe Doerksen def. Patrick Cote by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) 3rd rd.
Ivan Salaverry def. Joe Riggs by Submission (Triangle Choke) 1st rd.
Georges St.Pierre def. Jason Miller by Decision
Matt Lindland def. Travis Lutter by Submission (Front Choke) 2nd rd.
Matt Hughes def Frank Trigg by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) 1st rd.
Renato Babalau Sobral def. Travis Wiuff by Submission (Armbar) 2nd rd.
Chuck Liddell def. Randy Couture by KO (Punch) 1st rd.
Obviously the two title fights were just awesome. Hughes proved he was a great champ once again after nearly dropping the fight when he was rung by Triggs after a low blow and then was put in a rear naked choke which he was able to finally survive and then turn the tables on him and finish him with his own rear naked choke. Then in a moment that many UFC fans have been waiting for Chuck was crowned light heavyweight champ after finishing Randy in quick fashion. It was great for Chuck who admitted he took Randy lightly in their first bout and obviously didn't this time out.
In other news rumors are already flying about UFC 53 where we know Andrei Arlovski will be facing Justin Eilers and Evan Tanner will be facing Rich Franklin for belts. Rumored fights are Tim Sylvia versus Sergei Kharitonov or Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira which would be awesome though I dont think the very dangerous Sylvia would fare well with either of them. Also Sam Hoger would face Stephan Bonnar in another Ultimate Fighter matchup, Hoger is going to make a career out of being the guy everyone wants to see get his ass kicked by the other Ultimate Fight members. Nick Diaz and Pete Sell also apparently have fights on the card.

New Halo 2 Maps
Well the first two of the halo 2 maps have been released for free and the second two are available for purchase now. I downloaded Conatainment and Warlock and while they are definitely different from any previous mapsd they have an oddly familiar feel. For those who have played a lot of halo containment is much like sidewinder in it is humongous and you could definitely get a great big group game going there. It has lots of open space with some nooks and crannies to hide in. Warlock on the other habd is definitely a small map. basically you are in a single room and while it is much darker and earier it feels a lot like Derelict from the original. I like both maps but really a map is a map is a map. Nice to have a change of scenery.

Moving Sucks
Well I like everyone else in the world officially hate moving. I reallly like my new apartment though we never really finished fixing it up. Hopefully it wont take long to get everything done. Got the gas turned on today and the DirecTV moved, cant live without a hot shower and television you know. Tomorrow they move my cable, for Internet, hope that goes well. Planning on signing up for Vonage phone service and try the old voice over ip finally.

What a day
I've been on call this week and it has been hell but today was the topper. Came in at 6:00 to do the backup and found out our connection to corporate was down so I ran the backup while waiting for corporate to work out the network issues. Boot up my laptop and the damn thing wont run. The system process pings the processor at 100% and nothing else can run. Cant seem to find any new fangled fancy virus outbreak and there is no problems otherwise. My partner in crime was saying there was a fix for 2000 that had this kind of problem and was wondering if it was a microsoft fix gone awry so I will have to check that. Damn if it is I am going to hurt me some ms staffer who came up with this. Anyway looks like another wonderful day in my future. Oh well Saturdays are overrated anyways.

Fun Stuff - A way to waste a day
Well I took a half day at work because I had to pick up my older daughter Joanna and figured I would have a chance to goof off after I picked her up and before I had to help my Dad install blinds. Well just my luck her boat didnt show up til after 4:00 and my dad got here as soon as I walked through door. Oh well best laid plans often fall to the wayside.

Pope Benedict XVI
I have been reflecting on the selection of Joseph Razinger as the new pope all day since hearing of his election this morning. Razinger is actuall a very logical choice. Ater all he was the right hand man of Pope John Paul II who was very conservative thelogically making the transition a smooth one. Also he is older, 78 meaning that his reign will not likely be a long one. Basically he is a transition Pope. He probably will emulate much of what John Paul II did and providing a bridgeway to the next Pope who will probably be younger and more of a dranatic shift. I know there were many liberals in the church who had hoped for a liberal pope who would embrace women priests and homosexuality but come on now folks the Pope is still Catholic and while I dont always agree with the dogma it is still Catholic. Razinger if anything is the antithesis to a liberal pope. He has been labeled as very consrvative, he speaks 10 languages, and has a desire to be known for his peacemaking i.e. JP2 and the last Pope Benedict. Good luck Pope Benedict XVI I expect that you are the rock the catholic church has been placed on to protect itself in this awkward transition from John Paul II.

