Kawasaki Ninja 250R
ninja250R (19k image)

I know I must not seem the type but in my younger days I owned a couple of motorcycles and deep down really enjoy them. Problem is they can be rather expansive as a second vehicle and aren't the most responsible means of transportation for a father of two and husband. But sure under the right circumstances I would love to have a scoot to ride when the weather was right. They are great for skirting around Los Angeles traffic and very economical. Enter the ninja 250R. Now mind you there have been 250's forever but the problem to me was they always looked like a 250 something my shallow self esteem could never hurdle. The Ninja 250 looks like a bigger bike. Stand it next to the 600 and unless your an expert you probably wouldn't see a difference. At $3499 the ninja is a solid second vehicle that wont break anyones bank and isnt embarassing to be seen on either. Its small stature and seat height make it all the better for me and 333 pounds its light weight make it easier for me throw it around.

Hey if you have an extra three bills you can buy a truly exotic custom that actually makes the iphone even better. Basically theres two types of coatings in gold and black pictured below. Here are the notes from the web site:

Aluminum, known for its high strength-to-weight ratio makes an exceptional material for mobile devices. The fun starts when a 15 micron thickness is transformed through anodizing into aluminum oxide AKA sapphire; known to be second only to diamond in its hardness and durability. Nanometer sized sapphire crystals protect the underlying aluminum from the outside world. Treated to achieve a deep matt-black finish, this housing accentually ties the rear of the device together.

Stainless steel was commissioned for the more ostentatious front bezel and rear logo. Utilized for demanding applications such as knife edges and fine time pieces, stainless steel is an impressive material. But this wasn't enough. The iPhone Custom is the first smart phone in the world treated with Titanium Nitride / Titanium Aluminum Nitride. Creating the hardest surface treatment ever.

Not only is this the best functional coating available, it is one of the most visually exquisite surfaces ever created by man. TiN exudes a deep rich gold luster that pops against the enigmatic back housing. TiAlN on the other hand has a deep metallic black radiance that gives this blacked-out device its understated elegance.

Waterboarding
One of the things I like best about Current besides the fact that you can see any pod on their website now is the fact that they have total freedom to cover any issue. When it came time to take a hard look at waterboarding by having himself waterboarded. Kaj Larsen is an award-winning journalist for Current TV. He is a former US Navy SEAL, and an executive board member of the Center for Citizen Leadership, a non-profit dedicated to mentoring wounded veterans into Public Service. He holds a Masters degree in Public Policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Honeycut
I have been turned on to a few artists on Current and so far I have really liked them all from Matisyahu, to Silversun Pickups, and now Honeycut The bands style has been described as future funk and reminds me of a kind of Beck funkiness with a Radiohead falsetto. You might have heard their song Exodus Honey on the Apple iMac Commercial. Its a good listen check it out...

A good life lesson!
A group of graduates, well established in their careers, were talking at a reunion and decided to go visit their old university professor, now retired. During their visit, the Conversation turned to complaints about stress in their work and lives. Offering His guests hot chocolate, the professor went into the kitchen and returned with a large pot of hot chocolate and an assortment of cups - porcelain, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the hot chocolate. When they all had a cup of hot chocolate in hand, the professor said: "Notice that all the nice looking, expensive cups were taken, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves -- that is the source of your problems and stress. The cup that you' re drinking from adds nothing to the quality of the hot chocolate. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was hot chocolate, not the cup; but you consciously went for the! best cups... And then you began eyeing each other's cups. Now consider this: Life is the hot chocolate; your job, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life. The cup you have does not define, nor change the quality of life you have. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the hot chocolate God has provided us. God makes the hot chocolate, man chooses the cups. The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything that they have.

Another 4 minute exercise
Hey I know what you all must be thinking that I am always looking for the easy way out but after seeing the benefits of the ROM machine but growing weary of driving to Pasadena I am looking for another good way to get a solid workout in a short amount of time and I think I might have found it. Really it is more of a technique than anything else called the Tabata method anmed after the Japanese researcher who introduced it to the world. Basically its four miutes of as many reps you can do for 20 seconds and thena ten second break. The author reccomended two exercises for the tabata method; the front squat and the thruster. I'll take the thruster for simplicity sake. It is basically a squat and you rise up yopu press the weights up over your head. I hear it is quite an impressive workout and would provide a good full range of muscle work. The author says it will save you the time amd money of a ROM machine. Check out the article here!

Mio C230
mio-digiwalker-c230 (56k image)

I got a Mio 230 yesterday and have to admit I like it. Its a pure and simple GPS. Mio took their C220 gps and basically improved all of the problem areas. The biggest improvement is the text to speech do it reads you the street names so instead of turn left in 100 yards it says turn left on main st in 100 yards.

I know the GPS willl come in handy for me especially with softball coming up and having to find those well hidden fields.

iPhone 16GB
Well I guess they decided to keep this under wraps to avoid another pr fiasco but Apple just bumped up the capacity of the iPhone now offering a 16gb model for $499.00 I wonder if this is the 16gb model that I have been hearing rumors about. I will be more excited about the SDK as I am looking forward to more apps and right now I have plenty of space on my iPhone.

