Freeganism
I saw an article on {{link http:www.freegan.info Freeganism}} on yahoo today and while I would never make the cut it really does seem to be an interesting movement/concept. Basically its being homeless with a purpose. You squat in vacant buildings, dumpster dive for dinner, clothing, furniture, etc. and use eco friendly transportation.... Apparently the dumpster diving has gotten the most attention but the movement is mostly based on thwarting the economic driven society we live in today.

Toyota joins NASCAR
Well I have to admit that I thought this was a joke at first but apparently next year Toyota Camry's will be challenging in the Nextel and Bush series, they already have entries in the Craftsman series. Im sure theres some good old southern boys rolling over in their graves but it will really probably make NASCAR into a International phenomenen as the Japanese will become immediately infatuated.

Grand Slam of Mountaineering
I was reading about the Grand Slam of Mountaineering, which to coplete you have to climb the 14 peaks of over 8,000 meters in the Himalayas, reach the highest peaks in all seven continents as well as walk on foot to the South Pole and the North pole.

Apparently a Korean, Park Young-seok, recently completed the feat this past year when he reached the North Pole. Thats good now I wont have to try it!

Catholics support evolution? Not Intelligent Design
I found this interesting article on yahoo.

The Roman Catholic Church has restated its support for evolution with an article praising a U.S. court decision that rejects the "intelligent design" theory as non-scientific. The Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano said that teaching intelligent design -- which argues that life is so complex that it needed a supernatural creator -- alongside Darwin's theory of evolution would only cause confusion. "Intelligent design does not belong to science and there is no justification for the demand it be taught as a scientific theory alongside the Darwinian explanation," said the article in the Tuesday edition of the newspaper. Evolution represents "the interpretative key of the history of life on Earth" and the debate in the United States was "polluted by political positions," wrote Fiorenzo Facchini, a professor of evolutionary biology at Italy's Bologna University. Confusion about the Catholic view of evolution arose last year when both the newly elected Pope Benedict and his former student, Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn of Vienna, said humans were part of an intelligent project designed by God. Schoenborn later made it clear the Church accepted evolution as solid science but objected to the way some Darwinists concluded that it proved God did not exist and could "explain everything from the Big Bang to Beethoven's Ninth Symphony." The Church, which has never rejected evolution, teaches that God created the world and the natural laws by which life developed.

Condoleezza Rice vs. Hillary Clinton in 2008?
Apparently they are starting to hype the posibility of Condoleezza Rice facing off against Hilary Clinton in the 2008 Presidential election as a potential first woman president. Now personally I think a woman would make a far better president but could you imagine one of these two? Allthough there would definitely be some intersting cannon fodder dor having Bill as first Husband? And could you imagine what Gill would do in the whitehouse if he weren't there as president?

Ultimate Fight Night
I really wasn't overwhelmed with the show tonight but for a free show it was entertaining. The night started off with Chris Leben defeating Jorge Rivera in a brief but standup fight. The next fight of the show was Josh Burkman versus Dew Fickett and again ended up being fairly uneventful as Burkamn caught Fickett in a guillotine choke to wing by submission. Then came the big announcement that Matt Hughes would face Royce Gracie in May. Now I'm not sure that despite my excitement about this fight whether it will be a good matchup but ehy its two legends in my eyes and while I'm not sure that Royce will fare much better than the previous legends who returned it will be interesting. In the next match of the night Stephen Bonner returned in great form to defeat James Irvin by submission by Kimura. Next they flashed back to the Duane Ludwig matchup against Jonathan Goulet which took exactly 11 second for Ludwig to finish by TKO Strikes. In the finale which was not nearly as exciting as I thought Tim Sylvia defeated Assuerio Silva by unanimous decision to earn another shot at Andrei Arlovski and the heavyweight title.

El Cristo Negro de Esquipulas
Spent a really nice day learning about my wifes culture or at least a piece of it when we went to visit El Cristo Negro de Esquipulas. The black christ is an amazing site as it lloks to be made of stone but is really just of a dark wood. It is almost of as much significance to central americans as the virgin de guadalupe is to mexicans. The mass was different because they had a full central american band at santa cecilia parish and it was a very festive environment.

