The Icon fights which were webcast on Proelite.com were awesome. All of the fights were pretty well matched and it was an entertaining night. The 185 pound division is pretty stacked on the island. Robbie Lawler won back his 185 pound belt taking out Frank Trigg in decisive fashion in the 4th round. Jasn Miller returned for the first time since losing his belt to Trigg and he won in short order as did Charuto Verissimo also of UFC fame. Po'ai looked very tough at 205 as did Jeremy Williams. The undercard was surprisingly good and while the webcast wasnt the best production quality it was great especially when you consider it was free. Great night of foghts all together and hope they do it again. On a side note how did Icon get the vest ring girls in the world. Man naybe I ma just partial to Hawaiin girls but boy id they have some knockouts running thew round cards. Click more for my comments while the fights went on.

New phone and headset?
jawbone_silver (5k image)

I have been playing around with my Sony Ericcson W810i and while its a nice phone full of features I really am not happy with the call quality. Still haven't made up my mind yet but I am thinking of getting a Blackberry Pearl. My coworker has one and I really like the feel and features of the Pearl. On the headset front I am thinking of ditching my Motorola H700 for the new Jawbone which is just $20 more. The Jawbone is a millitary grade noise canceling bletooth headset which seems awesome.

UFC announces Pride purchase....
Well they finally made it official that the Fertita Brothers have purchased Pride making possible some of the great matchups that the MMA community has been dreaming about for ages. Im not really sure what Pride will be like with UFC rules, and weightclasses though apparently they will be keeping the ring. Also got to wonder how fans will like the fact that the often viewed mismatches that turned out to be great fights are gone. Pride will be Pride but it wont be. You wont see 185 pounders taking on heavyweights anymore. Sure its great that the fighters will be accesible now but how far will Prode sink. The Japanese fans tend to thrive on the mismatch style fight which I am sure the Fertitas wont be putting on based on Dana Whites comments. Its interesting I am both excited and depressed at the possibilities.

Wow what kind of trouble are they trying to get me into?
bluetooth_watch (50k image)

Anyone who knows me knows that I have an affinity for gadgets and recently I bought the Sony Ericsson W810i phone through Cingular. Its a pretty solid phone but I was checking on the accessories because I need a case for the damn thing before I break it into tiny pieces. Anyways while I was browsing I came across the gadget guys dream. Its a watch with a bluetooth module so you can control the phone and its various tools by remote control.

From the website:

Sony Ericsson and Fossil have teamed up to create the MBW-100 Bluetooth Watch Silver. The timepiece incorporates perfected Bluetooth technology from Sony Ericsson and watch technology and design from Fossil. The MBW-100 allows users to control calls and music from the watch. When a call comes in, the watch vibrates and a discreet glance at your watch will reveal the name and/or number of the person calling on the OLED watch face. By pressing a button you can easily mute or reject the call. When it comes to music control, the MBW-100 sports the ability to play, pause and skip to the next track on phone's music player directly from the watch. Some additional features: Bluetooth 2.0, Stainless steel, mineral crystal and antiglare coating.

Tiajuana Tilly's and Los Amantes de Lola
Had a blast this weekend. Went with my friend sown to Tiajuana to see his cousin, also a friend I guess, play a show at Tiajuana Tilly's. It took us three hours to drive down there so we got there at 9:00 our time 8:00 in TJ which would have put us there an hour before the show which we then found out didn't start til 11:00. We hung out with the guys from the band ate dinner and hung out while they got ready for the show. We left to go back to the Club at 11:00 and they started playong at 11:40 and they played until like 3:00. Basically the band was doing a tribute to Caifanes a band very significant in the history of Mexican/Latin rock. The name didnt ring a bell with me though I did recognise some of the songs they were performing. The show was great and the club was great as well. Turns out even the bands name Los Amantes de Lola was a historical band in Mexico as well and one the guys Gasu was an original member, and very cool to hang out with as well. The band normally played with one of the original members of Caifanes. He wasnt there this weekend though because of an emergency. Well after doing some research on Caifanes I found out that two of the members Saul Hernandez and Alfonso André formed Jaguares one of the more popular rock bands in Mexico. It was an interesting way to spend a friday night and I got to learn what a life being in a rock band must be like looks like fun but also dangerous at the same time.

