CONCACAF Champion's League
Concacaf has announced that they have done away with the Club Champions Club and implemented a Champions League much like the one in Europe.

The new league will feature four teams from Mexico and the United States; three Caribbean sides; two clubs each from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama; and one team from Canada, Belize, and Nicaragua. Eight clubs (two Mexican, two USA, one each from Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador) will be seeded and earn a bye directly into the group stage of the competition, while the others will play in preliminary matches in August and September.

The preliminary round winners will join seeded teams in the group stage, where the top two teams in each of the four groups will advance to the knock out phase, which will consists of home-and-away legs. The quarterfinals will take place in February of 2009; the semifinals are in March; and the Finals are in April.

The winner of this new competition will serve as the region’s representative in the FIFA Club World Cup.

This puts more significance on the supporters shield in the MLS as the team that wins the regular season gets one of the automativ byes as does the team that wins the MLS cup.

Glassbooth.org
I found out about Glassbooth.org from the Current Network which I am watching a ridiculous amount of as I nurse this stupid cold. Glassbooth has you prioritize the issues and then has you put your stance either as strongly support, strongly oppose or somewhere in the middle. Based on you answers it tells you what candidate best fits you. Based on my answers I am most closely linked with Mike Gravel and Barack Obama. Just dont tell my pops he is a staunch republican who listens to that fat windbag who likes to pop oxies.

Stupid Cold
Well I got the grandaddy of colds and it has had me couped up for the better part of two days. I first started with a dry cough on Saturday and then Sunday I really started feeling lousy. Monday the cold was in full swing and today Im still pretty much home bound.

Xocai Omega
After working out the other day at the Quick Gym the other day I noticed they were selling Xocai Omega bars. They take the two top antioxidents in pure unprocessed dark chocolate and acai berries. Basically its a great way to eat something good for you that also tastes great.

The website says:

Xoçai™ (pronounced Sho-sái), is more than just an elegant product name... it consists of the first two letters of the Aztec word, "Xocolatl," (cho coh LA till) the Aztec word used for chocolate, and the last three letters of "Açai," a rich berry found in the Amazon Rain Forest.

Matt Costa
While I anxiously await the arrival of Jack Johnson's new album I was pleased to see Matt Costa had released a new album today. Costa plays for Johnson's Btushfire Records. I really like this new effort Unfamiliar Faces as he expands himself a little musically from his first album Songs We Sing. Not that Songs We Sing was bad by any measure it was a great album I just think Costa has made headway in the right direction with Unfamiliar Faces.

UFC 80
Well BJ Penn proved he was finally taking mma seriously now after taking out Joe Stevenson in dominating fashion. Why he was ranked higher on the lightweight rankings before has always amazed me as he is one of the few fighters at 155 who can claim victories over Jens Pulver, Matt Hughes, and Takanori Gomi. In the co headliner Fabricio Verdum used some newly found standup skill to finish a very gassed Gabriel Gonzaga in the second round. Verdum had been training with Chute Boxe for this fight and his standup was much improved. Marcus Davis continued his winning streak taking out Jess Liaudin witha solid punch that folded his opponent for the night. Davis has won 6 straight since returning to the UFC. Wilson Gouveia who was being dominated by the high pressure game of Jason Lambert pulled out a victory with a surprise knockout in the 2nd round. Jorge Rivera took out Kendall Grove with his dominant stand up never letting up on the pressure he put on Grove who looked overwhelmed the entire fight. In what was probably the fight of the night Paul Kelly took out Paul Taylor in what was a very exciting fight to watch. Kelly loojed like he was a little to experienced for Taylor but both had tons of heart,

Derek Hess
I was watching LA Ink last night and they had a gentleman there getting tattooed by the name of Derek Hess who was getting a tattoo of his Dad's artwork on his back. I was checking out his work today on his website and it is very cool. He even has a clothing line called Strhess which is also very cool.

