My field trip
group (40k image)

Damn with the problems with my site I forgot to post about my trip with the girls to the Science Center. My daughters had been harping on me to go on their field trips and just my bad luck they happened to fall on the same Monday. Unfortunately though it worked out because Joanna wasnt feeling well and stayed home from school. So it was off to the science center with Marianna and her class. I was more comfortable that way because I know Mariannas teacher. So we get to the Science center and essentially there are three adults and thirty kids. He gave me ten girls to deal with. My god what did I do to deserve this? Actually there girls were pretty well behaved and basically I just played shepherd all day making sure they stayed in a group. The exhibits are very interactive and lots of fun. Its a suggested donation kind of place so it doesn't make for an expensive day. Also there is a Imax theatre there so you can break up your day by seiing an Imax film. All in all it was a great day. I spoiled Marianna by letting her ride a bike on a cable and by doing the Mountain climb.

Mercenaries
I have been developing my addiction to Xbox with my recent purchase of Mercenaries. The game is really entertaining though the graphics are not nearly as good as they let on in the commercials for the game. Basically think Vice City on a global scale with better toys. Basically you're a mercenary in north korea chasing a deck of 52 bad guy north koreans who are part of a coup which took over the country and has control of the countries nuclear armament. There are four factions besides the north koreans which is the an, ie allies, south koreans, chinese, and russian mafia. You basically need to work with all the factions and against them all getting intel to get through the deck of 52. I havent gotten that far as I am barely almost done with the clubs and I am told the game gets harder as you get further through the suits. If you want there is plenty of side stuff to keep you entertained as well as the factions give you contract and you come across various challenges which are marked on maps with dollar signs. I also got Full Spectrum Warrior but I've been having so much fun with mercs I haven't played it yet.

Rent a wheel
I was listening to the radio today and heard a commercial for Rent a Wheel which basically rents to own wheels over a period of a year. This has been what I've been looking for. From the sounds of it it is exactly what lots of people have been looking for as they are working on 31 locations in California, Texas and Arizona. If you see me rolling wheels and tires on the XB you know their model worked.

Slipknot
I have been listening to the most recent slipknot cd and am I pleasantly surprised. Now I have nothing against a real hard playing band as slipknot has been known to be but its not what I prefer to listen to either. This album has a great mixture of speeds and style and I thought it was truly a breakout album for them. In fact I'm surprised we haven't heard more than Duality on the radio. Rick Rubins touch is apparent as this album is really awesome.

Back up at last
Probably no one noticed but I havent been able to post for the last week because wy host shut down the scripts on my server because one of MY scripts went haywire. I have to repair the website stats below because they were part of the scripts. Actually the problem appeared to be a bad entry according to my host. Other that this little setback I really have nothing but glowing thins to say about Plugsocket and they service they provide. I found them through a copromotion they run called Shade of Grey where they set up your greymatter website, host it and give back $20 to Noah Grey who wrote the software and gives it away freely! Noah is an awesome photographer so check out his site if you have time.

Lets talk about expectations - Trojans 05
Matt Leinart has surprised most of the world by doing what he said he probably would and come back next year to play football for USC. I admire the guy but wonder what he must be thinking. I mean to walk away from a huge paycheck and huge expectations to stay where he'll have almost impossible expectations and no paycheck seems insane to me. Leinart is walking into a season where he must have a perfect year or it will be a letdown. Sure he handled it this year but none have been able to do it before and after the debacle Jason White had one would wonder why put yourself through it. I have to admit I am tickled that Matt is coming back and hope it keeps the USC team in place for next year. When the Trojans hit the field in 2005, Leinart will be leading a team that returns 14 of 22
players who started in the Orange Bowl. That includes the Trojans' top two running backs, top two receivers and four-fifths of the offensive line. All of this says volumes about what Pete Carroll has done at the school that this man would take this kind of risk!

‘Ali G’ character causes near riot at rodeo
Now I have to admit that I enjoy Sasha Baron Cohen as Ali G as the nxt guy mostly because he loves to push the envelop, but the other day he pushed a lil to far. Apparently he went out in front of a rodeo crowd the other day.