March Madness Los Angeles Style
Well we are sort of used to having a team in the sweet 16 but this year we have two schools there. UCLA as expected ran through their first two opponents Weber St. and Indiana to the regional semi finals where they will take on Pittsburgh. More surprising to me was USC who took out Arkansas and Texas to make it to their regional semi finals where they will face North Carolina. I wont be surprised to see UCLA get by Pitt but I'd be lying if I thought SC would get by UNC but stranger things have happened and they have been playong some excellent ball lately. The Pac 10 has proven pretty durable with 3 schools in the sweet 16 as Oregon will play nest week as well.

Got me a new phone this weekend
sony-ericsson-w810-combo (36k image)

Well my wife wanted to send a phone to her sister in Guatemala sp being the saintly guy that I am I volunteered to ugrade my phone for the cause. While I was going to wait for the iPhone the cost scares me more and more as I think about it. The 800i is a good solid phone and actually I thin I will be more pleased with it in the long run. It has tons of features including mp3 music player, fm radio, 2mp camera, Memory Stick Pro Duo expansion up to 2gb. Not much more I could ask for though they gave me a rather small 256 mb card with it I plan on picking up a larger one soon. Honestly it does everything it promises pretty solidly.

XM and Sirius joining forces?
I wonder if this has anything to do with the sudden push of HD radio by the terrestrial radio stations who give their channels for free but apparently sirius and xm are merging.

Andrew Skurka
I was checking out the Go-Lite.com when I fell upon Andrew Skurka's Website. He is a through hiker and he is the only person to do a sea to sea route from the Atlantic to the Pacific. He also did the Pacific Coast Trail to get in shape. His site is set up nicely as he has pictures of his trips that make you feel like you were there.

The Jesus Family Tomb
Wow talk about a thought provoking book and concept. I have heard all day about people who watched the documentary or refused to based on their beliefs or lack there of. I personally wouldn't be surprised if they found a tomb with Jesus and his family's remains. I have always imagined that Jesus was more of a great teacher much like Muhammed than a true God. Science has been poiting in that direction for a long time and honedtly while I dont believe in the dramatics proclaimed in the DaVinci Code I wouldn't be surprised if this was true. I was fascinated to hear the frustration of diehard Christians who said it was just another attempt to disprove Jesus. In actuality anyone should have doubted the bible after some study. Look for the meat if the teachings like the beattitudes and realize the rest was mostly drawn up to consolidate the followers into ine big herd several thousand years ago.

2008 Scion xB Part 2
Well it looks like it is going to be a very expensive summer at least on my wishlist. Not only is the iPhone coming ou in June but the new xB is scheduled to come out in May. The new xB is really enticing to me. Sure its not going to as economical but it certainly has some nice changes coming down the line including a longer wider body and a more powerful engine. Scion has the NextGen Website up and it has plenty of eye candy. Below is the video announcement at the Chicago auto show.

UFC 68
Well once again Randy Couture never fails to amaze us as he took out Big Tim Silvia in a stunning 5 round performance. Coutures victory reminded me a lot of when he took out Chuck Liddell in their first meeting and though I was surprised that was how I figured it would turn out when it came to betting on the fight. Next up for Randy appears to be Mirko Cro Cop which is going to be a formidable task for anyone. In other fights Rich franklin finished Jason MacDonald who couldnt even make it for the third round after the beating he took in the 2nd round. Matt Hughes took out Chris Lytle in a rather one sided third round decision and in a shocker Jason Lambert took out Renato Sobral in a second round knockout. I watched an interview with Dana White after the fights and though exhausted he looked extatic about the results. He knocked on Prides decision to put Wanderlei Silva against Dan Henderson and blow what might have been the greatest fight in some time if he faced Chuck Liddell. He also ribbed their treatment of Sakuraba essentially saying they put him against competition that was too big and that was the demise of the great ones career. I agree with him on both points though I probably wouldnt have dropped as many f bombs making the point.