Holy Cow UFC Shocker Gracie vr.s Hughes
Wow Ultimate Fight Night had a huge shocker when they announced that Matt Hughes will be taking on Royce Gracie in May. Talk about a shocker? Really though Im not sure how this can benefit Royce though I respect him enough not to count him out Im not sure that this would make him any more popular. Its definitely going to be a great year with the old UFC.

Converting DVD's to Ipod Video format
Found a great piece of software that I will almost definitely pick up. Cucusoft iPod Video Converter + DVD to iPod Suite aloows you to just open the software plop in dvd and hit convert and it converts the movie into iPod format. It's really easy and runs about $40.00 Not to sure about size of the movies I converted 25 minutes of Lord of the rings and it ran about 158 mb so Im guessing the full movie would have been around 1 gig.

UFC Coming to California in April?
This would be awesome if it happened:

Sherdog.com has heard that the UFC plans on making its California debut Saturday, April 15 at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, which plays home to the NHL's Mighty Ducks.

The venue makes a perfect host for the presumed main event between Orange County, Calif.'s Tito Ortiz and popular light heavyweight Forrest Griffin.

State of the UFC
Well I was cruising around the UFC website to see what was coming up and damn I almost miss the good old days when a pay per view happened every three months.

On January 16th the UFC has another Ultimate Fight Night which is headlined by Tim Sylvia versus Assuerio Silva. I havent seen Silva before but looking him up on SHerdog hes definitely a tough character who should make things tough for Sylvia. In the other matchups Stephan Bonnar takes on James Irvin who is well known for his last appearance in the UFC when he brutally knocked out Terry Martin with a flying knee. Spencer Fisher is set to take on Aaron Riley. Drew Fickett takes on Josh Burkman in what should be a huge fight for Burkman as Fickett is a vrey dangerous fighter. I have to wonder if the UFC isnt throwing their TUF fighters to the wolves quicker after all of the public complaints about the show's fighters getting preferential treatment. Chris Leben will have a dangerous opponent in Jorge Rivera in what is sure to be a standup war. Alex Karalexis from TUF 1 will take on Jason Von Flue from TUF 2 in a welterweight matchup that I wonder why its happening but hey maybe they had a slot to fill. In what should be a war Jonathan Goulet takes on Duane Ludwig. In the final matchup Melvin Guillard takes on Josh Neer. This card has both strong and weak matches on the card but easily could ppv quality.

On February 4th in the next pay per view, UFC 57 we get Liddell vrs. Couture III, which the UFC is charging more for since it thinks it can. Frank Mir also returns to take on Marcio Cruz in what should be a pretty strong ground fight. Renato Sobral the up and coming light heavyweight returns to take on the very tough Mike Van Arsdale. Alessio Sakara takes on Elvis Sinosic in what I imagine the UFC looks as a buildup match for Sakara. In heavyweight action Brandon Vera takes Justin Eilers, Paul Buentello takes on Gilbert Aldana, and Jeff Monson takes on Brandon Lee Hinkle. In what should be a very interesting matchup for both Nick Diaz takes on Joe Riggs in what should definitely be a finesse versus power matchup. In the final match on the card Keith Jardine takes on Mike Whitehead in what will be a matchup of what many folks believe probably should have been the heavyweight final of TUF 2.

Now on to March 4th and UFC 58 and why I am so damn excited. There are only two fights on the card and they are both whoppers as Rich Franklin takes on David Loiseau in what should be a great middleweight title bout and George St Pierre takes on BJ Penn in welterweight action. Already I know Im buying this card. GSP versus BJ Penn ought to be a good candidate for fight of the year on paper at least. GSP arguably behind Ninja Rua in prode was fighter of the year and BJ is one of the top dogs at middleweight and the only guy to take out Matt Hughes in recent history. Franklin versus Loiseau ought to be a barn burner as well as both these guys love to slug it out.

I was cruising around gizmodo.com checking out the CES finds and came upon the DualCor cPC Handtop. The thing sounds pretty cool. It is basically a little bigger than a PSP has two processors one for windows xp tablet edition and one for windows mobile, 1 gig of ram, and a 40 gig hardrive. Its been nominated best of show for CES. According to this CNET Video it will cost 1500.00 and will be out in March.

Pascal's Wager
I was reading today on Pascal's Wager and I found it amazing. Basically Pascal said in his wager that it was easier to believe in god because if the christian belief was true you would avoid hell and if the atheist belief was you didn't lose anything in the process. I actually have used this wager as a basis for my religion when dealing with atheists.
