Brand New By Tomorrow by Money Mark
Weel I picked up another album from one of Jack Johnson's buddies. I have pretty much come to the conclusion that none of these guys from Brushfire records will put out a bad album and they are definitely good for some laid back relaxing vibes. I was disappointed by this album at all. It has a sort of Beattles vibe to it and its really good. I suggest if your a fan of Jack's and like the mellow style of music you check thi9s album out as well.

Treo 650
One of the advantages of being the cellphone administrator is you get to sample a wide variety of phones. Over the course of the past couple of years I have used a Treo 600, Motorola Q, Treo 700w, and now Im sporting a Treo 650. I have to admit when it comes to smart phones I like having a touch screen which has eliminated the Q despite two attempts at it. Honestly the 600 was my favorite until my current phone. The 700 was nice but it seemed flakier and now that I have the 650 it is basically everything the 600 was with improvements.

I dont like Crackdown!
I'll be honest to begin with. I only bought Crackdown because I could get the Halo 3 beta that way. Guess what though there is a reason they attached the beta to this game. Frankly its not that good!

Pride 33
Well I was definitely more impressed with Pride's second show compared to the first. I really like the fact that Pride makes a point of showing all the fights, one after another, unlike the UFC which seems to have start times for their matches so there are long lulls in between the fights. The fights were great and tonight was definitely a night of upsets. Frank Trigg proved he has renewed his career by moving to 185 as he has beat Kazuo Misaki the 185 lb. "welterweight" Grand Prix winner. Another surprise was Nick Diaz' win over Takanori Gomi by gogoplata. Gomi really didnt seem himself as he gassed midway through the first round and fell into the submission in the second. But I was most impressed with Dan Henderson's win over Wanderlei Silva by KO in the third round. One has to wonder what Silva will do now that he has lost his belt. I doubt Pride will push a Henderson Liddell fight because it seems it would be tailor made for the Iceman to win. I heard that Pride USA president suggested a $40 million dollar tournament the other night when the UFC announced their UK card with the number 1 & 2 from each weight class facing off against each other. Maybe Dana would take him up on that?

Update

Just saw a video on Sherdog.com with Wanderlei where he was very gracious in his loss. He said he was disappointed but made no excuses for the loss despite having had strep throat and running a fever the night before. It makes me respect the man that much more. He also said that his teammate "Ninja" Rua deserves a shot at the title before he does as he won the Middleweight Grand Prix and hadn't gotten a shot at the belt because he was Wanderlei's teammate. I was impressed with his sincerity and concern for others...

OQO Model 02
oqo_02 (24k image)

OQO just seems to be getting better at jamming lots of stuff into a lil package. Not only is the new machine more poweerful than its predecessor they have bumped all the specs and added EVDO networking built in. I also like that they have put an optical drive in the bottom of the new dock and as has always been the case its going to cost you a pretty penny.

Ash Wednesday
Well just lik every year I start off Lent with hopes of spiritual change and improving myself as a person as well as a Catholic. This year not only have I focused on my own personal health issues that I would like to improve but also trying to reduce my impact on the world, which you can blame squarely on equal parts my Yosemite trip and Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth". Hope everyone takes this time of reflection to look at what we do to others not just directly but through the way we treat the planet as well.

Serato Scratch Live
Imnot a dj but my buddy at work is and he was telling me about this program he uses that looks awesome. Actually its a program, a box and two vinyl blanks that complete the system. Basically you use the scratch live to scratch music straight off your computer and from what he says it gives you the control as if you were scratching on the actual album. Check it out at Scratchlive website. If you click on the forums link it will kick you over to some demo videos of the product.

Los Angeles to go Wireless!
Talk about a surprise. I was faxing a document at work and spotted the newspaper on the counter where the article at the front of the section there was an article that Mayor Villagarosa was rolling out WiFi citywide. This article from Muniwireless.com details the actual announcement by the mayor as does this article from the LA Times. This would be great for all Angelenos if it comes to fruition and it is actually more likely than in the surrounding cities where So Cal Edision has said it wont share its light poles for establishment of WiFi networks. LA is unique in that the Department of Water and power owns all its light poles which are vital to the building of WiFi networks. Maybe I can get me one of those fancy wireless voip phones now and have it make sense!

Bodog Fight
I was listening to the Beatdown this morning and found out that Bodog Fight which is going to have Matt Lindland facing off against Fedor Emelianenko in the main event will be shown on local channel 30 from 5:00 to 8:00pm Saturday. Im curious to see there product and its the second semi-free event in a week. I say semi because the Elite XC card was on SHowtime which is a subscription channel.

Edit Just realized that its not the Fedor versus Lindland card its the card they had back on December 2nd so its really old news but since I didnt get to see the ppv so I will probably tape it and watch it when I get a shot. Definitely not as cool as watching Fedor vrs. Lindland.