Arena Football
I was thinking with the recent death of Al Lucas the football player who passed away this week after neck injuries suffered during a game for the LA Avengers of the Arena Football League. All of the guys who play arena ball really do it perhaps for a shot at the big time but also because they love the game. I mean take Al as an example. He played Division 1AA football in college for Troy State where he was a standout defensive tackle and all american. From there he went on to play at Carolina for the panthers of the NFL for two years and rather than take an assignment in Germany decided to join the arena league. He was an instant success in the league which requires most players to play both ways and even some special teams. There are some offensive and defensive specialists but not many on a squad. The guys get paid very little for playing a pro sport and heck it has been gaining popularity like crazy, anybody remember hockey? The sport is an example of whats right in pro sports today. Its part minor league baseball with a dash of hockey and football excitement. I hope the sport keeps growing and doing well as it has now grown to 17 teams and four divisions with two conferences.

The Ultimate Fighter - Finale
Wow the televised portion was great, too bad we didnt get a chance to see the undercard. So anyways I'll start with what everyone saw on Spike tonight. No real surprises. Diego came out and used his size advantage to dominate Kenny Florian to take the middleweight tough enough title. Don't be surprised to see Kenny in the UFC at Welterweight or even Lightweight. Diego is going to do well, hell he already was KOTC champ so the man has some real competitive fight history and Im pretty sure would have stepped up had the not been an Ultimate fighter. In the Light Heavyweight final Forrest and Stephan really went all out. I couldnt have called that fight and really felt bad for Stephan when Forrest got the Unanimous decision but UFC did right and gave him a contract as well, who would want to lose either of these guys. In the main event Rich "Jim Carey's Twin" Franklin was able to finish off Ken Shamrock in the first round by Ref stoppage. Now dont get me worng I expected Ken to lose but really it was a slip and I swear He loked to be in the best shape of his life. Rich looked like Rich usually does. Now for the stuff that Iwas pissed they didnt show.
1 Alex Karalexis stopped Josh Rafferty by TKO (Strikes) in 1:40 of the 1st round
2 Mike Swick stopped Alex Schoenauer by KO (Punch) in 0:20 of the 1st round
3 Nathan Quarry stopped Lodune Sincaid by TKO (Strikes) in 3:17 of the 1st round
4 Josh Koscheck stopped Chris Sanford by KO (Punch) in 4:21 of the 1st round
5 Chris Leben stopped Jason Thacker by TKO (Strikes) in 1:35 of the 1st round
6 Sam Hoger beat Bobby Southworth by Decision (Unanimous) in 5:00 of the 3rd round.
Sounds like there were some great fights and all the guys who won except Sam I thought were likely to get contracts anyways or at least one fight deals to prove themselves. Now that Nate and Chris are training with Randy I expect even better things from them.

Work and Crap
Well work seems to be turning the corner for me. Things seem to be going better or at least they are keeping me busy enough to keep myself goind during the day. Got a project too so that will be fun though I imagine its going to be a pretty easy one those are the type that often surprise you. Weve been dishing out treo 600's to the ops team and myself...he he he... the CEO had a sudden awakening today realizing I was the only one who didnt have C. starting their title who got one as well..... Not a big deal she just thought it was funny the way they were spoiling me. My fantasy basketball season is almost done, my team did crappy, so crappy that I'm in the consolation playoffs fighting for 11th place in a twelve team league, crappy.
Tomorrow is the Ultimate fighter finale and Im really looking forward to that. Its gonna be MMA galore this week with this finale and then UFC pay per view next week. Should be awesome.

Life is draining
Damn it seems as though I have had all of my energy sucked out of me lately. Probably the change in the weather, everyone dying lately, Not having a lot to do at work, shit in general. I am trying to eat better so as to lose weight so I wont have to hear that its exhausting because Im a fatass but hey I've been a fatass for a while and it never seemed to wear me down before. Im working on an exercise routine as well. I decided this year I want to work on improving myself spiritually and physically. I have all the tools to improve myself spiritually though I haven't honestly made good work of them and physically I havent been doing much better. Its interesting how I never seem to have time for anything and yet when I do have time all I want to do is kickback. Maybe my sense of responsibility is starting to weigh on me, dont laugh mom. Periodically I feel like I need a clean start to get myself going. Im not sure what it is that I need to change but I feel a desperate need to find it. Maybe as a Libra Im out of sync because I'm out of balance.