Jack Johnson- Sleep through the Static
Well I have been digesting Sleep through the Static for a day and a half now and no big surprise here but I like it. The question is how much? At first listen I figured it was a strong album but I wasn't thrilled as I was with In between Dreams or so I thought. Basically my preference of Jack's Albums goes in the order he released them and In Between Dreams was my favorite. But now that I have listened a bit this album is growing on me. At first I thought it was going to be a brushfire Fairytales level album but now that I've gone through it a couple of times I would say its a close second to In Between Dreams. Jack is still the man and as long as you like his music and style you wont be disappointed. My favorite tracks are (3) Hope (5) Enemy (6) If I Had Eyes and (10) Go On. Jacks also made some serious updates to his website JackJohnsonMusic.com including he announced a new social network called AllAtOnce.org for people who want to make a difference in the world.

Gasol makes all of the Lakers better!
I know I might be a little strange but I was absolutely thrilled with last nights win over the Nets. Sure Kobe had a rough night with a dislocated finger and only put up six but for the new look Lakers, No Problem. Kobe took over as a more point guard role and fed Gasol and Fish all night as they solidly beat the Nets on Gasols 24 and Fischers 28? The thong that is most interesting is the Suns decide to better matchup with the Lakers they are going to get Shaq? Sure Shaq is still a presence and mind you they want him for D but he has hardly been able to play this year and they are giving up Marion in the process who for some reason they have been desperate to trade. Now Shaq on Bynum and Amare on Gasol makes for some interesting matchups...

Superbowl XLII
Well the icing on a big sports weekend for me was the Superbowl after the big UFC Saturday. Secretly I was pulling for the Patriots so I wouldn't have to hear about the 72 Dolphins again but one cant help but root for the underdogs. The Giants played a defensive masterpiece and kept the best team in football now in check for 4 quarters and put up points when it counted to get the win. One has to wonder if the Pats didnt figure it was a forgone conclusion before the game started that they had already won. Where does an 18-1 team that couldn't win the Superbowl rank in History? Behind all of the Superbowl winners of which the Giants are the 42nd.

SQ Sumo Hybrid Iron Set
sqsumoiron-hybridset (14k image)

I am thinking that this might be my newest addition to my clubs. This set includes a 4,5,6,7 hybrid 8,9,PW, AW irons. Its a good set for the distance challenged like myself and after playing a couple of the Nike sq hybrids for a while I was very impressed with how well I can hit them.

UFC 81
Last night was a great night of fights. Frank Mir vrs. Brock Lesnar was a barn burner. Even though he lost Lesnar looks legit. He was overpowering and dominating Mir before he got caught in the kneebar that finished it. I would have liked to have seen Lesnars cardio but that definitely wasn't part of Mir's gameplan. In the other co main event Big Nog looked like he was in big trouble several times before he was able to catch Tim Sylvia in the third with a Guillotine choke. I feel sorry fo Tim since he was able to implement his game plan for two and a half rounds and then got caught. It was great to see Nog back on top of the heap again. His performance was strong so I'm hoping Randy might come back to consolidate the belts. The night started with Marvin Eastman taking on Terry Martin which was actually a stand up chess match where most of the fight took place in the clinch. Eastman ended up taking the unanimous decision in what wasn't the most exciting match because they counteracted each other well but Eastman did look strong while Terry Martin didnt seem to do much. Tim Boetsch was a monster in his stoppage victory over David Heath. Boetsch who took the fight on short notice didnt seem to be bothered at all. He pushed the pace of the fight before getting the TKO stoppage. Chris Lytle looked great as he ran through Kyle Bradley stopping him by TKO in a little under a minute. In the first live fight of the night Tyson Griffin took a unanimous decision over a very tough Gleison Tibau who fights for American Top Team. Griffin did what he always does and just pushed a really strong pace which Tibau seemed to be keeping up with for most of the fight but in the end it was clear Griffin was the better fighter. Ricardo Almeida made his toried return to the Octagon submitting Rob Yundt with a guillotine choke in little over a minute, looking like he never missed a step during his long layoff. Nathan Marquardt and Jeremy Horn put on a great fight with plenty of back and forth action before Marquardt was able to catch Horn in a guillotine choke in the second round. The choke itself looked a little awkward to me as Nate was in a standing position when he cinched it in. In the first of the co main events Frank Mir submitted Brock Lesnar with a knee bar in the first round which sounds rather one sided but rather it was pretty much all Lesnar up until Mir in a sort of desperation move got the knee bar. Lesnar had powered out of two arm bars already and had Mir hurt when he got caught. I am really looking forward to see what he can do in the future as I think as he gains experience he is going to be something special. Another interesting note was that they panned to several professional wrestlers in the crowd including the Undertaker, Kurt Angle, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. I am not sure about Stone Cold but Taker and Angle are definitely big fans of MMA and Angle was even rumored to be negotiating with the UFC before he signed with TNA. In the main event Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira defeated Tim Sylvia by guillotine choke in the third round but prior to that exchange it had been all Tim as he used his length and power to damage Nog. He did so well that I thought he had won the fight after he knowcked Nog down and fell on him only to have Nog get in a good defensive position to recover from. All in all it was a great night of fights.

Take that Boston
paukobe (27k image)

Well just when I was feeling pretty depressed about the state of Lakers affairs things have taken a hug upswing. The Lakers traded Kwame Brame and Javaris Crittenton and two first round picks (08, 10) to Memphis for Pau Gasol. This is great because when everyone is health they will have Bynum at center, Gasol at PF, Odom at SF, Kobe at SG and Fisher at PG. Now that is finally sounding like a lineup that could go deep in the playoffs. and maybe even have our old Boston / Los Angeles rivalry renewed.
