Finance and other boring stuff.
As I become more involved, and educated, in financial services I realize how ignorant I have been about my finances. I sepnt this morning learning about Variable Annuities with the sales rep from Travelers this morning and it was an eye opening experience. Annuities, if you have the money to get into them are a great way to invest, especially with price and life protection to gurantee you dont lose. I am excited about being able to sale these products down the line as I get licensed, still have to get through my life insurance licensing and yet I'm thinking about getting securities licensed already. It should be an interesting year to see how far I can go in this.

Scion tC
scionTC1 (23k image)

I had the good fortune of checking out the Scion web site when I was amazed by the picture of the car you see above. Apparently I wasnt paying close attention when Scion announced the third car in its lineup. I have been thinking of buying a Scion for some time because they are cost efficient new cars with tons of custom features that I like. The problem was that neither the xA or xB really were what I wanted in a new car. The tC is exactly what I was looking for. I found a couple of good articles on the soon, June 2004, to be released car at ScionLife.com and at UrbanRacer.com. Both sites have pretty extensive write ups on the car far better than I could drum up for you. Check them out and see why I'm excited about the new edition to the family!

Cingular makes offer for AT&T Wireless
Cingular wireless made a bid for AT&T Wireless which if it goes through makes the largest cellular company in the Nation. Cant imagine that this would do anything but completely make Cingular and GSM in the US a force to be reckoned with. Not to mention this ought to be great for the coverage area of Cingular which has always been iffy at best.

Eric Mullens
Wow talk about being in a strange place emotionally. I just returned from a funeral. As you can probably guess it was Eric's funeral but it seemed so inappropriate. Eric was a huge guy who worked as an RT at Gardena with me for a few years. We sued to talk a lot in a casual guy and he could best be described as a gentle giant. He was always a very positive person and an awesome guy to work with. We would always stop and say Hi to each other in the hall and such. He was dating a work friend so I always got updates on him through her even after he left to work at another Hospital. He and his girlfriend seemed very much in love from the my vantage point and then after last hearing that he and his girlfriend were going to go to the Bahamas for a vacation I find out he took his own life last week. The ceremony was odd, probably because I am Catholic and it was in a Presbyterian church, but also it seemed to be without closure. I have so many questions as to why he would do such a thing but it would be so inappropriate to ask anyone.

I saw his girlfriend at the funeral today and she is obviously destroyed. Its such an odd situation as my experience with funerals prior to this have always provided me witha sense of closure. Now I am also bothered by the fact that I am so bothered. Eric was a wonderful guy in every sense but we were never close outside of work or anything like that. I imagine it was in the manner that he passed and the fact that he was cremated so he physically wasn't at the funeral that might be bothering me. The as I thought about it some more it dawned on me that maybe it was because I would have liked to have been his friend outside of work, but never was. Maybe it was because I would have liked for him to know that I admired him alot but he never will. Maybe its because of my religions viewpoint on suicide and I have a hard time imagining someone so good taking such a drastic act.

Eric, I dont understand why you did what you did, and probably no one knows but you, but I hope you are at peace finally. I'll miss you!

USC Defeats LSU in National Championship Playoff
EA Sports came up with the next best thing to an actual Division 1 playoff when they created a virtual game between LSU and USC on NCAAŽ Football 2004. Heres what they had to say:

Using a PlayStationŽ2, we had NCAA Football 2004 simulate the results of an LSU-USC matchup played at a neutral stadium. The computer-controlled game was a tight contest throughout, but thanks to a touchdown pass in the final two minutes, the Trojans of Southern California nipped Louisiana State 23-17 to win our simulated National Title Game.

New Stuff
Finally broke down and bought the network adapter for ps2. I had been wavering on whether to get it or not, but finally figured I had a couple of games now that were online so I would give it a shot. Gettign the card installed was a breeze. Snapped the Card in the back of my ps2, dropped in the cd let it install and then told it took look for my lan and it was done. Played fifa 2004 online and despite my crappy play enjoyed it. The game was a little less clear than normal. probably compressed graphics but play was smooth. There weren't a lot of fifa 2004 players online but I plan on trying Madden out tomorrow. The new Fifa 2004 is a strong improvement over 2003.

Crcodile Hunter
The crocodile hunter gave Jacko his greatest gift by taking the media attention away by feeding an alligator while holding his month old son in his arm. I dont know whose stupider The Croc Hunter for doing this crap or the people who are shocked that he would do it. I mean really we must know that this guy doesn't see anything wrong with playing with wild animals, why would he see something wrong with feeding them with his son in his hand?

My Aquarium at work
My Aquarium at work is a 60 gallon Clear for life acrylic aquarium with an unfinished stand. It is a freshwater setup with mostly cichlids and a few miscellaneous fish to boot. Most of the fish we keep are aggressive which adds to their entertainment value. I am transitioning to mostly cichlids, I started without any, due to their interesting coloration and aggressive tendencies. My wiser partner in crime wont let me throw and red devils in for fear of what they might do to the other fish. Guppy day is pretty entertaining in its own right as we buy a dollar of feederfish to watch them wolf down.

USC Trojans
Well the trojans put an exclamation point on the argument that there needs to be a playoff system for college football by spanking Michigan 28-14 in a game that was not as close as the score might indicate. Once again it appears that we will have a split championship which was supposed to be prevented by the BCS. Folks reality has to have setin by now we need at least a four team playoff structure. It could get interesting and have more teams but that would almost definitely damage the existing bowl system which would probably be the kiss of death for a playoff. Now Im not really that certain that USC is better than Oklahoma or LSU but I would have liked to have seen them go head up to determine whether they were.