Mitsibushi Pocket Projector
I was reading Laptop magazine and they had a brief on the Mitsibushi Pocket Projector which is about the size of a harback book, projects a 20 inch screen from a foot away and a 40 inch screen from a yard away, uses LED instead of an expensive bulb which will last for 20,000 hours, and the best news markets for 700.00 which means ding ding ding we have a winner. Im already planning out how I am going to pay for this and my niro sound system. One thing I will never stop trying to get my home entertainment center together. As of right now I'm thinking it will be DirecTV DVR with Tivo, Xbox for games and movies, Niro for sound, and Pocket projector to Put it on the wall. I already have the xbox and direcTV so I just need to get the Niro and pocket projector and I'm set. While it is only 800 x 600 resolution it should be enough to keep me entertained.

The Ultimate Fighter
Well its the last week for the Ultimate Fighter and in a change of pace they had two fights to decide the Light Heavyweight semi-final. Forrest was able to stop Sam to earn his spot in the final and Stephen was able to polich off Mike Swick to earn his spot. Not a big surprise there as both these guys have had a couple fights and had done well so far. Now for the fun stuff. The UFC released the final card which has most of the 16 fighters on it. So it will be Diego Sanchez vs. Kenny Florian in the Middleweight final and Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar in the Light Heavyweight final and Ken Shamrock vs. Rich Franklin in what should be an interesting Light Heavyweight matchup. The Non-televised preliminary bouts are Josh Koscheck vs. Chris Sanford, Chris Leben vs. Jason Thacker, Lodune Sincaid vs. Nate Quarry, Alex Karalexis vs. Josh Rafferty, Sam Hoger vs. Bobby Southworth, and Mike Swick vs. Alex Schoenauer. As any regular knows if theres a knockout or stoppage we will probably get to see some of those undercard matches.

Niro Home Theater
I have been posessed with the desire to have a great home theatre but dont have the big bucks to set one up. Nor do I really like the idea of having to wire the speakers. I have always been infatuated with the Bose 321 System but at $1000.00 it was a lil more than I could afford. Then I cam upon the Niro 400 which provides theater quality sound with a speaker you place over the television and a subwoofer. I really think this might be the solution for my home speaker system. When I set up my entertainment center I plan on having my Directv with Tivo, Xbox, and Niro completing the package. Im hoping in the next year to buy a low end projector to complete the package but as we know Im good at dreaming.

Fantasy Basketball
Well my season came to an abrupt end much like the Lakers Playoffs chances this year. I had a rough week with the ijuries and ended up losing 3-2 to a team I probably would have beat in a normal week but thats what makes fantasy ball interesting. I have three of the 5 Laker's bobbleheads this year and this Wednesday Luke Walton comes out and next week is Kobe. Im not worried so much about getting Luke but I figure I ought to get to Carls quick in case there is a bum rush for Kobe. I keep both sets on my desk at work which is cool because last year they were in the yellow uniforms and this they are in the purple uniforms. Not much going on getting ready to move downstairs soon and I am looking forward to the change. It will be nice to not have to climb stairs all the time.

Gotta watch the old themper
Well I have to admit that the pope slowly passing is having a greater effect on me than I imagined. I dont really care that the feminazis arent happy with mainly because he doesn't believe in birth control, or same sex marriage, or female priests but hey folks most of that is what defines a Catholic be it right or wrong. Personally I think women would probably make better rpriests than men but there is also a common unwritten law that religions need to replace and multiply members and having good child rearing women unable to have kids would go against most religions, then again they have nuns so scratch that argument who knows why they wont let women be priests. As with most things it is marked off as tradition dating back to the disciples. Anyways before my A.D.D. kicked I was talking about getting pissed off at work. Anyways we were talking about JP2 and how he was dying and a guy in the department piped up about why he should give a shit. Now first strike Im Catholic. Second he knew I was Catholic, and third the man is dying show a little respect. Theres more strikes against the guy but I dont want to drag it on nor do I want him claiming I am defaming him so I'll let it be. So I turned and first off argued for all of the presidentsd we provide the same kind of attention and if as to keep religion out of the discussion I argued that he was beeing afforded the same attention any prominent leader would be given. His response was that he hadnt elected him nor any of the presidents and I told hime since he didnt vote he shouldnt bitch. Then I collected myself and mentioned the many great peaceful accords he was able to reach with countries keeping then from going to war. Not to mention the fact that he had taken up for many of the people whose human rights had been violated and he spoke up for third world countries where poverty was rampant, and sparked the end of communism in many historians version of history. Besides the fact that he was a great leader of the Cathholic Church Pope John Paul II was a great world leader bridgin the gaps among religions and trying to ease differences among everyone. I think the guy was a great human being who went out of his way to make the world a better palce. Hate to see him go but he deserves to be in heaven they guy has worked endlessly! Heres to you Karol Joseph Wojtyla you are a top notch guy in my book!