LONDON - British comedian Sasha Baron Cohen escaped a near-riot at an American rodeo while filming his satirical “Da Ali G Show.”

<"e>According to a report in the Roanoke (Virginia) Times, a man who was introduced as Boraq Sagdiyev from Kazakhstan — in reality a Cohen character named Borat — appeared at the rodeo over the weekend after organizers agreed to have him sing the national anthem.

After telling the crowd he supported America’s war on terrorism, he said, “I hope you kill every man, woman and child in Iraq, down to the lizards ... And may George W. Bush drink the blood of every man, woman and child in Iraq.” He then sang a garbled version of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”<"e>

The Mafia Don and the Deaf Bookkeeper
A Mafia Godfather finds out that his bookkeeper has screwed him out of
ten million bucks. This bookkeeper is deaf. It was considered an
occupational benefit and why he got the job in the first place, since
it was assumed that a deaf bookkeeper would not be able to hear
anything if he'd ever have to testify in court.

When the Godfather goes to shakedown the bookkeeper about his missing
$10 million bucks, he brings along his attorney who knows sign language.
The Godfather asks the bookkeeper: "Where is the 10 million bucks you
embezzled from me?"

The attorney, using sign language, asks the bookkeeper where the 10
million dollars is hidden. The bookkeeper signs back: "I don't know what
you are talking about."

The attorney tells the Godfather: "He says he doesn't know
what you're talking about."

That's when the Godfather pulls out a 9 mm pistol, puts it to the
bookkeeper's temple, cocks it, and says: "Ask him again!"

The attorney signs to the underling: "He'll kill you for sure if you
don't tell him!" The bookkeeper signs back: "OK! You win!

The money is in a brown briefcase, buried behind the shed in my cousin
Enzo's backyard in Queens!"

The Godfather asks the attorney: "Well, what'd he say?" The attorney
replies:

"He says you don't have the balls to pull the trigger "

Apple's Ipod Shuffle
Apple's Ipod Shuffle is a pretty cool little device that combines ipod technology with a usb connection in really small form factor to provide a more reasonably priced alternative to the ipod. The shuffle comes in 512mb and 1 gb form factors priced at $99 and $149 respectively. I may have to finally break down and join the revolution. In another Macworld announcement Apple unveiled the Mac Mini basically a super small tower that sports two varieties Inside its petite 2-inch tall, 6.5-inch square anodized aluminum enclosure, Mac mini houses a 1.25 or 1.42GHz G4 processor, 40 or 80GB hard drive, a slot-loading CD-R/DVD-ROM optical drive, 256MB DDR SDRAM and ATI Radeon 9200 graphics chip with 32MB dedicated DDR SDRAM — all whisper-quiet.

Gizmondo
gizmondo (32k image)
Well theres anothe hot gaming device out there as rumors are circling that Gizmondo may be landing a Halo title in the near future. When I look at this device it reminds me of the Tapwave Zodiac which still seems to have some advantages with the builtin palm software for broader use. Gizmondo is getting great press on this rumor and is a pretty good multifunction device on the surface.

UFC 51
Well I am getting pumped up about the UFC event coming up in February. First we finally get to see Vitor vr.s Tito but much like when we got to see Gomi vr.s Pulver it would have been nice when they were on top of their game. I am actually more excited about Arlovski vr.s Silva though I dont like the fact that they are using it as an interim Championship til Mir comes back. The other bout that should be great is the Middleweight belt will finally be filled as Evan Tanner faces David Terrell for the belt. A win over Tanner would prove Terrell isnt a fluke, or that his victory over Linland wasn't. In the battle of the UFC favorites Robby Lawler faces Phil Baroni, my guess is that UFC pres Dana White didnt have the heart to get rid of either one so he had them face off against each other. Othe heavyweight bouts include Justin Eilers facing off agianst Paul Buentello and Mike Kyle, my least favorite fighter in UFC facing off against James Irvin. In another middleweight bout David Loiseau takes on Joe Riggs. Riggs has been pretty exciting in his bouts and I have a feeling that this is a survival match for Loiseau ie if he doesnt win he wont fight in the UFC anymore. In welterweight action Nick Diaz takes on newcomer Drew Fickett and Karo Parisyan takes on Chris Lytle. The card has some strong matchups even in the undercard bouts and should be interesting.