Apple iPhone update
While I am sure many were excited to here Steve Jobs other announcements the iPhone uodate was the one that one my heart. One of the things that makes the iPhone great is that it is truly a mini computer so it can be customized in many ways. Well they have added the ability to customize our desktops and add webapps to the application screen, sms multiple recipients, and even find our location via cell tower triangulation. Well these options make the phone significantly better the desktop feature is awesome. Im running three screens now, the regular, a web apps screen, and a games screen. I like messing around with the locator button and it can narrow you down to a ten block radius in san pedro but is better in more densely populated areas with more cell towers. Im really looking forward to seeing what we get with the sdk being released next month.

Flipstart takes hug price cut
flipstart (20k image)

I saw this on Engadget this morning and have to admit this is awesone if it is just a price reastructuring. If it is a sign of the end of flipstart it is a little sad. Now you can pick up the quickstart without office for $699. The lil guy has a full Windows® operating system, communications, entertainment and flexible wireless connectivity in a convenient clamshell design. Basically a micro laptop with sprint wireless and bluetooth.

The Rom Machine Part 2
Well after reading so much about the ROM machine I wondered what was it like to do the workout. Unfortunately the only gym I could find around Los Angeles that had one was in Pasadena. So today I made the trek to Quick Gym. They gym is fairly small though not lacking in size. They have three machines to work out on. I was met by the owner who explained the process of working out setting up the machine for me and walking me through the motions. I did the upper body first and the training portion took a lot of my workout time. The motion is interesting because it is like a row going back, then a chest press but you press out all the way back to you feet so you work the whole upper body in one motion going against resistance and because of the pace it is also very aerobic. Because of the explosiveness of the motions it is a great workout that reauires you follow good form. The leg portion of the workout was more familiar as it was similar to a step machine but you could manage the range much more. Basically there was no stopping point til you hit the floor and for my short legs that meant dificulty getting back on the other step. All in all I was very impressed with the workout and Quick Gym. The set up was very efficient and I talked to three members and all had nothing but great things to say about the gym and the workout. I have to agree with them. I am strongly considering getting a membership and its 30 minutes out of my way no matter how you slice it. Hopefully I will find one closer but I think til then I'll be making the comute.

The Rom Machine
rom (27k image)

The ROM Machine guarantees a fast total body workout including cardio, resistance and flexibility in 4 minutes a day. Basically if you look at the machine it is like a romer in the front section (with the seat) and a stepper in the back. Each component makes up you 4 minutes. I found out about the machine on Yahoo when they were talking about the Ten Minute Gym in Florida where basically they have it set up where you do one workout take a two minute break and then do the other. They advertize that utilizing the latest in non-impact, short duration, high intensity exercise technology, the ROM offers an effective and complete exercise experience that requires less time than any other local gym. The ROM isn't cheap though selling $14,195.00 but if all it claims is true it might be worth it.

MOTORAZR 2™ V8 Luxury Edition
razr_luxo (15k image)
Hey its not like there are enough 18k gold accented phones out there right? For a mere $679.99 you get the special edition RAZR2 comes with a bonus black slate Motorola H680 headset with 18K gold accents and a patent leather carrying case. Now all joking aside I really like the razr 2 that I saw a friend of the family sporting and while I dont feel the need to pimp my cell phone maybe someone out there does!

Plantronics Voyager™ 520
voyager520 (64k image)

When it comes to Bluetooth headsets I have tried a ton of them and I think I have a new favorite. I just got the Plantronics Voyager 520 which is working surprisingly well for me. I've use some upper crusty headsets like the jawbone which broke, iphone headset washed it but none matched the features of the Voyager. First off Plantronics is one of the few manufacturers who see the value in being able to pair with two phones at the same time, something I use all the time with a personal and work cell phone. Its a comfortable design which hasn't caused any irritation despite its over and in the ear design. The sound quality has stood up pretty well as well. The only thing that bothers me is the design but hey its not so ugly I wont wear it!