Elite XC
Well the first show for Elite XC on Showtime was not exactly what evryone probab;y expected but it was a strong show and a smooth production. Obviously the main event was strange as Frank Shamrock was dq'd for illegally kneeing Renzo Gracie in the back of the head. Shamrock didnt exactly handle the DQ well but I'm sure it must have been disappointing as he was taken down repeatedly. I suspect he reached a point of frustration and decided he wanted out of the fight. Antonio Silva dominated Cabbage Correira knocking him out as was expected. Cabbage is a tough guy though and can take a lot of abuse so it was surprising to see him go down pretty easily. Joey Villasenor took a dominating unanimous decision over David Loiseau which was really a prelude to what would happen in the Shamrock versus Gracie Fight. In the first womens fight I have seen live on TV Gina Carano took a strong decision over a very tough Julie Kedzie. This may have been the best fight of the night though both fighters ground games lacked they fought their hearts out. In the opening fight of the night Charles "Crazy Horse" Bennett took out KJ Noons with a wild looping punch. All in all it was a well produced show and what turned out to be an entertaining card despite the disappointing end to the main event.

2008 Scion xB
2008_xb (31k image)

Eceryone knows I love my xB. Its an 04 and it has been the perfect all around car dor me the last few years. Its small on the outside, big on the inside, and economical to boot. Now I have to admit when I first saw the xB I wasnt a huge fan and it wasnt until I went to the dealer to look at a tC that I bought one. That said I am not sure of the coming design changes to the 2008 model.

According to Autoblog.com "First up is the new xB, which has grown in size thanks to leaving the platform it shared with the now defunct xA. Gone is the toaster-esque styling as well, replaced with a design that's still a box, though one with fender flares, a little more character in the front end and a thick C/D-pillar. It's also reported that the interior has been upgraded along with losing the not-loved center-mounted gauge pod. The xB will also share its powerplant with the tC now, which means a 2.4L four-cylinder generating 158 hp and 162 ft-lbs. of torque will be on tap to send power through a five-speed manual or four-seed automatic."

Sure its peppier than the old model with the tC rngine but that also means the gas mileage will probably take a dump as well. Honestly I wnt pass judgement til I have had a chance to see one up close this time...

HP iPAQ rx5915 Travel Companion
HP_iPAQ_rx5915_Travel_Companion (18k image)

You know as far as innovations go HP comes up with some pretty cool stuff but it just never seems to hit right as far as catching on goes. Take the Travel companion this is basically a windows pocket pc with wireless connectivity and a tom tom navigation system. Basicall it can do everything you would need on a trip like look at videos listen to music etc. While pricey at $550 it does combine at least two pricey products in the navigator and the windows mobile device. Its pretty cool but I doubt you will be seeeing one in my bag of tricks any time soon.

An Inconvenient Truth
Well I finally got a chance to watch Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth and I must say he left a huge impression on me. The website is fascinating as well. It has some interesting tools for helping to reduce our impact on the world.

Superbowl
While I was pulling for the Bears yesterday I wasnt disappointed that The Colts and Peyton Manning were finally able to win the big one. Its been a long time coming for Peyton. I imagined people were considering him much like they used to consider John Elway before he broke his Superbowl drout. But poor Peyton ahdnt even made the Superbowl before this year. Now lets see if they can run off a string of chamionships like Elway did.

UFC 67
Well the first half of my super sports weekend is now complete. I was disappointed that Luter didnt make weight but didnt matter as Silva was able to submit him. Rampage and Cro Cop both took their victories pretty cleanly. Tyson Griffin suffered his first loss in what I thought was fight of the night. The show was solid but honestly I walked away a little disappointed.

Splashpower - The next Bluetooth?
Splashpower looks like it might be the next Bluetooth as its a wireless battery charging protocal. Basicall if you have splashpower enable devices you just drop them on your recharging tray and they charge without a connection of any type. Basically it will work with any device that has a splashmodule. Devices are expected to be released sometime in 2007.

Sherdog Radio Network
Well the long awaited announcement came today for The Beatdown with TJ Desantis and Josh Gross plus they brought in their counterparts from the Savage Dog Show Greg Savage and Jeff Sherwood. The big announcement was that they would be going live the week of February 12th with four hours of live MMA Internet radio programming with the promise of more. Sherdog has been a defacto mma website for fans for years. Not only have they kept track of fight records, Maintained a solid news website edited by Josh Gross, and is home to the biggest MMA Forum, they have also now developed a pair of successful podcasts from which to jump into Internet Radio. Its one of my favorite sites and I could see it being the Yahoo or Google of MMA websites. I imagine one day that they could put together a great magazine as well. Looking forward to see how the live radio goes and imagine the live stuff is going to provide for some amusing moments. Check out the site at Sherdog