Pride Shockwave
Well as I was starting to think that mixed martial arts had peaked with the Pride FC Shockwave New Years Show I caught wind of the UFC 51 lineup. But first things first. Pride Shockwave was a great show. The claiber of matches was awesome. I was not surprised to see Fedor win the Grand Prix and heavyweight titles as he seems to have Nog's number. I was impressed with Vanderlei Silva in his loss to Mark Hunt as he really did take a tough opponent at the last minute and really fought his heart out. You would never see a light heavyweight take on a heavyweight in UFC. How Dan Henderson, and dont get me wrong I like Hollywood, got the nod over Kondo in their match was beyond me. Either of those guys would be the top 185 pounder if Pride had that weightclass. Jens Pulver was disappointing to me in his fight with Gomi as they chose to put on a boxing match and Jens was knocked out. Why neither of them chose to take the bout to the ground is beyond me. But hey guys if I wanted to watch boxing I would.... Rulan Gardner was impressive in his first MMA boust against Hidehiko Yoshida a pride veteran and former Olympic gold winner in Judo. Rulan doesnt seem to have that killer instinct but considering he is new to the sport he put on a good show. Cro Cop silenced all of his detractors by taking out Randleman in less than a minute with a choke, it'll be interesting to see if he gets a shot at fedor anytime soon. Really looking forward to Middleweight Grand Prix as they are hinting that Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell, and Tito Ortiz will all be part of the tournament. That would be awesome!

Orange Bowl Halftime Show
Wow I know the sound was bad but the halftime show for the Orange Bowl sure seemed to be about the worst thing I have seen on TV in quite some time. The best part of the show was the country and western singer Trace Adkins. Kelly Clarkson seemed to sing well but was shorted by poor sound as they tried to sort out problems with the mcs and then we had lovely Ashlee Simpson. Her new attempt at being punk, probably because her crappy voice wasnt going to last long in the pop world reminded me of a talentless farce. I mean this girl is so far form being punk I mean she even makes Avril seem legit. You would think that the superbowl of college football would put on a better show.

USC Football
Well they are champs again and really sent a message to the football press by beating Oklahoma 55-19. Who would have ever thought that especially since Oklahoma was returning to the title game. Now we'll just have to wait with baited breath and see if Matt comes back next year to go for the three peat. With 16 guys returning if indeed they do they will be certain to kick some ass and maybe repeat.

The US playing games again at the worst time
I found this article interesting and hadnt heard this perspective on the US aid for the tsunami victims in asia:

U.S. block on tsunami funds cynical and shameful
The peak of a massive disaster is no time to deliberately undermine the one body charged with coordinating a global response to such a crisis.

In its warped response to the Asian tsunami catastrophe, the United States is seeking not to support and foster the United Nations but to damage its political credibility and destroy its vital capacities in disaster management.

U.S. President George W. Bush and his secretary of state, Colin Powell, have decided to set up a regional coordination group distinct from the United Nations, involving India, Japan, Australia and the United States.

This will have its own assessment teams, funding channels and, one suspects, political priorities, given the United States’ position as a superpower that desperately needs to find new friends, especially among the area's Islamic populations.

But the move, which amounts to an effective block on funding for the United Nations, is a vindictive decision, designed to punish the world body and, by its exclusion, the EU, for their stance over Iraq. It will be both costly - just wait for the duplication and waste, especially when military forces get involved - and shortsighted.

Well Leslie has been pleasant as she only demonstrates her displeasure when shes hungry or ready for a change. What more can you ask of a week old, almost. Our apartment is coming along downstairs. Most of the rooms are painted, the plywood base for the kitchen floor is down, and I believe the next stage is to put in some kitchen cabinets. I'm really looking forward to moving into a downstairs apartment.

I chose XBOX4DD because it actually covers a variety of areas of interest and discussion. XB for the cars model. BOX because of the shape of the car. XBOX because I have, and its my favorite gaming system. 4DD because it's mine.