BCS How about this
Hey I doubt we will see a playoff but I was thinking since 10 teams play in the BCS bowls now why not use the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, FedEx Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl, Allstate Sugar Bowl as quarter finals and play a semi finals and finals afterwards. Sure it wold push the season til Jan 15th but it would keep the structure of the bowls and give the people what they want a real championship.

Good Bye McCowans
Well a San Pedro ico was finally closed yeaterday much to my dismay. The last McCowans market in San Pedro which had recently been sold and was really redone before the owner decided it wasn't financially viable. This was one of three McCowans if my memory serves me well as this last one on 20th and Walker used to be joined by one on 1st and Bandini and another on 9th and Gaffey. Supposedly this one will be torn down and condos are going up.

I am fascinated by many things but one of my favs is prefab housing and in particular Rocio Romero's LV Series. It was while brosing around about Rocio that I came upon one of her custom prefab homes in Napa that does tour for people interested in prefab and is rented out. Its a beautiful house with a beautiful patio made with these amazing Shade Sails which are these amazing geometric shapes that provide shade for patios.

Krups Beertender
krups-beertender (55k image)

Well its about time. The whole mini tap craze that is pretty widespread elsewhere is finally coming to America. Found this on Engadget today; Krups and Heineken are coming together to give us the beertender which basically keeps 5 liters of beer fresh for up to 30 days and has an LCD to tell you temp and when you are running low. Who needs a coffeemaker anyways.

Sherdog Radio Network
I remember when Sherdo first came out with it's Beatdown podcast. The they added the Savage Dog show. Then they made the big jump to doing live Internet radio Monday Wedenesday Friday. Since then they have added the Jordan Breen show on Tuesday and Thursday and Steven Quadros on Tuesdays. It was a great thing to have so much MMA discussion. They have added to the network again on Sundays with Josh Gross doing Gross Point Blank and MMA Sunday School featuring Scott Holmes and Rodney Dean. All this alongside The Beatdown after the Bell shows they do after major events and the round tables they do before them and they have developed a pretty solid lineup of live radio.

Bowl Crap Series
Well once again the Big 10 proved it was so influential it managed to push a weak team into the National Championship game and led to slaughter. Now I dont want to completely knock the air out of a down Ohio State because they did man up and put USC on their schedule next year but am I the only one who thinks they tooka super light schedule into the championship game? Lets hurry up and get a playoff system in place. I have always believed they should do an eight team playoff but would be willing to compromise with a four team or plus one system. Heck the way it is now you could have a tough semi final games in the bowls on January 1st and play the championship on the 8th which is pretty much what they do now. I am tired of the Big 10 and Pac 10 bullying the situation. I could understand their allegiance to the Rose Bowl if there wasn't a BCS but honestly the top team from either conference has played in the BCS title game for several years back so the integrity of the game has already been compromised. Lets get on with it. Ohio State vrs Oklahoma and LSU versus Virginia Tech in the semis probably would have given us the same final nut hey they would have earned the shot.

My Trip to the Dealer
Well I was pleasantly surprised today when I had to go back to the dealer today and they had completely redone their service lounge. They had modernized it all and had even put in a 4 station internet surfing island to help pass the time which I obviously enjoy. Very modern looking and really a nice change. Might have to come in and get my car serviced here as I can actually stand the wait now.

Radiohead
I have to admit that I always liked what I heard of Radiohead on the radio but never bought any of their albums since they werent on itunes and I wasnt sure if I would like them since their musice seemed kind of mopey. Then "In Radio" came out and I figured no loss and downloaded it and I was hooked. It was a great album and all together it was mopey but traveled all over the emotional scale. So the other day I was surfing their website and saw they had a special to download all of their albums prior to In Rainbows for $70 and could resist. I am really enjoying their music and wonder if they hadn't ever done their funky release would I have ever been turned on to them. If you have an hour check out the vid from Current which is an hour of radiohead playing their new album and other sundries;
