Link: posted @ 08:22 AM PST [link] Thursday, January 8, 2009WEC to add Flyweight DivisionWell sometimes you hear something and wonder why didn't they think of that earlier.Now that the WEC gave up its middle (185 pounds) and light heavyweight divisions (205 pounds) they apparently found room to add a flyweight division (125 pounds). Now WEC has been a huge success since they were purchased by the Fertitas and their focus on the weight divisions the UFC hasn't makes them successful. By far their most successful divisions are the featherweight (145 pound) and bantamweight (135 pound). I wonder if the next reallignment wont be the UFC handing down the lightweights (155 pound) division to the WEC seeing as how Dana tried to scrap it once and it would make an even 4 divisions for each promotion? I doubt it though the lightweights have been extremely popular since being revived could you imagine the UFC without BJ Penn, Kenny Florian, Sean Sherk, etc... I've always kind of wanted one in the back of my head but could never justify the expense, I know what your thinking "Who kidnapped Don". Well I think I finally found my watch. What more could you ask for in a playoff game, two teams with a lot of recent history, a back and forth battle. decided in overtime. In other good local sports news the Dodgers were able to rework Andruw Jones' contrcat to pay him over more years which in thoery will be used to sign Manny but in any way puts an end to a chapter that didn't work out for either side. Andruw never was able to get things going in LA and had made it clear he didn't want to come back. Rumors are starting to fly that the Giants are interested in Manny as well, gotta wonder if Boras didnt start that one in answer to the Dodgers saying they were looking at Abreu and Dunn but things should get interesting soon. posted @ 08:23 AM PST [link] [Karma: 7 (+/-)] Saturday, January 3, 2009Chargers take on the Colts in Powder Blue! So the Chargers managed to squeek into the playoffs and drew a tough challenge in MVP Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts, but they seem to be trying everything to shift the football gods in their direction. They even went and pulled the powder blue uniforms from the auction house for them to wear today in hopes it will give them an added boost. Hey its the payoffs whatever works or helps right?
